No side earns a home grand final.

and we wont stop sooking until its changed.

the irony is mcg clubs sook if they have to play an interstate team 10 mins up the road at docklands.
How funny would it be once this stadium is finally finished if you get a big Melbourne team at the cattery for a qualifying final only to get cleaned up by 10 goals? I might even buy a ticket so I can tell the grandkids “I was there!”

Yea I don't really give a s**t who you are, I care what Steve Hocking says, and he says he wants to play all finals at the MCG.
Was just being a bit silly, anyway I'll hold you to that quote "I care what Steve Hocking says".
I'm enjoying the sudden respect of Steve Hockings opinion from oppo supporters in this thread.

Finals have been played at the MCG for roughly 100 years. For 70 of those years, it was Melbourne’s home ground. Until the mids 60s, all clubs only played 1 H&A match there except for Melbourne who played 11. Then only 2 H&A games there after Richmond moved their home games from punt road In the mid 60s. It was never a problem them, why now?

Let’s take 1989 season and 1 of the best ever GFs as an example. Geelong home ground was Kardinia park. Geelong played 7 H&A games + 2 finals at the MCG prior to the GF. Hawthorn played only 1 game at the G for the whole season prior to the GF. Never heard any winging or complaining about that.

100000000% it should in Geelong.

Geelongs home ground is in Geelong, they play their home games, in Geelong. You finish top 2, you get to or should play the first final at your home ground.

It's Collingwoods home ground, **** the whole maximising crowds just for a dollar. Reward the club who finished top 2.

All I can say to this is thank **** you’re not running the AFL.

I wonder if this insistence by most Geelong supporters the their team just doesn't have the character to win finals without very significant on field advantages, subconsciously affects the psychology of the team.
Not sure but I find the request of a 4:30 QF a little bit odd. Definitely not an anywhere anytime team.

SHocking and the Geelong board has come out and confirmed they want finals at the MCG as they don’t want to lock out tens of thousands of their 71,000 members, particularly the 30,000 Melbourne based supporters.

Finally some sanity coming out of their own club courtesy of their footy boss and board no longer afraid to speak out over the coach.

So it looks like this debate has finally been put to bed by your own club.

Hallelujah!!

Yep, let's just get rid of GMHBA. We should all just play at the G every week. Problem solved. I'm fine with that.

if logistically that's possible, within the time constraints of a season with 18 clubs,... I'm all ears. Doesn't change the current options at hand, where choice is limited and/or financial incentive isn't a consideration.

Ofcourse its equal. 100 percent. Distance for fans and players to travel is exactly the same.
Ask yourself what makes up the advantage part of home advantage.

How many Carlton fans can get access to a ticket at CatPark? Hardly any.

How many Geelong fans can get access to a ticket at the G, shit loads.

Geelong have a huge crowd advantage at CatPark, that isnt the same at the G.
and your reasoning that Geelong has an advantsge cos it already plays 5-7 games at the mcg is utterly absurd.
Ground familiarity is a big part of the advantage.

Geelong are familiar with the G, so no disadvantage.

Carlton arent familiar with CatPark. A clear disadvantage
Those are all away games. If west coast lost 3 of their 11 home games at perth and was forced to play 3 of its home games at the mcg against melbourne teams you would now argue they have been given an advantage cos their 3 away games at the mcg now become like home games for them so they have 9 home games in perth and 6 home games at the mcg.
The eagles would then be much more familiar with the G.
It is the most insane argument ive heard in a long time.
If you actually go through what makes the advantage part of home ground advantage you would get it.

Ground familiarity
Crowd support

Two key factors.

You do realise that in VFL that home ground advantage was much stronger than it is in AFL?

Pies at VicPark v Carlton was a huge advantage, there was no travel or anything.

It was the Pies playing at the ground they train at. And having 35k Pies fans jammed in creating a crazy atmosphere.

Geelong have the best fixture in the game.

They retain a true home ground advantage.
Then have a glut of games at another ground that they are familiar with and fans can access easily.
Then only have the same travel trips.

Do you think it's fair that Geelong finish top 2 and win the right to play an away qualifying final?
It is a home state final, at a venue that they play "home" games at during H&A season.

If they were sent to Perth, sure would have something to complain about.

But it is a ground they play their own "home" games at during H&A.
