Hird today making comments that the ASADA ordeal broke him and Bomber, like thats when his drug problems started.

The deflector Ser James will use any opportunity to blame anyone except for himself. Well they will have a lot to talk about at their 1993 reunion. Most of it will reflect on everything, drugs, i.e. (Hird, Thompson, crap culture) but the Grand final.

Dean missed due to injury. His absence was a key reason a couple of the Dopers went all thug on some of our players. If Dean had played the weak pricks wouldn't have tried it on because he would have dealt with them quick smart.

Yeah, I remember Dean being touch and go. But for mine, you got a premiership up for grabs. Back your best players as these chances do not come often. At least one of Kouta or Dean should have been played. At least ahead of one of Athorn and Powell. An 85% Dean I would have backed having more impact on our teams chances of winning than a foot solider hack like Athorn.

GWS tonight on a Friday night game struggled just as much as we have without half a dozen better players. Sobering reality for whole league with 18 clubs spreading talent so far and wide, even the most talented list is going to see their team struggle more often than not when you got 6 of your most important players out. Dylan Buckley must have felt it just as tough working in GWS forward line as it was at times working in Carlton's in recent years. Was incredible they thought their forward line could function with no real tall down there for three quarters. When I looked at their team selection on paper it looked unbalanced down back with too many talls. Sound familiar ?
Why would you leave forward line without a tall and have Davis, Haynes, Tomlinson and Finlayson all in back line and pick Keefe in team that only went to GWS with understanding he was key defence back up and play him in ruck ?
Made no sense he and Patton sharing ruck. They would have been better going with Patton up forward or at least moving Tomlinson from backline to smaller sized ruck or in front half. Just nuts. Anyway, they got their right whack for stupid team selection.

I was listening very keenly on Friday afternoon to a caller who was talking about the problems the Essendon District League were having in recruiting juniors. This is argubly the strongest metropolitan league. The caller also commented on the poor standard of the games. This problem is not just isolated to the EDFL. The AFL with its arrogance is going to oversee the ruination of what was once a great game. The quality and skills of the game have deteriorated. Watching 18-30 players around the ball, scrimmage after scrimmage. This is not the game I and many true believers grew up with. Not surprisingly the crowds have dropped away markedly when compared to the proportion of the population. St.Kilda can barely get 20,000 to their games. Footy in Tasmania is in the worst shape it has been in for a long time. The AFL has spent millions in Western Sydney where Soccer and Rugby are the dominant sports. More importantly, GWS are a team that nobody wants or cares about. The should move them to Canberra where they will have a fan base, unlike the comical attendance figures the AFL produces each week which bare nothing to reality. Gold Coast is another white elephant that will take decades to get established and will cost tens of millions. Brisbane are another basket case. Aussie Rules is growing in Queensland and will take another 20 years, but the investment is huge, and the Victorian, SA & WA public is paying for it.

Meanwhile Aussie Rules in Victoria continues to wither on the vine. The AFL'S survival is predicated on the massive media deals. If the AFL continues to produce the rubbish they are currently presenting, the game is doomed. The current player agreement which expires in 2022 will see the average player earning $340K. They are not worth it.

The issue with mdma is that it can easily be laced, Ive had two mates lose to it. One died and one was in a coma for 3 years. So my personal view may be skewed slightly negatively towards it. It’s throw away the key stuff imo
Shit.

Sorry for your loss. Thats absolutely the worst thing that could happen. 3 years is a long time.

This could probably have been avoided if it was legal and controlled. Its the criminals who are trying to make a buck that 'lace' the shit. If you get it from your local chemist, that wouldn't be a problem.

Gil had a chance last year to make a statement last year when the young girl got her photo passed around with the medallion. What did we hear, crickets.

I hate the fact that the AFL chooses which social topics to talk about and educate the younger players. Either do it properly or leave it alone.

Let's not overdramatise what was said.

Gil had no need to say it, but it's probably what many may have thought.
Swan has found himself in 'awkward' situations on quite a few occasions now and even if he was the 'victim' he's clearly taken himself into situations without consideration for consequences.

Maybe Gil should have said, "Look before you leap". Is that any better?

Parkin was no mug and in those days players would play not fully fit. The fact he didn't pick either shows that he clearly thought they couldn't do what was required, unless you have info that differs.

He would have played Dean if he could, not sure how Kouta was going though.

Well...people do have affairs, or open marriages it’s a fact of life

Yeh Dane is silly, but he should be able to do what he wants (consensual) with out it being posted online

I think Gil didn’t need to say what he said, rumours been circulating about him how about that goes online ?

Not really, i don't think its any better. I don't really think im over dramatising, just airing my disappointment in Gil. What Swan has done in the past has no bearing on this situation, or any situation, judge each incident on its merits and react accordingly.

I still see it as victim blaming which is still unfortunately the go to response for many in these cases. If it was a women, Gill would have been dragged over the coals for saying that and rightly so.

The fact that it was a man and Swan should not detract from the severity of the issue and i hope Swan goes after a few who shared the video as people don't seem to have learnt what bullying is, sexual harassment is, consent is.

Nearly every person goes to bed with a camera no more than 1 foot away, im not sure how you can not find yourselves in these situations.

I know Swan has said the video is old and pre-relationship, is that now being questioned?

Moody, the game is the best shape its ever been in, just look at the crowds, AFLX, AFLW, memberships, revenue, $$$$$$$$$$$

As long as they are making a profit, the show will move forward slowly changing further away from what we loved.

How many times does Swan have to show his ****, before he comes about realising that it may not be such a great idea?
Three, four, how many?

Think about it; Is it just dumb luck that all these things seem to happen to Dane, or is it just dumb?
Of course I agree with the principal of what you're saying but comes a time, one has to either grow up or find new friends and if that's not for Dane, he may just find himself in another 'situation.' How unlucky would that be?

It’s up to him to show his ‘****’ online not someone else.
I’m not going to judge him on extra marital affairs, and I don’t think Gil should either

Yeh Dane should grow up but the worlds not perfect

Didn’t realise it’s pre relationship ... he can do what he likes in private imo

Too long ago to remember specifics but I do remember expecting Kouta and Dean to play that grand final Knew at least one was touch and go but my impression at time was surely we cannot play both of Powell and Athorn and expect to win a grand final. I believed that from first bounce at the ground. When Athorn was lining up on Long I had bad feeling we got it all so wrong that week. Worst fears did not take long to unfold.

Gil had no need to say what he did. It's not really a need for him to have to make a statement about an ex-player. No question.

As for victim-blaming?
It's not always simply a black and white situation. I'd have no right to be assaulted preaching anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-Black sentiments, but maybe it's just not a particularly good idea to do so.
Extreme maybe, but principal is the same; I see so many people walking across roads oblivious to their surrounds. They don't look for cars possibly running a light, or for motorbikes zipping between cars, they're just happy tapping their phones as if the world around them doesn't exist and when one of them ends up in hospital, they will be the victim no doubt, but unfortunately that won't help their injuries one iota; "Be aware of your surrounds and situations you enter into', isn't the worst message one can relate, is it?
