Pretty good match this, Jack Watts has turned into one of my favourite non St Kilda players :oops:

Dees will be favourites against us that's for sure, they are playing really good footy.
We'll have to engage our secret weapon....Etihad stadium!

How clever is Clarko?
Port will be so busy trying to prove how tough they are the Hawks will soak it up and play through it.
Clarko playing classic "Rope-a-Dope" and I reckon Port are silly enough to get sucked in.
This game will be fascinating.

Anybody notice our "hawthorn ump" is officiating tonight?
I'll be watching the free kick count with interest.

Actually, I think he umpired our game last week too, but I don't think we can blame him for that loss

wtf are teams continually kicking deep into their F50 when Hawks have two extra? They arent a regular team. They've worked out the next 2-3 plays WHILE scrapping for the ball in congestion D50, as the heat appears massive to the commentators and crowd and opposition players, it's child's play for the Hawks. Just because they appear mortal here and there, dish up spud play here and there, the averages and overall result of their team play has almost made a mockery of the sport.

the worst thing is, it's not deep to space or to the heavy player positioned side of the ground. A Hawks player won't just spoil anywhere (like most defenders), they'll put it to their advantage even if it looks 50/50 loose or unco, manipulate opposition player positioning, and off they go, with an entire half of a ground open.

Spot up the short option, or give your small players a ground ball with space, so extras can work around the 50 arc and hold the f@#()ing ball in.

Hawthorn are so much more organised than most that it has become embarrassing, and very evident that most players and a lot of coaches are pretenders.

But, but, Hawks pump it long..... yeah, but 3 players with an av footy IQ of 145, don't require much to toy with the 5 defenders with an av footy IQ of 102.

I think most teams would love to have Breust, Rioli & Poppy as their small forwards too.... A class above

Clarko is an absolute gun. Overhauled their game plan 3 times in 8 years for 4 flags, incredible. Even little things like the man on the mark block they were getting away with a couple of years ago, constantly innovating and thinking about the game. I think a sign of a great coach is when players seem to be of more value under their structure and systems then what they would be for another club. Take almost any player out of the Hawks and put them in another club and I reckon they wouldn't be as good.

They're the best pressuring side in the comp as well which would have something to do with it. Then when they win it back they slice you up by foot. Those are the reasons why they've been able to get away with being so bad at contested ball this year and only needing to break even the past few years.

That's something we should be looking to emulate given how bad our contested numbers are.

I think we play a similar type of pressure game but our ball movement is based on a more equal distribution of running and by foot wheras the Hawks rely more on kicking for their movement.

I am hoping this makes us more versatile in the future as outside of a couple of players all our guys are decent to excellent kicks.
