If it had all worked properly.

1)
Players/Club get busted.
2)
Players get penalised for a year. ( or less for copping it sweet ).
3)
Club gets stripped from draft picks as punishment.

Done - No problemo.

BUT the way it worked.
1)
Players/Club got busted.
2)
Club/Players ran for the lawyers and fought every inch of the way , while falsely proclaiming that they were co-operating.
3) Whole thing dragged out.
4) AFL got sick of waiting and investigated the club and penalized them by stripping their draft picks and premiership points.
5) Essendon WERE stipped of draft picks.

Now in an ideal world the stripping of draft picks would have coincided with the year the players were suspended but that obviously didn't happen.
But i have no issue with them now getting a draft pick, and yes it will probably be the first pick but big deal.

Its annoying that they found Merrett with their Crameri trade but if they'd had draft picks they might have grabbed Acres or Dunstan as well.
Or maybe they would have got Jake Lever the year later.

They've been punished. We really don't have a case to push to take more draft picks from them.

Bombers have been punished by the afl for bringing the game into disrepute they have not been punished by the afl for using ped's as far as I know.
I dont like that they get 12 blokes back next year plus the number 1 pick.

****ing baffling they have got 2 friday night games this year, they were utterly embarrassing last year probably worse then carlton

is it true that asada offered essendon month bans or something like that and hird wanted to prove their innocence? lmao
Yes. Essendon could have gone in early and done a Cronulla style deal. But Hird's ego was having none of that. He sacrificed the players for his own self reflection of Zeus. Like a Greek tragedy.

Excuse my ignorance, but what year were the Dons stripped of draft picks? I totally missed that.

Previous two years.. AFL wanted to take them out of the first two rounds of two drafts but Dons talked them into giving them a second rounder for the second year. I think thats the pick they used on Merret? :/

Will see a lot more of this from Essendon in the second half of the year I think

My gosh. The bulldogs are so well trained. They are under huge pressure against PA. But they are so good at team defence. So good at positioning. So good at winning the ball in close.
Any other team would be getting smashed. But their so disciplined with their helping out in defence. They do everything that we dont when they dont have the ball. Great team to watch.

And then they create 3 goals out of nothing and completely turn the match on its head.

They're also missing half of their starting defense.

They are an example of a team that have total buy in & know their roles. The similarities of a Ross Lyon coached team is eery.

Merret pick was for Crameri
