Looks like Geelong are in for a major list overhaul this offseason. Talk that Enright and Bartel are going to retire and that Mitch Clarke will get the ass, it seems like they're trying to ship Motlop off, talk that the OOC Kersten will seek a trade back to WA, because he's miffed that he didn't get games late in the year, Vardy is also OOC and expected to seek a fresh start elsewhere, as are the contracted Horlin-Smith and Smedts and they've just delisted 5 from their rookie list!

Could be a dozen or more list changes there and yet their first pick in the draft isn't until about no.35, as things stand right now.

With so little obviously quality youth coming through there to replace the likes of Enright and Bartel and so much meh on their list, it's hard to see them genuinely contending for a flag again any time soon. Especially if they have to make a dozen or so additions to their list and most of them come from pick 35ish onwards!

Having Danger and Selwood probably means they won't properly bottom-out though, so they may do a Richmond and stay around no-man's-land for the forseeable future.

Enright made the AA team, he shouldn't retire.
Reckon they finish 5-8th next year

Apparently he told them a few weeks back that he would definitely retire if they won the flag and apparently his very emotional response to their loss the other night has many close to him thinking it was a sign that it was his last game. He might see the writing on the wall that Geelong aren't going to win another one and that he might as well go out on top from a personal POV and help usher in the new era at the same time.

Max "tangles" walker has passed away.

A very under rated cricketer and a hell of an entertainer. Plus he was "like a baby's arm holding an apple"!

I remember watching him in tandem with Lillie and Thompson and holding his own. A huge talent in both cricket and footy.

RIP tangles

Think the rookie list needs a revamp right now. The AFL should use it, along with reduction in free agency as leverage for changes to the current "farce" around players nominating.

There shouldn't be a draft for starters. The current rookie list should be incorporated into the main list for 44 players.

A 6 player rookie list should then be created. It should be composed of:

- International Players (unlimited)
- GAA Players (maximum of one)
- Non-AFL athletes (unlimited)

of any age, and recruited as they currently are.

Then, for domestic players aged 18-23

Father Sons (unlimited), Academy Players (unlimited), Indigenous and non-traditional backround (unlimited) and regular players (maximum of 3)

Can be added to the rookie list after the main draft(s) have taken place, the latter two firstly from your zone, then after a penultimate list lodgement, anyones zone.

Same current rules for retention: outside the "Cat B" players, only 3 can be retained, 1 year deals, maximum of 3 years on the rookie list before promotion or delisting, traded players must be onto another teams primary list

This is an attempt to turn it back into what it originally was: a place for players who need time to develop before being ready for AFL selection.

Don't have one on me, but I'll have a look under the cushions of the couch, sometimes things slip under there from time to time. :thumbsu:

Didnt know about the " babys arm" but i did know he was also a very good footballer who was at Melbourne before switching to cricket.
Anybody on here well over 40 who says they havnt read one of his "how to Hypnotize chooks" series of books is lying :p

No need. The storm is coming to us. :)
We're getting it first. Seriously, my work has been closed for the rest of today and tomorrow because of an expectation of flooding - doors all sandbagged and everything.

I think the rookie list should also include an extra pick from your vfl team. I think the vfl players that the club is either aligned with should get sone extra incentive

Not for just stand alone teams but also aligned teams

Would still give the rich teams the advantage, because they can pay more to have the best non league prospects join their VFL sides. We'd get the dregs at that level. Not to mention WA sides stockpiling talent in their WAFL team.

Just thought I'd drop in to point something out about a possible new logo- I clicked on the membership page on the Saints website and i noticed up the top on the tab the symbol of our shield without the banner or ribbon across the bottom, just the shield. Not sure if it's a hint at a rebranding or just something insignificant but: sa.png
