Because they didn't already have enough area for those clubs. At least we got a women's team....oh hang on.

On the womens AFL my daughter is 13 and she's playing footy for the first time this year and is already barracking for the Dees women's team until the saints get one up. It's a pretty handy league for the AFL to push into other sports turf.

Only on TV, we were going to go but I got held up working and ran out of time. They turned people away so it was lucky we didn't.

Why were the Saints robbed of a spot in the women's league given that we won an award for the get behind Angelena publicity campaign or whatever it was called . And we aren't even going to be in it next year . That sucks because by the time they are allowed into it , if that happens, all the good players and going to be settled in the clubs they are at now. If you were a player who was going to wait for the saints team , how could you now there is uncertainty about when and if we will have a side . As usual it's the rich clubs like Carlton, Collingwood. And the others that get in first to get the chance to establish straight away . With the big campaign we ran I didn't see anything coming from Carlton but they still got in ahead of us , it's not a fair playing field.

Yeah I watched it , it was great . It was obvious that a few women were a bit nervous in the first quarter. But with a lock out crowd of 25000 no wonder they were nervous. It's going to be fun watching these games although I have read that the grand final will be played on round one of the men's competition which will be a shame if it gets overshadowed or they don't have a grown with the capacity for the grand final . It would have been nice if it is in Victoria to be at Etihad or MCG . Where ever it is held they will get a ripper crowd I would assume.

zones are stuffed

I don't get why some Victorian clubs have zone areas in there but not others . Also why do some of the interstate teams have academy's where they can get good players and put them in it so they have first dibs at them at the draft. Haven't teams like GWS already have received their weight in gold . Is this just going to keep going because the afl wants them to be successful. Well I want the Saints to be successful so can we have one too.

If you asked me last week, I would've said further expansion of the AFLW would be years away, purely because the depth of talent isn't quite there. I was worried 8 was stretching it far too thin. But I'm now more hopeful that our team isn't too far away.

Geelong would be the first in line you'd think considering they've got a female VFL side up and running, but hopefully we're not too far behind. The longer clubs go without one, the more likely they are to lose young female supporters to teams that do have one (namely the 2 rich ones).

Granted the skill level of a majority isn't quite there (remember they're amateurs who have been training in a semi professional environment for 8 weeks), but it doesn't need to be just yet. It was entertaining because it was old fashioned, tough, unpredictable football. Early days yet, but you can definitely see it has a place if it's allowed to grow. It would also benefit with some slight modifications to better suit the athletic profiles of women.

I am so happy that I stumbled across this site . I've enjoyed the chat even though I have put my foot in my mouth a few times but hey that's life. Apart from some stirring I haven't been abused when I've said something stupid and I have received a lot of help in advice on how to set up my SuperCoach team considering I have been in another guys SuperCoach comp and come near the bottom for the last four years. I just want to be a bit more competitive and a few people have come forward to explain their ideas and given me advice . And not just saying pick a b c and d but explaining the thought process behind it. Thank you to everyone here for help and just for being nice even when I have stuffed up.

I hope the women's league kills off the pre season comp. Let teams have intraclub and scratch matches with their state league affiliates. Then go into round 1 with no form guide
