How could you make this AFL - and miss out Jeffy's 9 in 2000?
Was queens birthday weekend but not played on a Monday. That started in 2001
It was on a Monday. The AFL didn't make it official until 01. We did however play Collingwood on QB monday in 2000, 1999 and 1993, but those aren't counted as official QB clashes for some reason (All wins to us too)

It's weird, we did play the Mondays but the AFL for some reason doesn't count them as cannon haha in official QB clashes

My shameful secret is that I absolutely love the QB clash. I don't even care if pies supporters and other tools sneer about it being Melbourne fans' Grand Final. So what? It's the closest thing to it for a fair time now. I generally set out to drink too many beers in the members and last year I even fell down the stairs but didn't spill a drop of sauce from my pie. Everyone was very nice. A man who was about 110 offered me his seat to 'recover' and a massive security bloke improvised a sort of concussion test. The kindness of strangers always gets me. I was very emotional until I fell asleep 5 minutes into the last and didn't stir until people stepped on me trying to get out.

I ****ing love QB.

I was at that game. It was on a Saturday.

I was about to correct you, but then I checked and yes, it was on a Saturday.

Even though everyone loves this fixture being played on a Monday, it used to suck when I was at school as the day isn't a public holiday in Perth. Think the first time I managed to see it on TV was in 2005. In 2004 I had an exam on at exactly the same time as the match...

Nowadays I switch my work hours to fit the game into my calendar so basically never miss it. Exception being 2013, and with good reason.

Not only is today massive but the next two weeks playing the dogs and eagles who both sit above us on the ladder.

Also just to prove we have improved, we've been so competitive in all our games our biggest loss 29-30 points to Geelong. Look at the saints there last 3 games have been big losses. Freo really struggling without Sandi, WCE lose their key forward and drop a game to Gold Coast.

As frustrating as this year has been and probably will continue to be our development without having Gawn/Spencer and Hogan could really help our side come 2018 (not that I am
Writing this year off at all)

Today was great, but is anyone nervous that we could have a horror mid-season show?

R13/14 Dogs and Eagles away will be really tough.
R15 Sydney are still a grand final team that we haven't beaten since 2010 and we'd be playing them coming off a 6 day break in Perth
R16 Carlton we always seem to play horribly against and we have a terrible record v them
R17 Crows in Darwin is a really tough ask as they for mine are the best team (even though we beat them), and then in R18 we play Port at the MCG off a 6.5 day break
R19 We've lost 16 in a row to the Kangas
R20 Giants will be near full strength by the time we get around to them
R21 Saints will be keen for revenge having learned their lessons and they spread well which on the 'G suits them

Really the only match I'd put my house on would be Lions at the MCG in Round 22, and R23 I'd be quietly confident we could beat the Pies more convincingly than today with Gawn and Hogan back.

No games these days are a gimme.

I suspect we'll sit at around 10 wins. Finish about 9th on percentage. We just don't look good enough in the fundamentals to challenge, and need to score 100+ to be any chance of winning games as we bleed so many

I'm as negative as anyone on here... but just enjoy the win mate

I'm personally taking the lid and throwing it into Port Phillip Bay if we win next week.
I honestly think we'll towel them. We play Etihad well, Doggies out of form, return of Max giving us the epic wrinkle when we've been matching it in the clearance game anyway, side is full of run. Biggest thing is the 6-day break but coming off the bye I'm not as concerned about this week as the two after.

The MFCSS on this board is alarming at times. "Saints will be keen for revenge having learned their lessons"? If anything we played them in their best form of the year, they've looked pathetic since. The Bulldogs limped to a win v Richmond and have lost all their other games to top 8 sides. We've already beaten Carlton and Adelaide and if we can't back ourselves to back those up then we might as well just throw the towel in.

I think the Swans are peaking and Buddy will likely decimate us, but I like our chances in every other game for the rest of the year. We ran West Coast down to 6 points in Perth last year and we've improved more than they have since. And Port are terrible despite what everyone seems to think. 6 day breaks are among the most overrated concepts in the league. Most of our losses this year have been coming off 7 or 8 day breaks, and we've won half our games off 6 day breaks.

I'm not saying we're going to win any of these games, but we're clearly ahead of the competition and we're going to get two of our top three or four best players back in the next fortnight. If we don't make finals I'll be seriously disappointed, and I have a nasty feeling that it could only happen because of two losses by less than a goal to a couple of eventual bottom 4 teams (Fremantle and Hawthorn)

Each round is full of upsets and the ladder is very tight. With Gawn and Hogan eventually coming into the side we are a chance in all our games. Really like our chances the next 2 weeks.

Hogan coming back in v west coast will be huge. Unfortunately J Kennedy will also be back then

Lmao that's full mFCSS up there.

Saints will learn their lesson against us, we'll then by that logic we will beat north because we learnt our lesson.

We are in 6th on the ladder now. I was pretty annoyed at the team early but how any Melbourne supporter can complain when we are in the top 6 I'd beyond me haha

Cannot underestimate the return of Gawn and not only what he brings as a player but the lift it will give to a midfield that has had to scrap for every clearance since his injury.
It will come at the right time and just to have a tall target to kick to coming out of defence also will be huge.
I fancy us against the Dogs if he comes in next week but they'll be smarting after a poor showing and a bit of media attention this week a bit like what happened the week we played Hawthorn.
I'd be open to us playing Spencer this week and giving Gawn the extra week of training as I don't think the Dogs hurt you in the ruck atm.

This is this week's biggest question. Will be interesting to see which way we go.

Yep, and we have been in every game this year no matter who we've played. It's going to be really interesting to see how much better we are with Gawn and Hogan in the team.

Also can someone please tell me what MFCSS stands for? I must have missed the memo on that one.

Melbourne Football Club Supporter Syndrome. The sense of despair they create in their fans.
