I love the still business like attitude with Gawny. Not content with breaking the drought and destroying the curse he wants to do it b2b in front of a raucous and heaving G.

To be fair what do you expect him to say lol

'Yeah wouldn't mind just making finals next year'
Oh I like that he’s saying it.

Every premier since 2000 has finished top 4 the following year except Port, Hawthorn (2008), Bulldogs and WCE (2018) who finished 8th, 9th, 10th and 5th. All you can really ask for after a flag is that they back it up with a top 4 finish and give themselves a chance in September. After this year hopefully fans stop shitting themselves about potentially playing away finals when we concede late goals to <insert misc bottom team> and give up 1.5% or whatever etc bc the players will either get it done or not but the venue isn’t going to make a difference. Only loss away the whole season was to Adelaide. Won in every state/territory except Queensland and NT. Compare that with Richmond in 2018, who lost four games all away.

I wonder if would have been the first team to play and/or win in every state and territory. We came ****ing close. Ironically we lost to Collingwood in Sydney but we’d previously beaten the far superior Brisbane there which meant we didn’t get to play in the NT. And then the GC game, our biggest win for the year, was relocated from Queensland to Melbourne.

Dare say that if we’d won the first Adelaide game we might have been the first side to win three games in WA, SA and Vic in a year too.

Ya forgot one thing Wiggum... Tigers didn't make the finals in 2021...

I want home finals because I want to go next year.

Yeah that’s a good point. It would be hilariously tragic and tragically hilarious if after earning home finals this year we couldn’t go to them, and then if we are able to go next year and somehow have away QFs/EFs/SFs/PFs with no restrictions in Victoria. I’m so grateful for 2018. Would have been a somewhat more bitter pill to swallow not being able to go to the finals this year if we hadn’t been able to go in 2018 and got two huge finals against big Victorian sides.

Come on footy gods, give me another minor premiership and a QF against Essendon, prelim v Richmond and another GF against the Dogs all at the MCG in 2022

All these images of the players casually holding the cup under their arm while hungover make me anxious as hell. I know if I was given the cup to hold I'd probably fumble it and drop it onto the ground creating a massive unfixable dent.

On a personal note, I went to school in Moonee Ponds from the mid to late 90s. Probably 90% of the school were Essendon supporters. **** I hated their cocky, arrogant arses. We won about 2 games against them in a decade and they won two flags.

Fast forward, 20 odd years later and I’m working in a primary school, a few weeks back these Essendon supporting kids were teasing another kid (Bulldogs fan) because 2M Peter went HAM on them. I more or less told them to shut up and that Essendon haven’t won a final since before they were born. That’s still the case and now we’ve won the bloody premiership. Can’t wait for Term 4 😊.

Hahaha I did this with one of my year 5s a few months ago. Then I told him I'd heard his favourite player Zach Merrett was going to sign as a free agent with Melbourne.

When we lost to Adelaide the class did a drawing on the whiteboard of me being eaten by a crow and sang the song when I walked into the room, which I definitely deserved.

Getting way ahead of myself here, but I can't help it. Going to ride this wave of belief for a while.

2007 Geelong is a well known story. Team loaded with high-end talent that had underperformed in the previous years, and had a coach that was on the cusp of being sacked. The team reset, they matured, and fringe stars like Ablett started to take the game seriously. They finished as minor premiers, and had two 100+ point finals wins on their way to the flag.

Can't help but see a lot of similarities with journey of 2021 Melbourne.

The composition of the teams was similar too, despite a very different game being played today. Two rucks (Ottens and King). A dominant midfield including two top-10 players (Ablett and Bartel). No dominant key forward - Mooney was good but far from the best in the comp.

The next year, their self belief was ridiculous. IMO Geelong were the greatest of the recent dynasty teams, on their best day it was unfair how well they could score and defend. They should've won 2008 and it's a shame they didn't. It would've been one of the greatest seasons of all time. 21-1 in the regular season and navigated the finals with ease until they kicked their way out of the flag on Grand Final day.

Richmond in 2018 as well. Not as dominant as Geelong in 2008 - but undefeatable at the MCG (until it counted), and the team played with a lot of swagger.

Slats and Glove retiring the pod.

End of a MFC podcast era. Slavs and Glove - will miss their irreverent humour. Hope Glove finds love!
Related info 1 - Kiran and Nita are also calling stumps on the Deeluded podcast which had great interviews with AFL journos.
Related info 2 - Adrian from The Deebrief making noises about getting a job and ending the pod.
Related info 3 - Tim hasn’t done a post GF pod on Attention to Deetail but this may be due to over-celebration.
Big thanks to all these people who provided content for nuffies like me for whom too much Dee chat is never enough.
Think this just leaves the D’Land Pod which as I have mentioned before has been excellent this year. Oh and Gus and Gawny of course.
May be an opportunity going forward to fill a Pod hole.
