Remember that time bruce mcavaney called essendon "they're everyone's second favourite side" I remember thinking no they're not because of all reasons posted above, but I reference to their game style I would have to say the same thing. For some reason they've always been a momentum side, I think since the knights period onwards. Sure it can be exciting at times and They've taken some big scalps along the way but that style doesn't hold up in finals. People like exciting football but never down hill skiers.

Essendon fans are largely classless but at least the few good ones they have will acknowledge how garbage the rest are. Carlton fans are almost universally unbearable in spite of being shit, I’ve never met a good one.

Ya know i got very bored, So i've been watching some replays and i found a question, that i decided to answer myself. When was the last time we had no relocated home games in a season? And i don't mean just the interstate ones, but including docklands, princess park and Waverley park home games

The Last time we played No relocated home games was in 1999, With 98 and 97 Also being years we played every game at the MCG.

Before that you have to go back to before they built Waverley in 1969

So we haven't had a season without a relocated home game since the turn of the millenium

It’s a weird feeling coming into this year. Usually it’s anxiety, nerves, excitement, trepidation and negative feelings. This year feels like a bit of a victory lap. No doubt I’ll be kicking holes in the TV when the Dogs beat us in Round 1 but for now I almost miss the comfort in being sad.

It does feel different, the deepest fear and doubt has been banished for a while. The competitive juices will come back to us fans when the games start I think. Supporters from teams like the Lions, Swans, Bulldogs will think they can overtake us. Others think last year was just a perfect fluke. There is always something to prove. More Jackson, Kozzy, Trac and Oliver to watch. Can’t wait tbh.

It does change things, I honestly don't think I will worry too much when we lose. Could be wrong, but I feel I've inherited Richmond supporter esq arrogance.
I’m not there yet. I am curious about how it feels to go through a season without people being at best charitable or pitying or, at worst, outright incredulous about my team

Will depend on the circumstances, as long as we are in the 4 and you know the team is in a good position for finals as in health wise I will be okay.

Lot of relief in last years flag win but I'm firmly in the 'need to win one in front of the Victorian fans' camp. I'll be very disappointed if we don't at least make the GF.
And also striking while the iron is hot. The group has the potential for another one or two. One would feel unders right now, which seems crazy to be saying.

The binary nature of the GF result evokes that feeling. Somewhere in a parallel universe the Dogs go on with it after Bontempelli puts them 19 up and we’re all wrist slashing that we missed our one shot because a Dogs (Giants/Lions/Swans/Bombers) dynasty is imminent.

I'm the complete opposite.

I've been telling everyone I know that we're going to win a flag and start a dynasty since we got pumped in a prelim.

We're capable of more flags and the only thing in our way is extremely bad luck or a bed-shitting of epic proportions- which we're capable of, obviously- and that's ****ing terrifying.

The thing I am most excited about is that we have a list that is still capable of a fair bit of turnover at the end of the year. I love that we are carrying blokes like MBrown, Daw, Chandler, Bedford, who are yet to have a proper crack at the Dees and live year by year. How important is that for culture? I don't think you can underestimate it. Let's say even 2 of them go at year's end, plus Hibbo & Melk, then that's enough list changes. Really allows us to play the long game with the likes of Laurie and Rosman, for example, let alone the new draftees.

Just wanted to tell u all I love Tom Sparrow

I predict that the Dunstan pickup ends up being better than most expect. Not a flashy acquisition, but feels like the kind that a good organization makes. I think he plays 14-18 games and is a good/solid contributor.

He’s a bit better than the others I’ll mention, but having Dunstan, Baker, Brown and Daw makes a difference when you need that four game cut out due to injuries.

They are much more likely to do a competent job for a month stretch over bringing up another underdeveloped 19 year old - even if that underdeveloped 19 year old’s ceiling is ultimately higher.

As good as Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, Jordon, Sparrow and Bowey were, it was really starting to push it for volume of inexperience in the team.

Just received my ballot for the MFC Board elections... five candidates for three positions.

Two questions...

Firstly, one of the candidates, Sally Freeman, says in her blurb that she was appointed to the board in November 2021. Does anyone know anything about that? Did someone leave?

I assume that she was appointed by the board, because I don't remember an election being held.

Secondly, four of the candidates have been assessed by the MFC Election Committee through a candidate review process. Only the existing board members were deemed as acceptable. Anyone know what the criteria for that process is?

You would think that it would be somewhere on the website, just for the sake of transparency, but I can't find it.

Scratch that second question... just found it.

Freeman came on to fill the vacancy created when Bartlett left: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1031517/sally-freeman-joins-the-board

Dunno about the second question but would be interested if you find anything.

Everything I've read about Sally Freeman makes me think she was appointed to check a box and has no real love for the MFC. Maybe I'm wrong but that's the vibe I get.

Peter Lawrence seems like he might be a bit of a nutter but at least he's a nutter who's passionate about the Dees.
