I’ve seen separate accusations of bullying and racism in the work place, thankfully neither against me. Having worked with all four parties involved I can safely say the complainant was in deflection/“it’s not me” mode given in each instance the complaint only happened when heat started to come on questioning their performance from the accused.

That’s not to say these sorts of things don’t happen, of course they do, but the picture is generally much more nuanced than what you can pick up from some quotes in a newspaper.

Footy clubs are weird places and “loose” behaviour is tolerated from those with support, so long as they are delivering, more than you’d see in a more regular workplace these days. “Copping a spray” is part of being a footballer, they expect it, but doing the same to a non footballer would be received very differently.
I think I've had the same experience.

There are some sinister operators in the workplace that do set out to make life difficult for an employee, but I've also seen a fair few incident reports and complaints of bullying that follow directly from a notification of underperformance. And yeah, the environment of a highly-competitive sports club would have an atmosphere and urgency that wouldn't be replicated everywhere.

Honestly, the story seems like a bit of a nothing really, or a beef up of issues that probably permeate most clubs at some time. The idea of ongoing cultural problems doesn't really gel with a recent premiership. My hope is that Goodwin is tough enough by now to shake it off and continue focussing on football excellence in 2022

Fn stupid nolene at work said I was bullying her, i got dragged in front of some people in suits and the HR woman "toump ass, sometimes you don't sound very friendly" **** you HR woman, we wouldn't be sitting here if you didn't hire dump people like stupid nolene.

**** you Nolene.

Appreciate it, but tbh I really don't see myself being let into an office environment ever again :grinv1:

The timing of the Goodwin piece is really strange. If it was released soon after all these events allegedly happening, then I'd say it's a decent story but to publish it so long after the fact, after Goodwin helped steer the club to its first flag in forever, is a very odd decision from Warner and his editors. Especially with a front page splash.

All I hear is that Bevo the master coach got outcoached by an alcoholic gambling addict
who coaches from the boundary like he's filling in coaching the under 12s.

The president has released a statement -;

**** yeah, Kate goes BANG!

Love it, what an opening sentence, "Simon Goodwin, the current reigning premiership coach and AFL coach of the year". Take that campaigners.

Agreed. Maybe they didn't get the intel until now? Or especially the Alco/gambloholic parts of it. The internal politics of the club wouldn't be as sexy as Goody cuts sick on the piss and punt while being an arse to the club doctor (allegedly).

As an ex-journo and editor my assumption is they didn't get the intel until now. It's still a story, but being so long after the fact waters it down a lot. It's definitely a beat-up to go so strongly with it on the front page, but I guess they knew it'd create a stack of interest despite having very little substance.

On the other hand, I don’t think I’ve had a workplace without some level of interpersonal issues between some staff. The feeling of bullying can arise from very sh*t treatment, but can also grow from the individual fragility of the person who feels wronged at a particular time. It’s impossible to tell from the article what really occurred
Managing people in world today is impossible. No matter what you do, or how nice you are, someone will always feel hard done by or wronged.

I can't even imagine what it's like in a workplace like AFL where high performance is everything. Most organisations can comfortably survive with employees who just want to plod along being average, but elite sporting clubs can't.

Kate Roffey has just come out in support of Goody and that should end this.

Flag 2022 pls.

Do you guys not rate Fritsch or do you need to see him back 2021 up first? I just see so many posts that has him as roughly your 7th best player but he seems like your most important imo
We have 3 of maybe the best 5 players in the league. Fritch isn't one of them.

Oliver
Petracca
Gawn
May
Lever

That top five is pretty consensus and I don't think anyone would argue Fritsch is ahead of those guys.

As others have said we have more important/better players than him in the team. Most would have him as our best/most dangerous forward though and is a lock for the 22.

Caro seemed to have a pretty good idea about it all the way back in September, considering much of the detail in todays article was mentioned in this article from GF period

Yep, and that's why I rate Caro so much. She gets things wrong, like everyone does in every profession sometimes, but she writes well-sourced pieces with stacks of inside info. Plus that piece is published in a much more subtle way than today's front page splash from the Sun.

I'm not sure why anyone takes anything the HS print seriously. It has fast become an absolute joke of a rag. It's basically a gossip mag now. To print this and put it on the front page is an absolute disgrace and shows how far this paper(?) has fallen. Mike Sheehan would be turning in his grave(if he was dead) with how trashy his beloved paper has become.

The players love him. The pres loves him. It sounds like he might have had some personal issues(divorce) and stress from a poor season with loads of injuries, and he's let off a bit of steam! I mean wtf can a coach do these days? Langer gets roasted for being too angsty, Goody gets roasted for being too friendly with the players. Sport is so over analysed these days it takes away a lot of the enjoyment tbh..

Caro was also much more critical of Bartletts treatment of Goodwin than Goody himself.

This was a very good article. Todays effort seems to rearrange the same information but recast as general negative click bait
