A YEAR since setting a new attendance record for a UFC event, the mixed martial arts promotion is returning Down Under.

Following the massive success at UFC 193, which saw more than 56,000 fans pack into Etihad Stadium for Ronda Rousey’s shock loss to Holly Holm, the UFC has announced it will return to Melbourne — this time at the home of Australian tennis.

UFC Executive Vice President and General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Canada, Tom Wright, said the UFC would host a Fight Night card at Rod Laver Arena on November 27.

...

Tickets for the event at Rod Laver Arena will go on sale to the public on Friday, September 23 via Ticketek, while a pre-sale will commence on Monday, September 19.

WTF is with a Fight Night card? A record attendance and a $10m gate wasn't enough for them last year?

I think Rod Laver will be a fantastic place for it... which is just as well, cos after getting the 2nd best category tickets last year, I reckon I'd only look at the cheapest available for a Fight Night.

So there's a rumour that Yair Rodriguez is fighting Doo Ho Choi on the TUF 24 Finale. If true this is a ******* huge fight, going to be a very exciting war between two up and coming prospects.
So apparently this rumour is false .. :(

I wish they'd legalise the 'cage' here in Perth (though MMA is already legal, go figure), guaranteed the UFC would send an event our way if that got over the line.

Would love to head over to Melb for this one but going to Thailand only a couple of weeks before so don't think it'll be financially viable. Lame.

For those that havnt watched it.. this is part 1, not sure how many parts there are.

Really well produced and it gives a good insight into what it takes to learn to be a fighter.

Even if you dont think he should be fighting in the ufc like most people, you have to respect what his doing.

Its not a cash grab and his working incredibly hard at 38? to throw down in the octagon.

I dont think his any chance at all, maybe 1% of winning but good on him i guess!

Well said. Whatever your opinion of the whole thing is you can't deny its not intriguing. I hope he does well.

Sonnen has been tested 4 times by USADA since being back in the pool. I doubt that he will come back now though, his daughter was born 9 weeks early and passed away a week or so ago. Tough for the Sonnen family, I'd say that he has other things to focus on.

conor's coach wants him to fight eddie alvarez at 205 in nyc
I'd prefer that to an Aldo fight to be honest?

Who want's to see another destruction of Aldo by Conor. Nothing has changed, Aldo barely got over Edgar in unconvincing fashion.

Has anyone ever defended an Interim Belt? Maybe Aldo should fight Holloway and then McGregor fights the winner of that?

Anyone heard anymore on the Jon jones situation? Since he put out that video saying he had gotten some good news and expected to be back soon. Have not heard anything further
Dana white said "it looks like has hasnt taken what everyon thinks he took, so it might be a positive result"

There was also a uncomfirmed rumor that gained legs that he took a generic brand a cialis.

Probably looking at 6-12 months instead of 2 years like romero and means.

"He won the first fight convincingly hence he will win the second." Everyone said the same stupid s**t about Connon vs Nate 2.

In what world is Aldo not worthy of a rematch...

It's risk vs reward for Conor. What is to gain by fighting Aldo again? Can the finish be more memorable? Will it make huge money? No, Aldo isn't a huge draw, partly because he can't trash talk due to the language barrier.

The 155 pound belt, the fight with GSP, or some other super fight is what I'd say that he is chasing.

Aldo got knocked out. With one punch.
That's not something you can strategise around, it's not like Aldo can come out and be like, well if I avoid getting hit... at all, maybe I have a chance.

McGregor would KO him inside the first round AGAIN.

Conor confirmed medical suspension - up to 6 months.

Pretty much rules out New York......can't say I'm surprised.
Those suspensions are made straight after the match by doctors in the locker rooms. Doesnt take xrays or mri into account so they are very much precaustionary at this stage. Can be ticked off much sooner by a specialist.

Aldo looked superb against Edgar after the first round.

Of course McGregor's not scared of Aldo. There's probably a whole bunch of reasons why he'd rather not have that fight. There's almost no chance that a rematch goes that well for him, even if he wins again in convincing fashion. He can get paid a lot and not have to cut all that weight.

I don't think his next fight will be at 145 and if it's not he can have no legitimate complaints if he gets stripped of the title. I heard him say how can you take my title and give it to the guy that I beat in 13 seconds. It's obviously not an ideal situation, but if you're not going back to the division then something has to happen.

I'm surprised that anyone would still think there's a chance that McGregor fights at 145 again - I think there's almost 0% chance of that happening. I would suggest that the reason Dana is pushing him towards an Alvarez fight is so he can "make history", he can hold 2 belts at once... and then they can get on with having him give up the 145 title.
