One of the most successful A-league teams to boot. So much for soccer taking over from the NRL and AFL.

Actually nothing to do with the popularity of the club the sport or competition.

Indonesian owners just decided to not pay their bills including the players. I actually think it is a good thing as the court case is a way to possibly revoke their license so new owners can come in without being lumped with a huge debt.

But obviously the code wars loving people from AFL/NRL will delight kicking soccer and the A-League without actually understanding the issue or facts at all.

Ok, but why would they let Indonesian owners own the club anyway. Having lived in SE Asia for 10 years, different rules tend to apply in certain countries. Surely, if the product is valuable then there would be plenty of Australian-based owners available?

Pretty sure most of the A League franchises are loss making. The only reason to own them is for status or if you love the game. Status isn't as huge a deal in Australia as elsewhere, and love of the game isn't widespread amongst the top echelon of Australian businessmen because of the dominance of AFL and league and union.

Yeah there are apparently new owners ready to take over. The group that owns the coffee club possibly but not confirmed. Unfortunately as with these things there is a lot of legal stuff going on in the background and not much communication from either the club or FFA.

The Indonesian company is the Bakrie Group who made a lot of promises when they took over the club in 2012 and it was always a risk and as it has turned out they presided over the most successful period in the clubs history and now appear to just want out.

Probably says more about the A-League ownership/franchise model than anything. With Tinkler-Jets; Sage-Glory, Palmer-GCU as the running list of owners causing dramas. I am confident the club and comp will endure and grow into the future. An article during the week in one of the finance sections actually put the soccer as second for the round ball codes in corporate sponsorship dollars behind AFL, surpassing the NRL. Probably due to the Socceroos.

Parts of the AFL model should be a guide as the way forward. Members with voting rights, electing a board to oversee, receiving assistance every year from the head body, largely from broadcast revenue. The AFL also owns all the trademarks, branding & names associated with the 18 AFL teams. The AFL also guarantees all the clubs debts which is the only reason many AFL clubs (including ours) haven’t been put into administration by the banks.

Is that flog Bowers still there, if so , therein lies the problem

The Bakrie Group sacked him after six months.

There are some sharp operators at the Bakrie Group.

We also fail regularly against the moving ball (spin, seam or swing) and chances are Anderson will hoop it around at some point. It is going to be fascinating to see how the techniques of Warner and Smith stand up against that. Love Voges and Rogers in the side though - so much experience in these conditions.

Hello, Achilles Heel.

Hello, Achilles Heel.

Was bound to happen. Worried about Voges though, was brought in on a combo of a great season but i'd imagine the selectors had an eye on trying to avoid this kind of middle order collapse and tried to put in someone they thought would have the temperament and experience to avoid it. So far he's been very underwhelming in that role. Going to need a big second innings score for the selectors not to look his way for a change should we lose this one. Sure there are others in just as bad if not worse form but lets be honest, he's going to be the first in line to be dropped if he doesn't get a score.

Killed it in the Windies so he's got more recent form than others. Marsh at 6 is a recipe for a disaster he's no chance of succeeding on a moving pitch.
