Is it just me but having heard him speak at length, does he sound like a leader or what? We already know he's a potentially a very, very good player.

I heard he captained the Australian under-16's cricket side before he decided to go with football.

Is the Hyphen a good kick?
After watching his delivery in the GF kicking 50m on the run.... i'd say yes...
Not elite yet but very very good.... If he can get some more engine and a little more size he will be a beauty.... and im very impressed with what he carries between the ears too... smart, well versed and a great talker...

GO Catters

Agreed Daz, his kicking on the run and in tight situations was very good on the weekend.
And it will only improve getting a run in the seniors.

Very very good prospect for the future!!

The one thing that stood out for me in his (very limited) game time in the seniors this year is that he can really use the ball well, especially by foot. I have high hopes.

I think the Brownlow shows that you dont need blistering pace to be a dam good footballer. GHS seems to have to poise and nous that is needed in close and going by his possession numbers this season, he knows how to find the pill.

I really am amazed no one has mentioned it. He's clearly modelled himself on Joel Corey. He's already improved greatly at freeing the arms to avoid tackles to get the ball out, just like Corey did.

Got a lot of confidence in him for next year.
He reminds me of Stanton (Ess) except he has an inside game and heart to go with it.

I said it early this year. Rnd 4? That he doesn't need pace. He is so clever and he creates time and space for the person who is about to receive his disposal.

That sort of footy makes teams look quick.

Leg speed really isn't as essential as many make out.
You find that a lot of talented players that may not be super fast runners like Watson, Dal Santo, Selwood etc don't have the leg speed but they have the mind speed and are able to anticipate opposition moves before they have even made them and make up for leg speed by gut running & endurance.

Hyphen isn't quite there in terms of tank, but with a good pre- season or two he will have - and may even be rated alongside the above mentioned players

If we pick up Caddy we will have Hyphen, Selwood & bundy as inside mids, with varcoe, caddy, Duncan as outsides and hunt as a tagger.
And then throw Johnson, Bartel & Kelly in rotating multiple positions, all of a sudden our midfield looks very very strong.

How is he as a defender?

Would think him and Guthrie would make good additions to our aging defense.

From what I've seen - and I'll immediately bow to others who have far greater knowledge - Guthrie is a natural defender and I'm quietly (actually very) confident he'll be a mainstay of our defense for the next 10 years. Horlin-Smith to me looks more like a midfielder. We do need to find another small to mid-sized defender though, no doubt at all. I'm not sure Murdoch needs to be a defender, he could be devastating on a wing once he gets more experience.

yeah I agree.

I think Guthrie is a natural mid to be honest.
But we might see him having to play down back, with the occasional run through the middle.

Did you see how good he was in that first VFL final when he was getting the ball through the middle?
He's another type of player that finds targets, likes to run, but likes getting inside.

He is going to be very interesting in my mind.

I have always thought this kid will be a star. I worked with the father of one of his mates who went to school with him and he had nothing but praise for him. He's a very well educated boy, very smart, went to a good private school and could have either been a gun Cricketer or Footballer. He has all the characteristics which the GFC look in young lads before drafting them, and from all reports he is of exceptional character. I am really looking forward to hyphen having a big 2013.

At the start of the year when interviewing Bartel, they asked him to name a younger player who people might not know much about who was ready to step into the best 22 aka Duncan, Menzel and Christensen from the year before. His answer was GHS, so he is obviously highly rated internally. I was a bit disappointed he didn't get more of a chance in the 1's this year and I'm not entirely sure why he didn't but look forward to seeing more of him next year.

Got confidence and leadership qualities by the bucket load, went a long way in my estimations in proving he's also got the elite footy talent to make a serious AFL player.
He needs a very big pre-season to make the next step.
I believe the club will really push him to become a regular AFL player 2013, and I think he's got the mindset to do just that.
