Do you think we would be less likely to pick Gibbs if we got Goddard? While I would be extatic if we got Goddard I would still much rather Gibbs. What are your thoughts?

Why would getting Goddard have any effect on us picking up Gibbs?

Carlton wouldnt have to give away our first pick for him, and we wouldnt be that stupid anyway.

The way that Goddard would end up at carlton is by simply leaving the saints and slipping through to us in the PSD. We dont lose ANYTHING except his wages.

nope no difference.
Gibbs can go forward, goddard can go back and so can walker.

Definately not Pick #1 in a trade for him, but possibly 17 or 19 (Plus a player) would be suitable. If StKilda play hard ball, and a trade can't be organised mutually, tell Goddard to put himself into the PSD draft. Guess whose got the 1st pick? We can't lose.

IF he wanted to come to carlton, give them 19 and Livingston and tell them to take it. Judas ring a bell?
Having said that, lets offer some others in that 12 uncontracted some serious money, start shaking the tree and see what falls out. iF they were forced to pay goddard above market value, some handy types will be let go

Just to clarify things I didn't mean that it might effect us in terms of trading the number 1 draft pick. No way we would ever do that. I meant it in terms of getting two midfielders. I agree that we should definately still get Gibbs if we get Goddard.

We really don't have to play hard ball with the Saints at all. All we have to do is convince BJ to leave St.Kilda and get him to nominate for the PSD. We don't have to give St.Kilda anything!!

we need more than 1 gun midfielder if we wanna be good.

Just think, a rotating midfield of Goddard, Murphy, Gibbs, Walker and Simpson. *mouth waters while daydreaming*

Anyways, back from that dream, I highly, HIGHLY doubt that Goddard would leave the Saints. Maybe last year, but I would think once the dust settles he would resign with St Kilda fairly quickly. If we are to have any chance with him, we need to get Sticks to walk straight up to him with a chequebook and say, how much? As much as we are in the sh*t right now with money, Goddard would be even penny well spent IMHO.

LOL! this is very true , i doubt very very very much , just like polak pretty much every year goddards name gets thrown up , as much as i would LOVE to have him at carlton i really dont think he will but i recommend the way we get him is through the psd .. just say to him , dont accept a contract and Stkilda wont trade him

I would lurvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve him down at Carlton, he's so beautiful.

Great leader of the future, he would look great in the navy blue.

Pick 19 and a mediocre player would do just right, or just get him for nothing in the Pre-Season Draft!

Not that desperate for an outside player who never has an opponent. We have enough of them already. Every one goes hard over Goddard because we missed out on him in 2002. Be good if he came over in the PSD as he uses the ball really well, although I'm sure we can kill that by the way we run and structure up, but I'd prefer to keep our picks for the draft.

It's a tough one at the moment. Due to us being a basket case we have to pay over market value wages to get top quality recruits. We have to be careful that we don't crank up the wage bill on players who aren't worth it, which may give us less room to move when we are a better option for good players to come to us:) We run the risk of getting a number of money hungry players rather than those who would be good for the clubs culture as a whole:eek:

I dont think it will be easy to get Goddard. Why should he leave Saints and come to us via PSD,leaving Saints with nothing to show for their efforts in developing him.I compare it to Kade Simpson,he too has finally come good. How would we like it if he just left us via PSD with nothing to show for it.Dont get me wrong I hope we do get him but it just seems a little far fetched.

Next year we are going to have a lot of room in the salary cap. We could easily offer a front loaded 3 year contract to a player from another club I would think.

The thing is if he left the club we could just get him again in the pre season draft.

We have lots going in our favour for trade week and both drafts

How many players are going to come to Carlton on a front loaded contract or even any club for that matter:D We just need to be very careful that we don't offer the moon to players who aren't worth it. We will become more attractive to the better players in years to come and we also need room to pay better wages to the talented youngsters we are now getting to keep them at the club. They are our future and we do have room in the salary cap now, but we need to recognise that we are signing young hopefully elite players in the future who will demand healthy salary packages in a few years. I would hate to lose one of our elite future stars because we signed up some money hungry over rated bloke now in a short term move to be competitive:) We are still a work in progress:)

yeah i was gonna say... goddard wouldnt wanna stooge us... you mite very well tell him to nominate for the PSD but he'd say get stuffed i'm not playin for you unless you compensate my old mob adequately.. i doubt he'd want the guilt of stoogin his mates hovering in his mind
