Do you think we would be less likely to pick Gibbs if we got Goddard? While I would be extatic if we got Goddard I would still much rather Gibbs. What are your thoughts?

Gibbs can go forward, goddard can go back and so can walker.

Lance said:Definately not Pick #1 in a trade for him, but possibly 17 or 19 (Plus a player) would be suitable. If StKilda play hard ball, and a trade can't be organised mutually, tell Goddard to put himself into the PSD draft. Guess whose got the 1st pick? We can't lose.
we need more than 1 gun midfielder if we wanna be good.marcmurphy3 said:Just to clarify things I didn't mean that it might effect us in terms of trading the number 1 draft pick. No way we would ever do that. I meant it in terms of getting two midfielders. I agree that we should definately still get Gibbs if we get Goddard.
LOL! this is very true , i doubt very very very much , just like polak pretty much every year goddards name gets thrown up , as much as i would LOVE to have him at carlton i really dont think he will but i recommend the way we get him is through the psd .. just say to him , dont accept a contract and Stkilda wont trade himwhippersnipper said:Just think, a rotating midfield of Goddard, Murphy, Gibbs, Walker and Simpson. *mouth waters while daydreaming*
Anyways, back from that dream, I highly, HIGHLY doubt that Goddard would leave the Saints. Maybe last year, but I would think once the dust settles he would resign with St Kilda fairly quickly. If we are to have any chance with him, we need to get Sticks to walk stright up to make with a chequebook as say, how much? As much as we are in the sh*t right now with money, Goddard would be even penny well spent IMHO.

We run the risk of getting a number of money hungry players rather than those who would be good for the clubs culture as a whole
Next year we are going to have a lot of room in the salary cap. We could easily offer a front loaded 3 year contract to a player from another club I would think.drusswaylander said:It's a tough one at the moment. Due to us being a basket case we have to pay over market value wages to get top quality recruits. We have to be careful that we don't crank up the wage bill on players who aren't worth it, which may give us less room to move when we are a better option for good players to come to usWe run the risk of getting a number of money hungry players rather than those who would be good for the clubs culture as a whole

How many players are going to come to Carlton on a front loaded contract or even any club for that matterXXX KINGS said:Next year we are going to have a lot of room in the salary cap. We could easily offer a front loaded 3 year contract to a player from another club I would think.
We just need to be very careful that we don't offer the moon to players who aren't worth it. We will become more attractive to the better players in years to come and we also need room to pay better wages to the talented youngsters we are now getting to keep them at the club. They are our future and we do have room in the salary cap now, but we need to recognise that we are signing young hopefully elite players in the future who will demand healthy salary packages in a few years. I would hate to lose one of our elite future stars because we signed up some money hungry over rated bloke now in a short term move to be competitive
We are still a work in progress
