I can't believe all the choker supporters are getting so anxious and worried about Mark Williams leaving the Power to coach the crows. I have an idea of how this rumour started but mentioning the name of the source just makes me nauseous. Reading their comments you'd reckon the Crows were bloody going full tilt, aggressively trying to hire him immediately. Ridiculous!

I saw on the news last night that it was Max Stevens from ESP. Claims he was approached by Crows officials on a flight enquiring about the Power coach's availability and who it was that represented him.

Good old Max Stevens hey....that reputable source of concrete information. The same Max Stevens that told Port that Nick Stevens would only agree to a move to Collingwood and so any talks with other clubs are pointless. The same Max Stevens that said 4 days later that Nick Stevens never had a preference. The same Max Stevens that said 3 days after that that Nick Stevens first preference was always Carlton.

Good old Max Stevens. I dont think a truthful word would have come out of that idiots mouth for over a decade.

You'd have to say there is absolutely without question 0% chance of Choco coaching Adelaide next year. Simply for the fact that I reckon the Adelaide supporters would riot if he was made coach.

Maybe Williams is doing a Sheedy and making it that all these other people are interested in him to secure a more lucrative contract with Port.

Sheedy has used Richmond as his tool for maximising his contract negotiations for over a decade. Poor suckers at Richmond think he actually wants to go back the revolving door club. The only thing he wants is more money from the Bombers.

1st - I think AFC would be crazy not to consider Williams if he was available at the end of the season. He has a great winning AFL record, granted no great finals success yet, but he is still learning the trade and not many new coaches walk straight into winning premierships.

NOTE: I heard an AFC supporter phone in 5AA Cornsey & KG last night stating along the lines of how AFC should not go for Williams because he hasn't won a premiership. Going by that standard Adelaide wouldn't have it's 2 premierships had they not given Blight a chance.

2nd - I think if Williams wasn't retained by PAFC at the end of the season (highly unlikely) then he would be crazy not to look at consider other AFL offers... even from Adelaide. He is a professional after all and sometimes you have to put allegencies aside to put bread on the table.

3rd - Max Stevens is a tool.

Myself I am confident Williams will most likely be retained unless Port's 2nd half of the year is very bad and/or our final games are extremely poor.

I'd take Williams as the coach of the Crows in a heartbeat, as would any thinking supporter. Any coach who can get 45 wins out of your last 57 home and away games while suffering major injuries is a class act.

But I agree that there is zero chance of Choco coaching Adelaide next year - because Port will sign him up ASAP to avoid any possibility of us or any other club poaching him.

Spot on. Put all the Choko/port adelaide hate away and if you look at it rationally you would realise we are talking about a highly credentialed coach. Why the hell wouldn't you go for that especially considering his ability to get th ebest out of players and bring along and develop youngsters. His trading and drafting has also been very good.

If he is available I would take him in a heartbeat.

Just out of curiosity what was his record like with Glenelg??????

I cant find any stats for 93 & 94 at all  .
From memory (That’s also hard as I surrended my membership in protest and only went to a couple of games) He refused to play players in their best positions and was stubborn when making any moves, overall his record must have been about 45 - 50% as I think we just missed the finals both years.
I was naive when I surrendered my membership, if he comes to the crows I wont make the same mistake.

His big big downfall at the bay was how he treated a lot of people and core supporters, (we HATED him not just because he was a Port fella but the single minded arrogance he had about him back then)

So one can be fair in saying that Choko's record in his first stint at senior coaching job was on a par with that on Neil Craig. Interesting;)

Sapaul answered this on another thread.

From memory (IIRC)
The year before he joined Glenelg made the GF.
His first year they came third I think, but two losses in a row in the finals saw them out in straight sets.
His second year just made the finals but lost it.
All in all finals both years for 3 losses and no wins.

For a grand total of 12 finals for 2 wins and 10 losses, with both wins being against Essendon.

"93-3rd after the minor round but went out in straight sets after a 6 goal loss to Port and a 10 point loss to Norwood.

94-5th after the minor round and suffered an 8 goal loss to Norwood."

Anyone know Craig's record with Norwood??????

Kirky posted this elsewhere.

"His coaching record at Norwood 1991-1995 - 60 wins, 56 losses and 1 draw"

As his figures suggest he was a middle of the road coach. If anyone remembers him coaching at the time, he had a good team, but a diabolical game plan.
