Not a personal criticism but I can't believe how at 30 years old or whatever Blicavs is, we still can't say where his best position is. I mean a senior leader at the club 'learning their craft again'? For what it's worth, the best structural position I have seen Blicavs play was in the 2020 prelim - midfield. Week later he was as atrocious as he was good that week.

I agree mate I just think give the guy a chance and lock him in somewhere- by learn his craft I just mean tou need to be honing your skills constantly and that is a luxury he has never had

A victim of his flexibility yes. But FB? No, not for me. Having him there looks like an attempt at damage mitigation and a bankruptcy of attacking ideas.

Couldn't disagree more. He was ordinary against the Dees in the PF, but didn't have much chance the way the ball was coming in. He was AA squad as a FB for a reason.

Yeah totally. Deserves to be a lock in a position where he can really feel settled and influence the game.

Fair enough. It's with ball in hand that's the main issue for me back there. Doesn't have an attacking mindset and the errors become very costly.

As much as we love him as a footballer - and for very good reasons - it's also true that after the 2006 review the majority of the playing group told him they hated him. So you want to accentuate his strengths and limit the weaknesses. If people don't like that work situation, well they have to look somewhere else sometimes.

Didn’t they have a crack at him for being un-professional, and always on the piss?

Sounds like Fyfe is also the head of recruiting and list management

Just like dangerfield 😂

It is hard to believe that deal with clark is nearly done as nat fyfe says, clark was super b4 injuries.

If deal nearly done wellsy and mack a sub standard deal won't cut the mustard with supporters, no matter how you rate him.

Praying we aren’t losing Jordan Clark. Obviously had some issues with Scarlett, but he is exactly what that backline needs. Would be abhorrent list management if we gave him up, contracted, for pick 26.
I know everyone in here wants quick fixes during free agency/draft, but unfortunately we just don’t have the capital or cap space. Smart list management would be to back in the list for another year, add some kids in the 2nd round, and add some youth to the 22.
Remembering the doom and gloom after the 2010 prelim. Match was over at half time, midfield looked slow, Ablett was our only shining light, and he leaves in the off-season. We had every chance then to blow the list up, but despite outside noise we stayed the course. All we added to our list was Billie Smedts, Cam Guthrie and James Podsiadly. We refreshed our 22 with kids who were already on our list, Duncan, Menzel and Christiansen. That, and tweaking our style rejuvenated our older players, who for most part looked cooked during that prelim.
Whilst Selwood has seen better days, the majority of our ‘older’ players still have great footy left in them. If we can’t be competitive with a nucleus of Danger, Guthrie, Duncan, Hawkins, Cameron, Stewart and Henry then something is wrong.
Hopefully, with all the announcements with assistant coaches, that is exactly what’s happening. Whilst the loss to the dees was as horrible as I’ve seen in the last decade, by no means is our list a spent force. That loss was the cumulative sum off all parts, mounting injuries, players carrying injuries, the virus that did or didn’t happen leading in, and meeting a red hot team.
Have faith cats fans, at least one more ride in this list yet.

Who are the Menzel, Christensen and Duncan from 2010 on the list now.

Surely a couple of SDK, Stephens, Evans, Holmes, and Clark if he stays, can fill that void. Remembering other than the exception of Menzel at the end of that season none of those guys were winning games off their boot. They just contributed by adding some run, carry, and accountability.

Every time I watch the VFL he impresses me. How long has he been around for though, I feel like I have made a comment a Year on him for a while now.
Geelong nominates Jackson McLachlan for VFL’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal
Geelong VFL star Jackson McLachlan is in the running to be crowned as the competition’s most promising player in a boost to his AFL aspirations.

Geelong is continuing to give Cats VFL star Jackson McLachlan an AFL push, declaring there’s “no reason” why the small forward could not be drafted.
McLachlan is one of 27 players to have been nominated for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, which recognises the VFL’s most promising player.
The past 14 winners, including Richmond star Kane Lambert, have gone on to play AFL.

Geelong VFL operations manager Nathan Tweddle said McLachlan remained one of the Cats’ most draftable prospects.

“We’ve actually had a number of other clubs ring and inquire about him,” Tweddle said.
“Last year was unfortunate that the season was cancelled and we didn’t get any football in. He’s one of those players that would have hurt but our big push for him now is that he’s at that age bracket where he’s 23, he’s still within his hit zone — his best footy’s in front of him — and we’re really pushing him to not give up on that dream of playing AFL.
“His last two seasons, whether it was 2019 or 2021, have been really consistent at VFL level.
“Our belief is if he puts together another really good body of football next year, that there’s no reason why he couldn’t be picked up.
“Even this year, there’s clubs that have been asking questions about him.

“I’d love to see him get an opportunity at any AFL club if it wasn’t at Geelong.”

McLachlan made nine VFL appearances this year and was named in the best players in three games.
Tweddle considered McLachlan an “outside chance” for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal.
He would be Geelong’s first winner since Jason Davenport in 2006.
“If he got picked up, it would more than likely be in a rookie position,” Tweddle said.
“He plays a very difficult role as a high half-forward. A lot of his games aren’t high possession games but the impact he has with his unrewarded running and his set up at stoppages up the ground as a high half-forward, internally we rate that as high as anyone in our program.”

Nice post and I share some of your optimism. Sometimes a loss like the PF can spark some necessary changes and put everyone on notice a bit and end up proving that in fact we weren't as far off it as everyone imagined when the final game is replayed in our nightmares all summer. Collingwood in 2010, us in 2011, Richmond in 2019 - all teams that rebounded from a humiliating PF exit the previous year.

I'm not as optimistic about turning Clark around. I'd take a draft raffle ticket in the 20s any day and focus on kids who actually want to be here.

If Clark goes, it must be another drafting disaster.
Our record in developing our 1st draft pick into a regular has been horrible.

2008 Mitch Brown R1
2009 Dan Menzel R1
2010 Billie Smedts R1
2011 Joel Hamling R2
2012 Jackson Thurlow R1
2013 Darcy Lang R1
2014 Nakia Cockatoo R1
2015 Ryan Gardiner R4
2016 Brandon Parfitt R2
2017 Lachlan Fogarty R2
2018 Jordan Clark R1
2019 Cooper Stephens R1
2020 Max Holmes R1

Parfitt is the only one that has come on.
Menzel was plain bad luck, but the rest...geez.

Holmes looks the goods, and a bit early on Stephens?
