I am not a beer snob by any means but great Northern is awful and you should feel ashamed.
Just to point out I had the same feeling years back.
Since then they have changed there ingredients and I think anyway and it’s now my beer to drink.
Easy and refreshing

Excuse me..... And your beer of choice is?
Depends on the weather. Dark ales and pale ales this time of year. I'm in SA so Coopers dark is a good move. As the weather fines up I'd suggest a few options that some might not go for like hefeweizen beers or steam ales but for mainstream options I'd look at little creatures but if you want a lighter more drinkable option a boags. There's a million beers better than Great Northern. I mean people give West End Draught over here a bad wrap but on a 40 degree day it's infinitely better than Great Northern

I mean, you can get away with a few brewing adjuncts, but beers with that much sugar in the boil should not be acceptable

Cheers, maybe I'll give it a second chance then. Last time I gave it crack I felt like it was more undistilled white rum than beer by mass

agree if your in the southern states should never be sold but actually up far North hard to get any draught at pubs

just on this, a mate of mine works for CUB and I’m pretty sure he told me that great northern is now the highest selling beer in Australia.

completely ridiculous if true…

If Clark goes, it must be another drafting disaster.
Our record in developing our 1st draft pick into a regular has been horrible.

2008 Mitch Brown R1
2009 Dan Menzel R1
2010 Billie Smedts R1
2011 Joel Hamling R2
2012 Jackson Thurlow R1
2013 Darcy Lang R1
2014 Nakia Cockatoo R1
2015 Ryan Gardiner R4
2016 Brandon Parfitt R2
2017 Lachlan Fogarty R2
2018 Jordan Clark R1
2019 Cooper Stephens R1
2020 Max Holmes R1

Parfitt is the only one that has come on.
Menzel was plain bad luck, but the rest...geez.
Could put Thurlow and Cockatoo down to bad luck with injuries too.

Edit: You're right though, it is very striking when you look at how many we have traded out. Every single one up to Parfitt.

I actually like Coopers Pale Ale the best if it's on tap

I’ve been liking sports beer after a run recently!
Never thought I’d drink the non alc but it’s fitting in very nicely to the routine

Geelong nominates Jackson McLachlan for VFL’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal
Geelong VFL star Jackson McLachlan is in the running to be crowned as the competition’s most promising player in a boost to his AFL aspirations.

Geelong is continuing to give Cats VFL star Jackson McLachlan an AFL push, declaring there’s “no reason” why the small forward could not be drafted.
McLachlan is one of 27 players to have been nominated for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, which recognises the VFL’s most promising player.
The past 14 winners, including Richmond star Kane Lambert, have gone on to play AFL.

Geelong VFL operations manager Nathan Tweddle said McLachlan remained one of the Cats’ most draftable prospects.
This article contains features which are only available in the web versionTake me there
“We’ve actually had a number of other clubs ring and inquire about him,” Tweddle said.
“Last year was unfortunate that the season was cancelled and we didn’t get any football in. He’s one of those players that would have hurt but our big push for him now is that he’s at that age bracket where he’s 23, he’s still within his hit zone — his best footy’s in front of him — and we’re really pushing him to not give up on that dream of playing AFL.
“His last two seasons, whether it was 2019 or 2021, have been really consistent at VFL level.
“Our belief is if he puts together another really good body of football next year, that there’s no reason why he couldn’t be picked up.
“Even this year, there’s clubs that have been asking questions about him.

“I’d love to see him get an opportunity at any AFL club if it wasn’t at Geelong.”

McLachlan made nine VFL appearances this year and was named in the best players in three games.
Tweddle considered McLachlan an “outside chance” for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal.
He would be Geelong’s first winner since Jason Davenport in 2006.
“If he got picked up, it would more than likely be in a rookie position,” Tweddle said.
“He plays a very difficult role as a high half-forward. A lot of his games aren’t high possession games but the impact he has with his unrewarded running and his set up at stoppages up the ground as a high half-forward, internally we rate that as high as anyone in our program.”

If we were into him we wouldn't be hyping him up

Reckon Brown and Smedts weren't far behind. If you could have predicted their injuries in advance that would be impressive. To be fair Cockatoo is probably in that group too. That's four first round picks in seven years. Can't blame anyone for players breaking their legs or doing their knees.

True but if they come in with an injury history that can/should be a red flag. Some people (due to physical makeup) are more susceptible to injuries.

This has been mentioned before, but it’s worth repeating… stop looking for the charity (injury) case. Pick non-injured juniors and play the odds.

Not a fan of the club risking their pick 7 on Joel back in the day? Or pick 15 on Varcoe?

Wells struck gold with both Joel Selwood and then Trav Varcoe, both had missed most/all of their draft seasons through injury but went on to perform at AFL level. But we've been burnt a few times subsequently with the likes of Darcy & Cockatoo.

Mitch Brown and Joel Hamling both went on to forge decent careers at opposition clubs; Brown was close to establishing himself with us but never quite got there; Hamling never even got an opportunity.

I literally wrote an extra paragraph that I deleted about Joel but here is a summation…

There’s no refuting they turned out to be excellent (Selwood) and really good (Varcoe) choices respectively, but it’s not really about individuals per se, it’s about probability.

we’ve had way more busts than successes with injured draftees.

put it this way-

if you get lucky and win the $40m powerball draw, don’t bet it all the next week on ozlotto. Take the win and play the odds moving forward.

Dawson Simpson is the one that still haunts me. Finally started to come good in 2013, dislocated his knee, still only 30 now, never the same again.

It is a pretty good drop that one. Doesn't go great in the middle of summer though

Apologies for the intrusion, however, I couldn't let this slip. The Peroni Gran Riserva Doppio Malto is a very nice beer.
A lot of Italian beer is pretty standard fare but have you ever tried Italian chestnut lager? Life changing
