Only reason he cant get in is injury, would play every week if he was ever fitWhat about Caleb Marchbank from the Blues as a key defensive option? 24, and can’t get in their team with Weitering and Jones settled in the 2 key defensive roles.

There are experienced defenders who usually assist where there are potential one on ones or pack situations. Henry and Stewart lead the way there. There’s only one KPD in that list, which is precisely why he’s thrown to the wolves haha

Positioning himself is irrelevant when his direct opponent just rag dolls him out of the contest, which is going to happen when you are giving up size to your opponent every week. There are experienced defenders who usually assist where there are potential one on ones or pack situations. This would allow SDK some leeway in learning to position himself ... not from a strongest man type of situation - but to be able to sit off a little and utilise his reach/athleticism to nullify or win a contest.
That some people don't get this basic premise (that not all back men need to be Mr Universe to play KPD) boggles the mind.
If Geelong are going to load up and try again ... which I think would be a very high chance of happening. Then there is some sense in that sort of decision. Talia is a much better FB than Henderson ... and for another year at least will be better than SDK if he is to play there.Waste of time getting talia. What is the point? He’s not going to be in our next premiership contending team, and they might only get a couple of years out of him if he can even get on the park. Complete waste of a list spot. We have plenty of coverage in defence, we don’t need him at all.
Thankfully it looks like he is staying in sa, so it’s not even worth worrying about. No more old, injured duds.
Why allow him to be rag dolled? He has height/reach and by the looks speed to cover without getting into that situation. If there are moments in a game where he is in that sort of contest then that's where he will need help to nullify ... sure there will be times where no one can help him and he is locked in ... but the likes of Fletcher did well over time on the monsters of that era ... even Scarlett early on learned how to play FB with a smaller frame.Positioning himself is irrelevant when his direct opponent just rag dolls him out of the contest, which is going to happen when you are giving up 10kg to your opponent every week.
Amazing work. That games per 100 dvi tells the story. Could totally turn this into a write up for the mongrel punt. Other clubs would be interested to see it, especially Hawks supportersView attachment 1249346
Conclusions you could draw from this:
1. GWS had ridiculous access to draft value (DVI) due to concessions upon entering the comp but has lost over half of it over the decade (and players leaving which “tops up” their DVI)
2. Gold Coast has also had ridiculous access to draft value (DVI) but just by virtue of being sh*t (and players leaving which “tops up” their DVI)
3. Geelong has had access to the worst draft value (DVI) of all 18 clubs 2011-2020. The system is setup for Geelong to be no good by the year 2021, not a top 4 side.
4. Geelong has used just under the median amount of DVI it was entitled to over the period (83% vs 87%). So it was slightly more inclined to trade value than other clubs. Port was aligned with Geelong on this measure while Hawthorn, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast were “worse”.
5. Geelong has taken more national draft selections than average. This is probably a deliberate strategy to get more looks at more lower value draftees.
6. Geelong fares close to worst in terms of (1) proportion of draftees still on list, only Sydney fares worse (2) proportion of DVI still on list, only GWS fares worse
7. Geelong doesn’t get as many games out of each draftee but gets nearly the best value (games) per DVI point. This may suggest it is better at spotting talent or is forced to play more lower quality draftees than average. Being more inclined to trade in players would work against this measure.
8. Hawthorn’s list is in a world of pain.
9. I have too much time on my hands in lockdown

Everyone keeps bringing up Scarlett and Fletcher's lack of size but who exactly was the 195cm plus 100kg forward that they had to hold their own against? It's a different game these days. Why allow him to be rag dolled? He has height/reach and by the looks speed to cover without getting into that situation. If there are moments in a game where he is in that sort of contest then that's where he will need help to nullify ... sure there will be times where no one can help him and he is locked in ... but the likes of Fletcher did well over time on the monsters of that era ... even Scarlett early on learned how to play FB with a smaller frame.
He just plays to his strengths and limits as many of the chances for his weaknesses to be exposed.
I recall that Krueger wasn’t showing anything as a forward so they tried him out in defence.I have sympathy with the policy in some cases. But I just don't understand why everyone needs to go through this same development pathway. Not that I'm sure Taheny was coming on, anyway, but he looked completely wasted in the back half to me. When players have such demonstrably advantageous skillsets for particular roles in the team, I just see so little is gained when they are shoehorned into positions that will very likely never suit their best attributes for footy.
Yep much different - it's more zonal - no need to be 10kg heavier necessarily.Everyone keeps bringing up Scarlett and Fletcher's lack of size but who exactly was the 195cm plus 100kg forward that they had to hold their own against? It's a different game these days.
SDK will benefit massively from a year of VFL to grow into his body and actually get accustomed to playing the position in a senior environment.
I dont understand why we are obsessed with moving players around myself, Kreuger kicked 22 goals in 13 games as a lightly framed forward in the SANFL and we abandon that talent pool within a couple of injury and Covid interrupted seasons, watch him play forward and do well for the Pies next year.I recall that Krueger wasn’t showing anything as a forward so they tried him out in defence.
Geelong just arent a club thats going to string someone along to the point that PSD even enters the conversation, especially for a guy thats got next to zero currency in the first place.Greame Wright was on trade radio and said he’s already spoken to Geelong initially about a deal for Krueger. He’s confident the pies can work something out.
There is no chance he’s staying. Even if something fell over Collingwood have pick 2 in the PSD and nobody in the media would kick up a stink or cry foul if he just went there via that given he’s such a no name.
Agree with this. HT was a genius at spoiling and intercepting too when he was giving away a few cms and kgs to the big forwards like Riewoldt or Franklin. The key thing is reading the play and positioning and of course having teammates up the field who can pressure the delivery. Why allow him to be rag dolled? Surely Ladhams isn't coming to play second ruck. He's already got that job where he is now.

Got 3 words cats fans.......Draft, Draft, Draft
Please no more trades in!
Hed have just as much opportunity at Collingwood if not more and has the security of a long term deal, really a no brainer for a guy thats almost 23.
Sure but point stands - Krueger can go forward if we have better ruck stocks

Time sorts that problem out quicker than you think.I got one sentence for you-look at our talent between ages 24 and 28-its thin-you cant address that solely through the draft.
Our youth under 24 is actually relatively good.

Taylor walked in the door at 90kg he wasn't exactly undersized, one of the main reasons he slotted in so easily was he was physically ready for the role.Agree with this.
