Matt Rendell seems like a total nonce.
Yep. If you keep throwing stuff out eventually you might get something right. but even when proven wrong (ie. Geelong hard to deal with and get things done and then was the only club to do anything!) he claims victory in that somehow Geelong listened to him and he caused them to do it! 😮

I hope every kid we bring in will be successful but we know it will not happen ... the amount of young mids we are bringing in and have brought in..there will be churn.

I dont know who it is but would it surprise me that some like Willis was gone after 2 years? Not really. Interstate kid..if shows anything he would be an easy target for the crows..much like Frank this year. Can he get games here?

We bring in Bruhn. Draft Clark

The comp is going to be hot for positions...and for the next couple of years positions will still be taken by some mature players. Interesting times on selection coming.

I'm totally unsure... Only the club knows that.

It won't shock me if we know what Hawthorn is keen on (and it may or may not be Clark).

I like the idea of Humphrey who is a more dynamic De Goey style player.

Clark could still get to us "IF" he is our target anyway at pick 8.

Bruhn and Clark are similar types so that's why I lean toward a bigger bodied goal kicking type.

If we somehow snag that pick 5 (which will turn into 6) you would think that it would be to ensure we get Clark though.
On paper Busslinger seems the greater list need by type at this point but I'm worried he might be a reach due to the lack of key defenders in the draft

Jack The Godfather - I'll trust you knowledge more than Rendell's speculation

Macrae publicly admonished his players for lying on the ground after a close loss. If he has a kid signed against his will Macrae won't even invite him to training. It'll be poison for culture.

Pick 25 on a new kid or waste a list spot on a kid who won't play a game next year and will get a trade in the end, probably for less?

Two things.

Premiership wise trading Sav means any loss of a tall at either end of the ground leaves our already wafer thin talls stocks at a critical level. Heaven help us if SDK misses any football. It could cost us a win or two when we are still contending.

Secondly any trade in which our FF1 goes in part of a Bowes deal is disaster. He’s simply not that good of a player regardless of how much he’s been built up. He ain’t playing 10 VFL games at 25 if you are that good and heading into next year with literally only a mid round future second (30odd) pick when you have the retirements we will hurt us making the list better. We MUST keep at least that 1st. Then backfill with a free agent and some wells late specials.

I get all that but its the afls call as to whether our fr1 gets traded if they insist on it.

I'd be surprised if Willis left. We went early on him and have taken our time with his rehab. He's basically been taken in by Kroegers family. He's going to need a game or two next year but with the footy he's missed that's about it. We have so many retirements end of next year he'd be in the mix for b22 rotations by weight of numbers alone.

I can only assume it means we will now retain our F1 for next years draft. If we walk away with Bruhn, Henry, Bowes and pick 7 whilst still maintaining our first next year it’s a superb result.

I doubt the afl will approve bowes for an f3 though so it will be a complex deal.

Completely agree (especially now that Sav looks gone).

Tall forward options coming through... Neale (Henry is a hybrid, not a KPP).

Tall defender options coming through... Absolutely nobody on the list at all, zero if Sav goes.

Mids coming through... Bruhn, Willis, Dempsey, Kroeger, Knevitt, Whyte, Stephens

When you look at it that way, it makes it almost impossible to pass on Busslinger to take another mid.

This is my concern. We've traded out our F2 and now there's talk we'll trade out our F1. Next year's draft is already being talked up as another 'super draft' and we might not have a selection until R3.

We can always trade back in next year especially with players involved.

Do any of us actually rate Clark as a top 5 prospect? I have only seen highlights so I'm not informed, but he seems very Deven Robertson.
Yeah I think he is capped on how good he can be, others have the potential to be better. He will try his guts out, I think he's got more guarantee of playing some footy. He's the most sure bet to be an okay player whereas some of the others could be Bont or bust.

I have no knowledge on him or any others. Seen nothing but highlights ...but with any of the kids ..most want to play senior footy. So we will see. Good talent we are hopeful about get delisted or leave all the time. Maybe Willis can stand out preseason..and then someone else will be under the gun ... all I know is they cant all succeed. and Bruhn and Clark would jump most already on our list.

Would be a bit interesting. The afl would be making a call on where they think we'd finish next year.

Whatever they do here sets a precedent. Could easily see a similar scenario where a club accepts an early pick, destroys their cap, adds a player they then drop and then accidentally moves 8 spots back in the pick exchange.

Afl needs to think about the precedent and not outcome they're solving for now

I think that's perfect. Get him in and in a couple of years trade for a Bont that didn't bust

I think Willis will stand out

I'm sympathetic to Willis. In his draft we took Knevitt, Conway and Whyte - all Falcons boys. Along with Kroeger and Dempsey, more VIC boys. Willis was the only SA boy and spent most of the year in rehab, I imagine he would've felt very isolated, not to mention he's from Ingle Farm where they're a bit of a different breed.

I guess we will see. I cant say you are wrong. You see him getting game in 2023?

With a full preseason, I won't be shocked to see Willis start out the VFL strong and push past guys like Cooper Stephens.

I'm actually more keen on Willis than I am Bruhn.

If I'm Cooper Stephens, I'm starting to wonder about other potential options.

Let's no forget that Bowes will be in the mix aswell.

If Stephens has any value on the trade table... I want to get it and turn it into something next year or the equivalent of what we could get Ollie Henry for, before Stephens current value turns into Charlie Constable value.

I get all that but its the afls call as to whether our fr1 gets traded if they insist on it.

One would have to say ...that is a lot more than the original flagged deal though. While still good ...its no where as good as original projected if we get 7 and Bowes money for our Fr1.

Its probably something like. P7 for P15 to P20 next year .

so you think we should not have drafted him?

When you look at it that way, it makes it almost impossible to pass on Busslinger to take another mid.

There is a big difference in mids taken with top 10 picks and even mid late first rounders like Bruhn and Stephens let alone the guys we took as essentially lucky dips in last years draft.

With pick 7 you are hoping to get your Selwood, Danger, Bartel, Corey level player you can build a midfield around.

Either that or a key forward.

Everything else you can manufacture.

Its probably something like. P7 for P15 to P20 next year .

If we get gc future 2nd back its basically the tuohy deal 15ish next yr for p22-25 next yr. Can live with that.
