That's what I've been thinking too. I know some trades are complex but surely some can be done, espically the Izak Rankine deal which was meant to be finalised last Wednesday haha.At least some of this has got to be AFL manipulation for the final night.
There's no way that basically zero trades go through on the morning of the third last day.....
Ralph ,,what more can you say... The media is becoming a mouth piece to put pressure on clubs this is the second time aligned media mouths have had a go at us in this period...
Geelong is making promises to Esava Ratugolea it knows it cannot keep.
It is telling the 24-year-old there is a meaningful role for him next year after only four AFL games in 2022.
The problem for Ratugolea, a newly re-cast intercept defender after two dominant VFL games in rounds 20 and 21, is that there are just so many star-studded teammates ahead of him.
In defence he is behind Tom Stewart, Sam De Koning, Jack Henry, Jake Kolodjashnij and part-time defender Mark Blicavs.
In the ruck when Blicavs isn’t playing the ruck-rover role there are Rhys Stanley, John Ceglar and the emerging Toby Conway.
If Ratugolea has to wait until Tom Hawkins retires it might be 2025 until he gets a decent crack at it alongside Jeremy Cameron, Gary Rohan, Brad Close and co.
In any other situation Geelong would do what premiership sides or dominant teams have with frustrated depth players and allowed him to prosper elsewhere.
The Tugger bitterness in this is just seeping all over the place...

We're honestly much better off trading for him next year anyway and rotating young mids forward to get games into them.He can stay at Collingwood and be unhappy then

I have been an advocate for that as well but I feel like I hav mostly been almost one out ...so welcome to the dark side
Consodering these guys are being told where to go ..one has to be very careful about equity and fairness.
I suspect club would like 2 and 2... an option to activate. Perhaps a set rate . Perhaps capable of matching offers... but you are right they do not want to be tied up with all players.
but I acknowledge I see it different to many others.
Id also like to get to the stage where free agency is far more available with more players capable of moving. Loosen up the number..get rid of compensation
The idea of any club , including geelong , getting something for an out of contract player is anachronism . A club should own the contract not the player. Once the contract is done they are free to select their own place of work...like anyone else.
Clubs rightly have a strong say over contracted players.

I'm pretty sure you can put your own contract on your head. So if he felt the Pies were lowballing him anyway he can at least be guaranteed that whichever club picks him up will be doing so on his terms. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.Henry won't be at the Pies, this is just some filler for the current dead airtime.
Question though, if he goes to the National Draft does that mean he has to sign a two year deal if a team like Hawthorn or Essendon snap him up before our pick at 25.
Have Jack Henry renegotiate his deal to $1 per year for 5 years.
Have Ollie Henry put a price on his head that captures his contract + whatever Jack used to be on before he renegotiated.
Take Ollie with Pick 58.
Simples.
The have 3 mids going out, they want to trade up to the top 2 picks, with either Wce or North. With GWS already having 3, 12, 5, 18, 19 ....
Just what sort of an influence will they have over this draft. ... I still do not get why they took 18 from us.
Henrys contract will state his club is required to play a minimum 9 matches in Geelong next season.I'm pretty sure you can put your own contract on your head. So if he felt the Pies were lowballing him anyway he can at least be guaranteed that whichever club picks him up will be doing so on his terms. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
The legend of Sav Down Back grows...
I think as frustrating as guys like him and Higgins were on field, their conduct and professionalism around the club does wonders both for club morale (apparently everyone is big on Dahl) and they would have given our VFL team some really good role models for how to be good clubmen. Will miss our catdog Dahlhaus. Seems like good bloke on trade radio

Yep. That's all it is. The funny thing is I'd imagine some of these 'negotiations' and discussions between various clubs would have happened weeks ago. Particularly for clubs that didn't make finals.I'm so tired of this manufactured crap every year from the AFL and trade radio...seriously. It's like a soap opera with all the concocted drama. Just make it 5 days long and get the players where they need to go. Seriously, I'm so over it, lol
Daniel Menzel was one of the most best players Geelong has ever drafted. His skills were sublime. Only comparison on our current list would be Stengle.Yeah if he ended up being half as good as Menzel was before his injuries (seriously he was projecting as Stevie J 2.0 but with better hands), then that would be phenomenal. Needs to work on the defensive side of his game, but has a serious leap on him and a lot of tricks/agility - hence the Menzel comparison.

I'd be happy for Dahl to run around in the 2s next year.I think as frustrating as guys like him and Higgins were on field, their conduct and professionalism around the club does wonders both for club morale (apparently everyone is big on Dahl) and they would have given our VFL team some really good role models for how to be good clubmen.
