I have to wonder how much of that gap is in everyones collective heads.

Personally I think there’s a significant margin. Atm. Whether that results in him having a significant better career is the unknown of course. But it’s hard to see him not being a formidable AFL player.

So this latest news leak re Leake (sorry had to be done) makes things interesting. Particularly if Melb take him before us. Throws a lot of the perceived list out. I reckon he’s unlikely to break into the top 9 picks but could see us trading down to take him if Adel are after O’Sullivan.

Firstly are you able to let me know how to tag someone!

Secondly, I think the answer is yes. Certainly I hope the Cats give VDH a chance on the list. I would even do it on main list (2 year) rather than rookie. He would start as purely a backup. Frankly as a good VFL player who could play as a “break glass in emergency” situation.

But I would not at all be shocked if he went bang after spending full time working on his game. Certainly it is a possibility. He has attributes. His big deficiency IMHO is his disposal and decision making. Can hold your breath with him sometimes coming out of backline. But how much of that is VFL system up the ground and how much is him just learning or confidence who knows.

I love his attack on the ball. Good size and good hands

Again, unless we have a couple of long term injuries in that part of the ground (like we did in 2023), he will still play VFL. But to me that was what Sav was. He is not at SAV’s development (understandable given Sav had 7-8 years in AFL system) and probably not the same athlete - but I think a good back up and someone who has upside.

My biggest fear is that there is another club out there who needs a back up and picks him earlier than we do (I expect he is our last pick?). I will be watching and wishing him well on the second draft night

Couldn’t translate that to the vfl team, if he’s putting up numbers like that next year in the vfl he’ll be in our midfield pretty quickly.

Unfortunately i can't see a forward in Neale either.
His speed and mobility are his only real assets.
Forward footy nous i haven't seen.
Looks like another youngster who excelled as a U/18 ruckman due to his athleticism.
At 21 years old & 3 years at the club it is time for him to step up.
In one position or another.
Another square peg in a round hole scenario ??
FWIW I see him as a 2nd ruck come pinch hit forward.
Fingers crossed he masters one of those positions.

Hopefully he is placed on our rookie list going forward. I've said before, the game he played late last season was pretty good. Busy. Got in to the action. Not bad after so little TOG in 23.

I hope they extend him another year but it’s looking unlikely. How many list spots are we looking to fill currently?

I’m given the state of our midfield at the time, I can see why we brought in Hardie. Unfortunately his form didn’t immediately translate to VFL. I like that we’re giving him another year.

I’m a tad surprised we’ve retained Hardie (although I also think it’s harsh to delist after a few months).

Our midfield was crying out for bolstering in the second half of the year and he still didn’t appear to be considered for a game.

I with guess a preseason he might be a chance of a game. But I wonder if it’s because they don’t rate this years talent pool so they’re ok with keeping him around for a year. Although he’s only on the rookie list so I’m not sure if that would come into their thinking.

Yeah foxdog50 i can see him becoming a polarising character.
Differing opinions on where? what? and who he is or should be.
Fingers crossed going into 2024 he delivers us at least.... Hope!

With respect Neale will only be a polarising character if posters can’t park their egos trying to be “right”

I just don't see him as being draftable, at 25 years of age you'd want to see at least some ready to go attributes.

He has a lot of upside because hes a late developer to vfl level and could really come on in a full time program.

My personal opinion , and im not bagging the 2 time Premiership coach , but i just thought it was a little bit mean spirited , particularly in his 1st month at the club when his VFL form was allright , to not give him a go as the sub , i mean Geel wernt playing flash football far from it

They brought him all the way across from SA mid season , i think quite a few coaches ( considering Geelongs spot on the ladder at the time ) look we will give him a shot as the sub and see what he does

I mean he gave Stringer ,George Bradbury from Tassie and not forgetting the bloke who use to crash the packs and thats about it ,they were blooody ordinary but he gave them a game
