Does anyone have time to listen to this and give an overview?

Summary as follows:
  • Handful of ads.
  • Was offered a couple of years.
  • Now 6/7 year extension - through to 2030's.
  • Expect him to take it. Strong relationship. He's heading to the US with Justin Longmuir.
  • Handful of more ads.

Side note - this is probably a blessing. Conway has great potential and our money / draft picks etc are better spent bringing in midfielders.

Thank You Lord!!
Reports out of the west.
Sean Darcy will sign a 7 year deal in the coming weeks with Fremantle.
Hopefully that will end all the speculation of the "Geelong boy heading home cut & pastes" on every article regarding him.
Bullet Dodged!

No need to worry about that... well, at least in this decade.
A 2 billion dollar stadium ain't get built under this government or the next.
Jimmy Leake is a ripper. Sanders is quite good as well. Ollington and Payne might even get their names called.
Ok disregard what I’ve said.
I thought they were coming in 2026

2028 is the expected year, I can live with that

Would we be happy with Caddy given Hawk retiring next year or would we split that pick ?

I wonder if JUH will entertain joining us next year...
JUH 10 year deal coming... heading down the highway where he should've been in the first place.

I think Caddy will be a bust. Walter is the only decent KPF in this draft and he'll be gone. Mackie's comments make me think we'll be targeting MIDs anyway.
This is a worry.
After bringing in Bruhn/Clark/Bowes last year.
Knevitt Holmes previously along with Dempsey and Willis.
Makes me think that we aren't overly joyed with what we have.
Or we are not in the ball game on some potential free agents next year.
The likes of Bailey Smith? McCluggedge? Freo's Brayshaw?
Mmm... we'll know more on draft night.
I guess if Sanders is still there Mack might be a happy man after all.

Bust is an interesting word.
As a high pick not preforming like one is a bust.
But if he ended up being a good footballer that plays 150-200 games? He’d be considered a good get if he went let’s say pick 25.

Caddy has the athletic attributes to be a successful key forward. Has good hands. Was inconsistent this year but had come back from effectively no pre season after breaking his leg. I’m not certain he’ll make it but I sure he’ll be the best key forward in this draft group behind Walter.

Watching some Angus Hastie highlights, where do I sign!!! Only started Taking footy serious this season after being a gun cricketer and basketballer, upside in this kid is huge. Smooth mover in traffic and oozes confidence, love it.
I think if he's available around Pick 35-40, and we have used our picks, then try cut a deal with a club for a pick there to take him for say F3+F4. You'd do something similar if George Stevens was there too.
You’re probably right - I was going on the basis that the top 8 (non academy) picks will come at a premium this year.

Edwards, to me, has better vision and lateral movement to DeMattia. DeMattia a bit more one dimensional. Edwards isn’t slow himself anyway. I’d be looking at him to play predominantly midfield rather than half back anyway. But we all see different attributes in different players.
I think with players outside Top 25, Edwards and Hastie look like they have good upside. ZZ is probably more a plug the holes type player, but I do not see him excelling at any position but will give a lot of positional flexibility, and you'd probably look at him in the 25-40 range.
If you are indeed going down that path then do it twice.

Pick 8 & 25 for 10,14 & 20.

Then 10 to North for a 15 & 17. Carl would also be sniffing around

End up with 14,15,17 & 20 for Sav and pick 8.

I just think we draft better in clusters. We always have. We got a lot of ready made talent in but in hindsight I don’t overly love the 2014 to now strategy of taking bunch of late picks after 40. Gregson, Cunico, Gore, Gardner, Menegola, Luxford, Buzza, Hayball, Esava, Narkle, Abott, House, Ruggles, Miers, Jarvis, Kennelly, Tarca, Brownless, Fort, Evans, Teheny, Kroger, Whyte, Nic Stevens, Foster, Ricardi.

That’s a long list of misses. We have done well with Rookies and mature agers.

With 6 list spots I’m sold getting as many picks under 25 no matter how late they are. Just as long as they’re under 25.
Yeah, I have to agree. I don't think the high turnover strategy in picks after 40 has a high strike rate. However, Picks under 30, I bet we do okay.
Can we rookie Flynn Kroeger?
Not sure how this goes
Zero chance. Club statement said they wish him well for the future.

If he signs a whopper deal and then underperforms through injury after a year or 2, we can snap him up on half the salary (partly funded by Freo) and probably be given draft picks from Freo. A bit like a Bowes type deal with picks offered, or where Freo takes the hit and some picks.

Curnow was only drafted at 12. It would be fair to say he took a few seasons to flourish. The athletics is what you most want to see with a key forward at his age.

Didn't he always have links to North Melbourne ?
Not really.

Norf tried to pull a sneaky one and get him into their academy really late (Like 3 months ago late).

Even if the whole thing is token, and the closest these clubs get to developing these kids is giving them some club merchandise, you're meant to be in their system from your early teen years, not in your draft year when it becomes apparent you're already a gun.

It shows how much of a farce the whole thing is, and I'm glad the AFL held firm and said no.

They've done nothing to develop him as a footballer, and didn't even know he had indigenous heritage until they realised it could benefit them.

The whole point of these academy's should be bringing kids through who aren't familiar with the game, or grew up as the children of migrants, refugees, first nations people, and alike.

Give these kids an opportunity at 12 years old or so, and provide them an avenue to succeed. It helps grow the game in foreign communities, and can provide finance to those communities who are less fortunate.

Unfortunately, like most things that start out with good intentions, club's are trying to corrupt the system to their advantage.

It would be akin to the Cats finding out Harley Reid had South African ancestry, and then claiming they're the reason he's a gun and deserve priority access.

I think it is more than a blessing - its like missing out on Jade Rawlings mark2- and keeping the powder dry for Brad Ottens a few years later

I think you still need to see evidence of some innate forward craft. But I think we see that with him anyway.

Was mid then forward now a defender... Who knows.
Hopefully someone wants him real bad and we can score big time in trading the pick.
Well on that phantom, crows might want our pick and we might be able to get their 15 (19) and 20 (25).

Archer Reid and Harry DeMattia might be worth a try there.
