It’s not that he made they bad, he wasn’t good enough to make them good. It’s not that that wouldn’t be bad bad they take. Those picks to the draft but they missed an opportunity to rebuild soon and potentially get good quick even if it wasn’t guaranteed

I compare what we paid for Cameron …which was similar and we have not melted. We have had a better win from that trade… but as much as Cameron making us better , he came to a side that allowed him to make the side better. he came to a club that had found some late picks and bargains so losing early picks did not hurt as much.

The irony is that Kelly should have cost them nothing being an ignored local and they had picks in that draft. Brander at 13 sort of burns. and they sort of did it again with Humpfires. Maybe its just too easy to under appreciate those under your nose…as Rich should have picked Davidson.

I really think WC core issues is they missed the boat on clearing out some guys at the right time and taking some pain. Probably being loyal too flag players. It makes me wonder if Melb will learn and be willing to make some hard choices.

Cameron is better than Kelly , he was relatively cheaper than Kelly. Cameron had more synergies to our team than Kelly did to theirs. Our list stayed healthy while WCE fell to pieces

Being a Carlton fan, I'm guessing their alluding to a certain out of contract Carlton ruck

C4[2]Yo`DooR has some of the best insider knowledge on BF. Looking through their recent posting, they are suggesting we're offering Conway to clubs including Carlton and Adelaide.

He would have next to zero trade value given his injuries and lack of senior games, and is incredibly highly rated by the club, so it would be an intriguing development if true.

Surely we aren't actually chasing TDK given the $$ being discussed?

Not a chance the club is trading out Conway let alone throwing that sort of money at any player let alone TDK

Just to clarify - I have no idea if the Conway/TDK situations are linked at all.

Just two seperate things posted:

1. Carlton still unsure re: TDK and what his intentions are.

2. Geelong still offering Conway to clubs (I can only attest this to Carlton being offered) despite being him being recently re-signed.

Idk, I wouldn't be surprised to see us move on Conway. You'd have to think the club by now understands the need to rate durability much higher as an attribute than they used to during that long period in the 2010s, when we were stung repeatedy for keeping faith for far too long in perma-crocks like D. Simpson, Menzel, Cockatoo, Vardy and Cowan for little to no reward. It's one thing to say "give him a chance to get his body right", but it's not like keeping players on your list who are consistently at risk of breaking down doesn't have a price.

On the flip side how often has the club traded out someone nearly signed ?

I find it hard to see it happening

If you only need internal validation, why come onto an anonymous internet forum telling everyone how smart you were for predicting that Bailey Smith will be good? That seems like the absolute definition of seeking external validation. But hey, whatever gets you up in the morning, keep doing you.

If you look at the game review thread from Fridays game you will see a post I made saying aspects of smiths game have surprised me (on the upside). This was well before you decided to take a victory lap because one of your “ITK” predictions came true. I was happy to admit that I may have underestimated smiths upside.

I will also say that he has played 4 games, is still wearing a big ass strapping on his surgically repaired knee, and the risk in him still remains. It is a long season, and his contract has a long way to run.

Funnily enough you haven’t mentioned any of the many “ITK” predictions that you made that went nowhere.

Keep that maturity level high.
The bolded is wrong Smith did his right ACL he's bandaged on his left.

Geelong offering Conway tells me they have secured another ruck in principle.

TDK? Cameron? Perhaps one of Hawthorn's fringe ruckman, Draper?

Sorry for the intrusion, just doing a bit of reading around. Somebody brought up on the St Kilda board earlier in the week that Rohan Marshall may be on the out, Tom Morris reported last year that he was unsettled at the Saints and the poster on the Saints board said he actually wanted out last year (unsure if Geelong were keen, but Geelong was a club mentioned that may be interested).

St Kilda convinced him to stay for another year (not too dissimilar to the Rory Lobb/Fremantle situation), if that's true, it makes sense why the Saints are so hell bent on De Koning, and further it makes sense why Geelong may be looking to push Conway.

I like this only for the fact that if Rohan Marshall is on Geelong's list he can't tear us apart for another club as he usually does

Very interesting info! Maybe Geelong realize they must always have a former St Kilda ruck on their list?

mmm…. this sort of makes sense with the logic of a lot of IF’s.

IF Carlton do not have a R1 pick and IF Carlton know that their ruck is on the way out as a FA and IF they have few other options on their list bar a 28 year old and a young developing backup then maybe a dice roll injury history ruck that would cost little might be of interest …if they cant get someone better. But atpit one would not recruit Conway expecting him to be a reliable selection option. Be interesting to see if he gets on the ground a shows form before years end.

IF Geelong have a few developing options and IF they have decided to bring in someone more in PnP zone then perhaps they do not need all the young rucks on their list. Is Pike similar to Conway? Do they like the look of someone else.Is there a ruck that they are familiar with that might be available in the MSD if they want to replace a potential loss at years end? Or perhaps they feel like they have the role covered and they want to release some sal cap.

Then again…it might all be codswallop and Conway is going nowhere especially when would be worth little in draft picks.

I dislike this only for the fact that it now gives Geelong another player that continues to dominate us. The ruck was one of the few things we had, and even then it wasn't great.

Ya win some and uh...uh...um.... Sorry friend :(

Bright side - at least it isn't your ruckman they're allegedly taking

Nah I can’t buy that we are shopping Conway because we have someone else lined up.

If we were finally hunting around trying to get a ruck why would we extend Conways contract, knowing we were trying to snag a ruck and he wouldn’t be required.

Makes no sense to me.

I do hope we have a ready to go decent ruck lined up though.
