Nick Riewoldt and Campbell Brown both made little jibes about Cotton On over the past few weeks. Very unprofessional, but I wouldn't expect anything different from an intellectual midget like Brown, but thought Riewoldt would be better than that.

Bruhn was meh but might not even be back.

I cannot see why Knevitt could not play elsewhere (i.e. Half back) if he cannot break into the midfield.

Shouldn't have got pantsed by a second-year mature age recruit playing with a broken hand then.

We weren’t handed these blokes, Collingwood and Carlton are stacked with guys they brought in from elsewhere, Brisbane have a similar number to us. People just don’t like it when a club they don’t like does good recruiting.

And it's not as though we just go and poach players. Half of our success comes from being a professionally run club with a brilliant culture and an aura of eternal success, the kind of place players want to go.

Geelong pay for 65% and Melbourne pay for 35% and he stays on his agreed salary
Especially if Melbourne finish bottom 6 and won't be contender for years

Grundy's contract is reported at approx $900/$1million per session with Collingwood paying a reported $350k per season for the remainder of the contract - through to 2027, with Sydney paying the balance of approx $650k per season

Oliver/his manager was smart when he signed the new extended 7 year deal, as it started at $1million per season & is indexed to the salary cap increase, meaning he's expected to be on somewhere between $1.4 million & $1.5 million come 2030 which is the last year of his deal

If Melbourne says they'll pay $350k per season for the remainder of the deal, it would still leave the new club paying over $1million a year on his contract. If the new team said that they wanted Melbourne to be paying half the yearly wage, that would be somewhere between $500k & $700k per season which is more than the average AFL wage for a player not on their list - I struggle to see any board agreeing to a deal like that

But who knows... Melbourne could be still willing to pay 35% of his salary if his at 1.4 million.
If they can see them contenders for 5 years, they could be willing to pay for it, whi he is approx 400-500 g. Might sound like heaps but not really when the salary cap is more

His contract being indexed to the salary cap increase only got revealed last year when things seemed to be getting serious with a possible trade to us

At $1 million a season I was hesitant, but when the indexed component was revealed & what his salary would bump up to it really made me want to walk away

If it's 65% then we're still paying him close to a million a year.

Have you seen him play this year too? Melbourne is swimming with a cast iron life jacket trying to keep him out there. The defensive holes he's creating is drowning them

If there's a choice between paying $1million+ for Oliver or putting that money towards a player like TDK, my preference would be the guy who's going to make an immediate, positive impact to our midfield... And maybe help his brother learn a bit of mongrel

I think it'll sink in for people just how far gone he is when Melbourne start playing noticeably better without him.

The problem is that unlike with Bowes, I'm not sure Oliver is exactly one you can smooth that contract over an extra couple of years - he'll be 33 come the end of his contract, and not sure there'll be too many teams looking to hold onto him until his 35 just to not take as big of a hit
