Yeah, as in someone would need to be fired if they approved it.
Not sure about that. If Dees paid a good portion of his salary and we gave up minimal collateral it would get done.

I watched the FFurnace with JimmyB and Hird talk about Melb players turning into play and how it contributed to Melbs dump kicking style. Im surprised that there has not been more said on it. After nearly recruiting him , and watching him this year, Oliver seems to just bang the ball so often and ignore better options, Im not convinced he would be a great fit. Could he be retrained to hit short options or handpass? CScott said he has been surprised how quickly BazS has fitted into our play.. and although he does tend be a mixed bag with dispossal he has also hit up players well. The pass to Neale last week for example. I dont know if Oliver would have the same success… and yes it would have to be a fire sale.

To me the obvious one with luggage who might be able to be picked up cheapish if we wanted that risk has to be JUH..

Im not convinced id want either.
Everyone has a price.

It would be a terrible idea. He has been genuinely horrible for the past 2 seasons.

The stat sheet looks fine (although some obvious weaknesses do show up), but watching him with ball in hand and defensively is painful. He makes Smith look like peak Ablett Junior as far as decision making and skill execution. His teammates are almost always sold into trouble, with the rest of his disposals helicopter dump kicks 35m without looking.

I just love how we apparently played the long game with Smith and started orchestrating his recruitment prior his Cotton On sponsorship and had a hand in their sponsorship of him 😂
"Hello private business owner. We would like you transfer sums of money for two years to this player we like so that we can get him to the club. No we can't put this in writing. Yes he is free to change his mind. ... hello? Hello? Did our call just drop out?"

This was my opinion until I saw him play in gather round. He was the reason they lost that game. When he was off the ground they moved the ball noticeably quicker and defended much better.

Have not seen him play since and apparently they have him tagging now (for $27k a week) which apparently is getting more out of him, but on what I saw I would be playing a kid ahead of him. Doesn't matter which kid.

I'll also add to this that he absolutely does not fit what we are doing in 2025. We are focusing on halving the stoppage and driving the outside advantage.

Oliver, if he gets it, was just hacking it forward or spilling it out into space at random. By allowing midfielders to run off him he'll create a hole through which the good teams will burn us.

If he is actually tagging now that might be different, but are trafing him in to tag?

Interesting that this article suggests Humphries is signed through to 2027

My Catscan page with link from the club for Lawson says at least till the end of 2026

Go Catters

Hell, no.

Oh, and Oisin says hi.

Much like the attention on Ollie I feel it’ll be the same with Max’s brother and that he will be picked up early
Can we swap Ollie for Hunter??
Asking for a friend...
Check the VFL team - #25 for flanks and #27 for wing
I do like the boy Ritschko. A lot.
Xavier Ivisic once he gets into that gym will be another Close/Miers hybrid type IMO.

I have said it b4 and will say it again.

MILES BERGMAN should be on our radar. Was on our radar. Is on our radar.
Not sure right now as i've not been around of late.
He is a multi positional on the precipice of being an A grader.
He's got the ticks on Character in spades i've heard.
Ticks all our boxes.
Whats not to like??
A 24yo with 90 games... multi positional... with a great skill set... great character.
Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick.
A walk up starter in 2026 on the Wing, at HB even Midfield.
OOC at years' end.

Would i take him over Worpel, Rowell, Reid, Butters or Luke Jackson?

TBH LukeyJ would be my number 1 target if i was in charge.
But Bergman based on cost of acquiring and salary would be second.

Anyways.
It's gonna get real hectic as numbers being thrown around for players we are eyeing have risen... a lot.

Just one last thing. the TDK story has a few chapters to go from what i am hearing.
Do not eliminate us from the last page of this book... Yet!!

Cheers fellas!

Great call. Chances are we just miss on Rowell (likely staying), and Reid and Butters are clearly 2026 options only I'd say. That open up the Bergman door.. Also as you stipulated, the cost for the above-mentioned two are almost rising by the minute.

Do we see better value elsewhere over the next couple of years? Bergman / Walsh? We value salary cap management very highly. Talk of Butters / Reid at $1.5M minimum - even with the salary cap increase - is somewhat scary. We're famous for thinking outside the box, if we can't land a player on our terms, we move onto the next option. It has served us so well. The thought of bringing in Reid as an example for $1.5M, what does that do to Holmes mindset when he's next OOC...food for thought.

You absolutely nailed it; a versatile, multi-positional player, is MB. That is a Wells special right there, and we know how much Scott values that. Nearly 100-games under his belt, and he doesn't turn 24 until October.

He's a Geelong type for sure. Sometimes it's not all about bringing in stars like Danger, Cameron, Smith - you can still bring in very good role players (Tuohy, Stanley, I. Smith) who can be very important for success.

We are as much chance of snaring Luke Jackson as we are of landing Kysaiah Pickett right now.

As for the rest of them, the only one the club would prefer Bergman over is Worpel. There's a reason why we've been somewhat seriously linked to all the others and simply listed in a long line of suitors for Miles.

The other three will at least border on being generational players. Bergman is tracking to be a very good player, no doubt. But I can't see any reality emerging where his ceiling comes close to the other trio. And his cost (considering his place in the overall pecking order of players) will be as steep as can be.

So if we ever see Bergman on our list, it will be because the club has thrown absolutely everything at the likes of Rowell, Reid, and Butters and come up short on every single one. He's potentially excellent but just won't be elite. And when you look at the deals we've gone after to bring in list-shaping players in recent years, the examples of Danger, Jez and Lenka tell you that we simply don't settle for 'good to very good' contributors as the primary targets.

What do you think he could be acquired for? Our R1 plus something Id have thought.

The AFL need to do something about the draft ..or it will end up hindering trades too. Its why I think this year contracted players will be hard to aquire. At least if a player is OOC ..the club have to deal. Im sure the Port would be pushing him towards the Saints.

Makes sense, I guess.

At a minimum a first rounder and then plus... Which FWIW is a bargain for an instant impact player in 2026.
