Usually the guy maintains their composure and dignity. Women turn in to a blabbering toddler. It's definitely the whole "look, a tall, dark, handsome, muscular man! Women everywhere drop their bundle for him"

It's in how the scene is handled. Hemsworth walks in, women is instantly mesmerized. Not exactly Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.

The sidekick male friend in Independence Day: Resurgence turned into an idiot around the Chinese fighter pilot.

He sure did, but he was annoying and that movie is awful. He was a blathering idiot dropping his bundle over everything.

i asked mrs north if she wanted to see it. she said yeah only to see thor (hemsworth).

To see Thor huh?

Her name wouldn't be Margery per chance?

Woody Harrison, Tome Hanks (don't laugh at me), Chris Rock and maybe ummmm..... Yeah I got nothing

Still wouldn't watch it anyway

Ah, so two debutants? ;)

Seriously though Chris Rock was perfect for a reboot a decade ago. Absolutely perfect.

Chris Rock is shit house and isn't funny. Would have been terrible.

Prefer the token black guy in this version.

Murray and Aykroyd both gave it a thumbs up. I don't particularly like the idea of bringing it back but if they are ok with it I'm not going to fuss. Can't be worse than the last Indiana Jones.

They're both in it too aren't they?

I'm not a hater on this one but the thumbs up from two guys being paid is worth less than dodgy plant reviewers.

I'll go with Harold Ramis' daughter:

I had been a big fan of Paul’s television work and of Bridesmaids — watching my dad, in his hospital bed, shaking with laughter at Kristen and Melissa was one of the happier memories from the years of his illness. Still, even though I knew Paul was a smart and capable filmmaker, not to mention a fan of my dad’s, it felt somehow like a betrayal. Then, when they announced the cast, I went back and forth between Hmmm, that actually sounds kind of awesome and NO! I still can’t support it. Harold, Harold, he’s our man, if he can’t do it, no one can! Then I started reading comments. O-M-G.

As much as I wanted to stomp my foot and align myself with the opposition, there was no way I could stand behind the viciousness and ugliness that seemed to fuel these fundamentalists. From flat-out rejection of women as funny, to remarks about the actors’ looks, to the invocation of GB84 as ‘untouchable’ and disgust with ‘reboot culture’ generally, I was shocked by the anger and outrage. Are these people for real? I wondered. Sure, the timing sucks, but damn! I mourn my dad’s absence in this world as much, if not more, than anyone, but for people to say that he is “rolling in his grave” or would never have let a female-centered cast happen is INSANE. In his personal life, Harold Ramis was a kind, generous, and gracious person. Professionally, he was always about sharing the spotlight and making the other guy look good. Please, stop using my dad as an excuse to hate the new Ghostbusters. It degrades his memory to spew bile in his name. http://splitsider.com/2016/07/on-my...ostbusters-torch-to-a-new-generation-of-fans/

Blues Brothers 2000 didn't get the violent reactions that this film is getting. Slamming the all women lead cast seems to be some sort of sport amongst the lowest of the low. The 4chan crowd, who will look at the grossest injury and death images and trade child pr0n but hunt down people who post videos of themselves hurting animals. The prison inmates who will injure and rape each other, but viciously hate paedophiles. Everyone needs someone to look down on, it seems. For the low-status male it seems that women are the online punching bag.

has a movie divided people as much as this? i reckon ive second guessed myself countless times since its opening

Its kinda hard to gauge as many movies have been controversial in the past and many of those pre Internet, so the ability to instantly vent wasn't there.

The birth of the PG-13 rating occurred due to Spielberg films like Poltergeist, Gremlins and Temple of Doom not fitting PG and not fitting R. There was controversy about their suitability for kids despite being well received films.

Or the use of the word 'damn' in Gone with the Wind.

Songs of the South. I've seen bits as a kid and it looks like a good film but Disney refuse to release it in full due to its story background and many people back that decision. I'd like to see it in full one day.

Titanic.
Twilight.
Man of Steel.
Prometheus.
Blade Runner.
Blair Witch Project.
Star Wars prequels.
Alien 3/Resurrection.
Matrix Sequels.
Hobbit Trilogy.
?

In the end I think Ghostbusters 2016 will be remembered as an average remake that'll have some note for its pre release controversy. Sony have shot themselves in the foot marketing wise as apparently some of the worst stuff in the movie is in the trailers.

I dont know about anyone else but I was ****ing ropable after seeing that in the cinema. Critics at the time thought it was decent enough but **** was I angry when the credits rolled. Only one other film has done that to me at the cinema

I remember not even knowing what Back to the Future was until we went out to the cinema on our Christmas trip down to visit rellos in Melbourne.

The first I had heard of it was standing in front of the cinema on... Bourke St?

Now we follow big movies before they are even written, and make up reasons why we like or hate it before we even see it. How weird is that?
