Please yall don't see this as a hammer, because as a HBF I think he could be All Autralian, but by jingoes Bryce hasn't fired a short all pre-season as a midfielder. Personally I don't think he is tough enough.

I mightn't agree with Rohan Connoly's assessment on the Blues in today's Age however he is on the money in saying Bryce needs to step up.

Views?

does need to step up and I assume he'll be doing it Rd1. We can't changing everything this early though.

Lets just all smile at the possibility of Yarran in the midfield in the future :)

Gibbs won't just be used in the midfield anyway.

He has the tools to play almost anywhere on the field and, if the situation arises, I'm sure he will be asked to play another position.

Having been at the game yesterday this is an unfair call. He was our top possession winner. Went forward, back and middle. Took a mark and had a shot on goal and was hard at it. Seems to me like he played a 22 year old version of a Goddard game. He creates time when others shit themselves and turn it over. Give the kid a break. Plus Duigan and Yarran have gone past him as HBF's anyway.

All this talk of a half back flanker makes me think your a bit of a w......

Gibbs is a deadset gun. Posters are bagging him like he had 5 or 6 possesions yesterday. Play him as an offensive midfielder and watch him bang them thru' from 50.

Gibbs should play up the ground. ;)

Teamed up with Murphy and Judd to playe a very good game in the midfield against the Cats in 2009.

The Lions couldn't lay a glove on Gibbs in the game where he took that mark and slotted the goal.

The only thing i say about Gibbs is that he seems so laconic that may be game style. But for us to push for top six he needs to lift big time, he also seems a liitle slow at times.

Gibbs will be fine.

Always cruises through the preseason without so much as a sweat.

Wouldn't worry about it. Not at this stage.

Have to agree with this. Not that you have to approve of it, but based on previous years this sounds about right.

Agree. Last year he looked very ordinary and uninterested in the preseason games, and if I recall correctly might have taken a few games to get going.

Big decision - do I put him in my supercoach team now or wait a few games until he fires up.

I think Gibbs has a very laid back looking playing style, even when he's busting a gut out there. Similar to Yarran.

I'll reserve my judgment for the real season. But i am concerned that he seems quite disinterested out there...more than usual

He can be a bit frustrating at times, mainly just because of such huge expectation I guess.

But still, he doesn't seem ever to quite grab hold of a game the way Juddy or Murphy can.

But I still have faith in him and I reckon he just might tear it up this year :thumbsu:

Kinda like the idea of rotating him and Scotland between wing and half forward. .. With the occasional injection into the centre. .. He can drift into the back line with good affect from a wing. ..

Most consider Gibbs to be an elite user of the footy. He led the team in disposals yesterday. I don't mind an elite disposer of the ball getting more of it than anyone else in the team.

This.

He was good on Saturday, it was a nice hit out for him to lead into round 1.

He is a very similar player to Goddard. Taller midfielder, not overly quick, high quality foot skills. Took Goddard until 3 years ago to truly become elite, he started off very slowly in his career and Gibbs is ahead of where Goddard was at the same age.

Just needs to add more strings to his bow like BJ (marking, strength), and we will be loving the results.

I agree with this as well.

The only thing Gibbs needs is for his body to develop to another level like Goddard's did. Goddard went from boy's body to a mans body and his elite form followed.

If Gibb's body doesnt develop further which may just happen, then he will be another Dal Santo which is ok... but we all had hoped for more with a number 1 pick.

It's simple mathematics really IMO
Duigan+Yarran+Laider=Gibbs+Lucas in the midfield

I think that this is what the club is going to be looking at. In the end, both Gibbs and Lucas are mids/wings and were only used in a part time role on the HBF to put a bit more into their game and to shore up the old Carlton defence.

Put them both in the midfield and the club will have a collection of elite mids in a couple of years that even the dual premiership Geebungs are going to be drooling over.
