Give W.A a third team

Both of our teams are in the top 4 as far as memberships go. Its clear that we are fast becoming the home of the AFL with a massive amount of support for the game.

Instead of relocating a team to the middle of nowhere, its time to add a third team into W.A and further take the Melbourne-centric views out of the game.

It wouldn't work. Freo had a ready made supporter base, with the north vs south of the river rivalry. But even so, the number of Freo supporters is much less than those that support West Coast.

To put a third team in would be suicide as you would not have a distinct region or supporter base to tie them onto.

We have about 10000 members in the waiting list since we don't have a stadium with a decent capacity.

I think we shouldn't get a 3rd team until we get a decent size stadium and build it at Cockburn dammit!

Actually, I think he's got a point. Perth is growing rapidly, so it makes sense for the AFL to focus on it as a growth area, much the same as the gold coast. I certainly wouldn't anticipate a 3rd team in the near future, but the AFL's ten year plan should certainly have room for it. But the facilities in Perth would need to improve first, preferably building a new ground.

Adelaide is a powerful club, Port is not

Both West Coast and Fremantle are powerful and are based in one of the fastet growing regions in the country.

I've been on this bandwagon for a while.

I certainly wouldn't anticipate a 3rd team in the near future, but the AFL's ten year plan should certainly have room for it. Ok, why not give Adelaide another team as well? Dont forget Hobart, Darwin, Cairns, Gold Coast, Alice Springs as well. Imagine the Darwin vs Alice Springs match? Huge rivalry between those two towns i just might add.

The new stadium is going nowhere, it has been on the cards since 2004 and still nothing has happened.

The government will give us our stadium if they choose what goes on there.

If it's a redeveloped Subi (crap idea) it will take about until 2015 to finish if they start in the next 3 years.

If they build a new stadium at Cockburn (which has killer parking and easy to get to - right next to the Perth-Mandurah train line), it'll take until about 2010 if they start NOW.

Hes got a point, with the massive resource boom only starting and W.A with the largest growth rate with many people moving over here to get work and take advantage of the big boom in the W.A economy I think we probably could accomodate a third team. I wouldnt want it though. Freo is bad enough

Freo = 35,666 members,
Port = 35,648 members.

So I can see where those 18 extra members really take Freo over the "powerful club" criteria compared with Port!
