I was reading on the drafts and trading board that a player from the Eagles in the SANFL Glen Dawson was tested at the State Screening and did pretty well. I also remember reading last year like James Moss the crows and power have tried to keep him playing at Balaklava to avoid attention from potential recruiters. From what ive heard he is a key position player who can take hangers and kicks a lot of goals. This year in the under 19s he kicked 54 goals in 11 games including bags of 8,10,5,7,5,6 and 6 goals. He also played a handful of games in the reserves as well. In 2007 he kicked 10 goals in an under 17s game as well.

Phil Davis is another key position player that we seem keen on as well. Dont know much about him apart from he kicked 10 goals in 3 reserves games for North Adelaide this year and was going to play in this years under 18s championships but was injured and missed the carnival. Rendell has mentioned his name quite a few times so in a draft strong with key position players this kid must be able to play a bit.

Does anyone know anymore about these two players?

Just did a bit more research on Dawson and it appears he is only 185cm tall so it doesnt look like he is a key position player but sounds like he can play a bit.

Seen a bit of Dawson over the past couple of the years, really rate him. Extremely athletic for his size and is known for his hangers. Has good skills especially kicking for goal.

I dont think he is to small to play full forward, because of his speed he will be a hard match up on and will be to quick for a key defender and have to good of a leap for a small or medium defender.

If my memory serves me correctly Dawson is a bit of a Burton clone, in more ways than one. It appears that your club has been quite happy to keep him out of the spotlight. Very smart. Doesn't go too well away from full forward but then he is still young.

Yeah, going by the discriptions, definitely sounded like a bit of a Burton, just wonder, doesn't sound like he has the aerobic ability of a Burton, but then doesn't sound like he has the massive brain fades of Burton. Sounds like one to look out for.

Dawssssssssssson you beauty i can hear it now. Hopefully we pick him up, sounds exciting. Sounds awfully like Burton which means hes destined for great things, without the Tirdman Brain fades which we all love so much.

i play against glen in the local league i the same year as him and rate him very highly. hes an excellent player wit great skill. i dont care which club gets him but trust me he will be picked up real quick

I've got a feeling we will pull a surprise and take Davis at pick 10. We want him and he won't be available at pick 28. If we do, I will be rapt. Really rate him (as I've said on here many times!)

I think you're right the more i've thought about it the more likely it feels as though we'll take Davis with our first pick and then maybe take Schoenmakers with our second pick if he's still available. Rendell'sbeen talking up the KPP in this draft so unless a Sidebottom or Hartlett fall to us I think we'll go tall with most of our picks this year.

What is it about him that you really like (haven't ever seen him play before). If the club do take him at 10 that will be a surprise as he has hardly played this year but i have read some really positive things about him. Pick 10 will probably be one of the most mysterious picks this draft as to will we actually go tall or pounce on a classy midfielder who has slid.

Also what makes you think he won't be available at pick 28 (i know it's all speculative)?

Anyways would love some insight or even some footage on this guy as we seem to be linked with him even among experts.

yeh i would get Glen Dawson for sure!
has extreme pass got 2.70m in the 20m
kicked 17 goals in 2 losing finas games this year
including 7 out of the teams 9 goals
has an x factor can take hangers
just needs to find contistency
does have very good hands espeically under pressure. would play him as a half forward flanker lead up type player maybe like an O'keefe could push into the middle just needs to work on his endurance get him fit but was playing full forward most of the year so was abit hard. i did see him play CHB in an under 17s game on Paul Cahill bet him comprehevisley gave good rebound aswell so yeh.

I like Glen Dawson as a potential medium marking forward similar to Mark Williams at Hawthorn.

Also like Williams he never freaking misses either, which is something the Crows could use!

From WWTFC website they have Dawson as 188cm (not always accurate I know) and 17yrs of age.

May still have some growth in him. Would be nice to get to 190cm but would be handy medium tall to slot into our future forward line of (potentially):

HF Walker Johnston Jacky
FF Sharples Tippett Dawson

How good would that be? Good balance IMO.

2 x tall, lead up, athletic, strong targets in Walker and Johnston (if we draft him) leading up from about 40m out up to the wing and back. Both long kicks. Both under 18 all-australian forwards.

1 x Giant in the goal square for the long and strong option (very mobile), will need the opposition's best defensive big bloke.

2 x quick, aboriginal, skillful smalls with x-factor

1 x medium tall who can lead up from the FF line. Good mark, athletic, can take a hanger and an accurate kick.

This forward line could potentially rival the best forward lines in the AFL.

Possible downside to the above proposed forward line would mean we'd be recruiting 3 forwards (different sizes) in this years draft.

Johnston, Sharples (small forward/midfielder), medium tall.

Pick 10 Johnston
Pick 28 Strauss/Ashley Smith whichever is available (or best available player left in the draft)
Pick 44 Ashley Smith/Strauss same deal, if still available (or best available)
Pick 60 Charlie Sharples
Pick 76 Glen Dawson if available or select based on club needs (ie future key defender).

Maybe a bit risky drafting a specialised medium tall forward (probably not very versatile) but its only pick 76. If not available by then we'll just pick based on club needs.

i had played with glenn at balak since we were about 6 years old and as long as i can remember he was a great leader of the team. He has an extremely quick take off which was proven when he broke the 20 meter sprint record. he also has a massive leap and great hands. (doesnt mind taking a hanger ;)) he also is a very accurate kick not just close but also 50 meters out and also has an insanly good left foot. im hoping the power pick him up cause he will be a player to look out for in the future.

Starting to think the same thing, just from a couple of things that I've heard.

Is there anymore information on Phil Davis anywhere? I must admit i've never heard of him, and havnt heard his name mentioned in any phantom drafts. Does anyone atleast know how tall he is?

He was listed as 194cm at the start of this year, but I was having a chat to his brother and Phil was there and he looks possibly even taller now.

Surely we wont pick Davis at 10. Admittedly I hadn't heard of him before Rendell mentioned him. But the fact that no one talks about he is either th best kept secret in draft history or not worthy of using pick 10. I suspect the latter. I don't mind if he's on our radar, but pick 10.

Dangerfield's name wasn't mentioned before the draft much and that seems to be a good pick up, but he wasn't an almost unheard of KPP, plus he had all the tools for success.
