People in London will be over it in a week and move on. The place is that big and busy that the residents just focus on the other things that go on in their life. I was there in 2005 with the attacks and it even happened there. Just a few points scored for The Sun, Piers Morgan and those other twats.

What shits me is all these people on Facebook marking themselves as 'safe'. Just when you think Facebook has everything attention whore covered they have this new bit of technology to make people reach another level of attention whoring. campaigners...

We can't afford the Islamophobia which is rampant in the Society and Religion board anymore, now that we're in the age of Trump and ISIS, who both use this bigotry for their own purposes. Yet the SRP board have just presumed that this is a jihadist attack, while even lunatics like Trump are keeping their powder dry until they have more information.

Maybe Chief can do something about it.

I assume you are posting here because you were banned from SRP?.Being on there was your first mistake. You would think a forum about society, religion and politics would be a bastion of unbiased free speech. It's not. It's the opposite, and it's just way Chief likes it.

I thought that was just to let their families know that they are ok. Not always easy to get a hold of your loved ones in an emergency, so facebook is a good tool for that.

Pretty much. They're very conservative about the opinions they allow, and I suppose it has something to do with advertisers.

Lucky this stuff happens occasionally to popular western tourist locations otherwise people wouldn't be able to change their facebook profile pic or apply a hashtag in order to show others how overtly empathetic they are.

All preventable death is a tragedy but I shake my head at the over the top reactions. Don't even get me started on the people whose first reaction is to whip out their mobile phone and film these events instead of offering help like something resembling a human being instead of narcissistic prick.

Interesting times.....are terrorist acts the beginning of peace or the beginning of something big.

War metals have never been in bigger demand with India seeking to secure 20% of the worlds supply for "light bulbs" they claim. Russia turning on small scale illegal mining to increase internal supply, germany using govt support to secure stockpiles for industry, china grabbing a whopping 85% of the worlds production and the CIA backing US funds to secure the metals.

In addition we see Russia move into a practice war in the Crimea and Syria. The US is always battle prepared and it will be interesting to see how India and China gain valuable experience.

My question is whether terrorism is related to this arms build up. Are we entering another cold war build up, or is terrorism just another reason for a war in the middle east or are the conflicts in the middle east just battle hardening troops for russia, india and the US vs China.

On the flip side gauging by history in Ireland, terrorist acts increased as the end of conflict was nearing. Perhaps increased attacks is a sign that peace isn't far away.

Cause they are clogging up the board so much.

They don't, but these events have unfortunately become so common that the threads don't really generate much interest, or they degenerate into conspiracy theory nonsense. They don't really do justice to the magnitude of the tragedies. I think having a generalised terrorism thread is a better option.

Edit: and as MEB_ says, maybe put an end to the 'it could have been me' and 'false flag' jokes

I know nothing about war or war history but I do remember reading somewhere that the winners in war are able to produce the most metal quickly, intredasting.

Are they really though?

I recall them happening with the same sort of frequency in the early 2000s.

at a short glance globally, yes
