I was discussing the gold coasts picks today with afew mates.
I thought they were getting their picks in 2010?
Some people said in 2009?

im confused

can someone please explain this to me.

Thank you for that.

I was trying to convince them all ****ing day.

But dont the GC17 get some sort of access to under17 players?
whats that all about?

Gold Coast get to sign a few 17 year olds from Queensland next year, also the eligibility for the draft is cut down for a few months so there will be less talent in the pool overall.

The top 10 next year looks like it will be as good as this years but it wont have that much depth.

I also think GC get the first 5 rookie picks next year.

They got to sign kids from Qld & NT this year, next year they can get any ineligible kids (born after 31/12/1992) regardless of where they're from, but they have to convince them to bypass the draft.

They're not likely to any great juniors, most likely the better ones will be confident that they'll be drafted the following year and will say no. Dayne Beams (you'd know him if you'd seen him, got 2 full sleaves) from Brisbane was approached by them this year, but turned them down.
Just for next draft i think.

No it's a permanent change. They've been slowly raising the age for years

have you seen him buddy because he has one sleeve:p

If Melbourne loses the required amount of games for the priority pick (the carltank number one pick of previous years) do we get pick 1? if not what pick/s do we get?

Depends where we finish.

We get pick one if we finish below West Coast.

Just say the ladder at the end of 09 is:

15. Melbourne
16. West Coast

And we both qualify for PP's Melb will get pick 2 and 4 while West Coast 1 and 3, and vice versa.

If West Coast don't qualify for a PP at all and we do then the Number 1 pick is ours no matter what. Then it just matters where we finish on the ladder (as long as we win under 5 games)

Finish 16th: Pick 1 and 2
15th: Pick 1 and 3
14: Pick 1 and 4 etc.

So even if we finish with the same amount of wins as WC but better percentage (meaning WC will have won more over the 2 years) we get pick 2?

Also, if GC picks come in at 2010, how is this the last uncomprimised draft?

Yep.

Gold Coast have the first 5 rookie draft selections, and they are also able to sign a few Queensland kids pre-draft (if the kids agree to it).
