R23 will be the first time the Cats and the Blues have played each other this season

Where and when: GMHBA Stadium, Saturday August 24, 4.35pm AEST

TV, radio and online: Click here for broadcast guide

What it means for Geelong: Contending for top spot. Reliant on Brisbane losing to Richmond, the Cats can claim the minor premiership with a win. After a rollercoaster run of matches since the bye, it's also crucial for momentum into the finals.

What it means for Carlton: Another big scalp on the road. Imagine the summer at the Blues if they were to end Geelong's hopes of a home qualifying final and make it seven from 11 under David Teague.

The stat: 1996. The last time Carlton won at Kardinia Park. After returning to the venue last year, it's just the second time the Blues have played in Geelong since 1997.

The match-up: Zach Tuohy v Kade Simpson

Former teammates in defence at the Blues for six years, it'll be entertaining viewing on Saturday. Chris Scott suggested the experiment of Tuohy (No.29 ranked small defender in the Official AFL Ratings) as a forward would extend to a second week. Simpson (No.17 ranked small defender) showed why he was set to re-sign for an 18th season last week with another vintage display against St Kilda.

It's a big week for:
Cameron Guthrie

Rarely given full-time tagging jobs but is the Cats' midfielder most likely to get individual jobs throughout matches. With the prospect of Patrick Cripps looming this week, Guthrie will have plenty of tape to sort through before Saturday.

Big call: Harry Taylor to swing forward at stages and pop up with a couple of crucial goals.

Prediction: Geelong by 24 points

This will be a lot closer than some people think, Giants really with only 1 true inside mid in Taranto and then undersized part timers rotating through and a lot will fall on Mumford to sheperd and do the heavy lifting inside and I cant see Cameron seeing enough of the ball to kick enough to win the Coleman with HH and Finlayson in the forward 50
Giants by 15 with losing the last quarter by 4 goals for the Suns comeback to fall short

Will be 8-9k. Night games historically are worst timeslot up here.
This should have been the twilight game

That is cause everyone is at work. GC is a hospitality place so people work at nights and on the weekends, same time games are on. Why they have a team up there at all.....

Does anyone know what the record is for lowest attendance ever a for a afl home and away game ?? There is a chance it could be broken in this game!

Thanks to crap programming in Sydney this game is the one shown on TV tonight, just turned it on by mistake and I think I doubled the crowd numbers, quickly turned onto one to the TV infomercial channels which looks more entertaining
