How is everyone rating the Sack? I have personally thought from wo to go he is in our best 22. Tall, agile, good contester in the air, confidence to run and create and can kick the ball long. Shaw has to come back in no doubt about that. But not at the expense of the Goldy. He is IMHO Collingwoods most important player going into the finals. He is that final missing link in our defense to go with that extra tall or small. Penny for your thoughts?

Absolutely love him, and his form is very good.

He is borderline best 22 due to our depth in his position and he is about 21 blokes away from being our most important player!

Been very impressed with him so far. Wasn't buying into all the hype earlier in the season, but he's definitely staked a serious claim for a spot come finals time. But with Shaw to come back in you have to wonder how he fits, certainly Toovey is the most vulnerable of our back 6 but he really hasn't put a foot wrong this year.

Yep Goldy is a gun.

He has arrived.

He's a natural born footballer, should not be out of the 22, as long as he holds his confidence, which i'm backing he will.

Play him HBF, possibly CHB in some circumstances, wing as a linkman, which I was hoping Fraser might do, better footballer than some in the team.

I'll cry if he pulls the pin and goes to gold coast.

Why would he leave a club like Collingwood, ave 65000 per game, play up in Qld with 10,000 ****wit supporters, at some empty footy ground.

Kick the sheep off the ground so the footy can start.

Goldy's a smart guy, no way will he leave the Pies.

Major player in 2011

Always been a fan and loved his last 2 weeks

Still its much easier putting them in than pulling them out

Our wonderful position at the moment is we have to drop a few this week but we have no one who deserves to miss out

Great for the team but really tough for whoevver gives way

For mine its

Cloke/Heater in

2 of Tarks/Goldy/Blair/Toovey out

I cant make the choice. Would hate o be on Match Committee

You talkin' about teef again?

Always loved him.

And have always said, with 10 more kilos on him, should easily be our full back. Only match up we have that can stop Franklin, and finally help Collingwood shake off the shackles of the Hawthorn spectre hanging over us.

Miles ahead of Toovey, even if MM can't see it, hopefully Bucks can.

Oh good God, another Goldsack thread!

I rate him as a good player but the love for him on these boards is staggering. He is nowhere near a champion and to suggest he is our most important player is ridiculous.

He's a good backman, with some good qualities, who would probably get a game in most teams backlines, but is borderline in our strong defensive unit.

Agree with the above.

You probably should have looked at the second page and got this thread.

He is playing well because our defense is a tight unit, not because he playing outstanding by himself.

He's actually a great one on one defender on his own.

Something we don't have a lot of.

Yeah, we're a good defensive unit but:

- Maxwell
- O'Brien
- Shaw
- Toovey
- Reid

Actually aren't great one on one defenders on even decent opponents. They're not terrible, but they're reallt not great.

Presti is top 3 in the comp one on one, and Goldsack is actually a great one on one backman.

the only other great one on one backman we have, we don't even use back there. Jack Anthony.

Goldsack's biggest fault is he is poor one on one, Harry, Heath, presti, toovey all miles ahead in that regard.

Name one Collingwood backman who has kept Franklin to only 4 goals playing on him for 100% of the time.

That's right, you can't.

Has destroyed O'Loughlin on every occasion he got him. He's got a great ability to spoil.

Would LOVE to know which games you watch where you think the others are ahead of him (except Presti who I already mentioned).

Shaw gives away free kicks when isolated one on one, or slips over

Harry CONSTANTLY plays 10 metres off his man, which leaves him helpless once the ball is turned over. When he's actually ON his man, he's not so bad

Toovey is only ok one on one when the ball comes in terribly, or if the ball is spilled. In a normal marking contest he might win 3/10 if he's LUCKY, and that's rarely if ever on a top forward

Vfl a month ago fisher kicked five on him
Ef in 2008, Stevens kicked 7 on him
Pf 2007 stokes kicked 4 on him
Higgins kicked five on him in 2007

Sack is many things good one on one defender he is not, you may have dreamed he is that's fine, doesn't go against the wealth of facts and actual visual information that suggests he isn't.

It's quite obvious he is a confidence player..

He has now played a few games in a row and its great to see he is improving with every game.

With Cloke and Shaw to come back in.
I would say he is in danger of losing his spot, purely due to team balance.

But i really liked the look of shaw up on a wing and running through the midfield.

Harry O'Brien has taken over that run and carry out of defence and has surpassed Shaw in that aspect of the game.

Ben Reid's ability to hit a target 40-50m away has added depth to the way we bring the ball out of defence.

As much as i like Jarryd Blair, Goldsack should be ahead in the pecking order and Blair's time will come. But Goldsacks time is now, and it's about time he is given an oppurtunity or he would be mad not to seek another club. Would be on double $$$ at GC.

IN - Cloke, Shaw
OUT - 2 of Lockyer/Blair/Toovey

Leaving our back 6 as..

Maxwell - Presti - Reid
O'Brien -Goldsack - Shaw

But would love to see it as

Maxwell - Presti - Reid
O'Brien - Goldsack - Johnson

Pushing Shaw onto a wing

Shaw - Swan - Wellingham

Either way, exciting times ahead..

Agree with that definitely OTT comments, but he deserves his spot and has been in good form atm.

Disagree he is borderline in our defensive unit but in the coaches eyes he probably is, I just rate him higher then 1 or 2 others in our back 6 in 2010.

I agree he definitely deserves his spot on form.
