THIS. 1000% this. It's fair to say it backfired on us by continuing to play him injured last year in a spoon winning season.
fu** knows why we are doing the same thing with Sloane now. We never learn.

I wonder in announcing the end for Lynch and Talia in this way that we are not expecting any free agent offers.
I would have thought Talia might have some value on the free agent market (even if it's a late second or third round pick).
But these announcements make it sound like we're just delisting them and they'll be DFAs

Hopefully he lands at a strong club and gets the flag he deserves.
Would he fit the Dogs system do we think? On paper they could definitely use a reliable key defender.
And net us picks of little value even to trade up late picks are of little value. We're still not really sure on this space, but from reading the rules a few of us don't think they're not actually classed as a de-listed free agent until AFTER the Free Agency period. If an offer for either of them comes in during the Free Agency period, then we may possibly be given compensation.
Some wording under AFL Rules:
If a contract between a Club and a Player expires on 31 October in any year, the Player shall remain registered as a Player of and be bound to the Club until the conclusion of the National Draft Selection Meeting in the relevant year. This Rule does not apply if the Club deletes the Player’s name from its List during the period 31 October until the time and day when the de-listed Player is able to nominate for the National Draft Selection Meeting under Rule 6.2(c).
This ruling would indicate that both players would technically still remain 'Crows players' during the Free Agency period, and be subject to compensation.
Otherwise both of these decisions would be very unusual/premature in giving up ANY chance of compensation.
Anyone from other team boards be able to clarify?
surely a great fit at the doggiesWe sort of knew this was on the cards but even so, it is sad news as he truly was on of the clubs very best defenders ever and I think still had / has more to give. I understand that we are moving forward and have younger players for those roles but we will miss his experience and leadership no doubt.
I hope he gets an offer at another club that is contending as he will be a great get assuming his injury setback can be put behind him. ll the best Daniel and thanks for all the great memories
At least he already knows their game plan....I don't know if the Dogs want anything to do with the Talia family anymore![]()
This is no secret. Thanks for the memories Talia."Adelaide would like to acknowledge the contribution and achievements of key defender Daniel Talia who has been told he will not be offered a new contract."

Thank you, Daniel Talia
The experienced defender will not be offered a contract for next seasonwww.afc.com.au
Our defence is rated 17th for scores against but I think that is more reflective of our midfield constantly putting our backline under pressure. It is a work in progress still but has battled hard this year and we do have the right mix in there.

It's an interesting one.It sucks but it's absolutely the right decision. Mackay, Kelly, Crouch and Tex to come.
All I know is I had better not bloody well see him running around with Lynch at Norwood next year..That club treats the salary cap as a loose guidesurely a great fit at the doggies
I looked and Butts 32% one-on-one losses when compared to other defenders is the followingThere is a stat for one-on-one losses. Butts on average loses 32% of one-on-one contests. Talia has always batted around 17-22% when it's been calculated, however, the stat was first taken in 2013.
There is a fair bit of work for Butts to do to catch up to Talia in that regard, but of course, its been a baptism by fire that Jordon has had to put up with.
I really hope they get rid of Kelly. I'm sick of seeing this guy give up easy goals, stifle our run out of the backline and mouth off at other defenders. Time to go Kelly. It's an interesting one.
We need some experience around the club. You just do.
Sloane, Brown, Smith & Seedsman count in that category, with Doedee, Kelly, Milera and ROB probably next. For that reason I think we will keep Kelly.
Crouch I'm confident will leave as a free agent.
Tex, it looks like, will stay. I think we made that decision before the racism scandal and are stuck with it now. If there was a chance he was going, then we would have been better keeping Lynch.
That leaves Mackay as the odd one out. In reality he should be cut. He's on the rookie list (which is in itself absurd), so theoretically could be kept relatively easily, which is of course what we will probably do, because Old Mad Dog doesn't die easily.

Yeah I'm sure brother Michael speaks highly of them and I'm sure it went down well with Daniel when Coach Beveridge and Preident Peter Gordon threw both brothers under the bus sparking an AFL investigation? Also remembering their late grandfather Harvey a member of their 54 VFL Premiership team was very upset with the club's actions.surely a great fit at the doggies
So why would a club "help" us out when they know he's going to be available as a DFA?You can't delist a player until after the Free Agency period.
If he gets a free agency offer, we will get compo - the fact we were or weren't offering a contract doesn't matter, I don't think.
I'd be more than happy to trade him. Just not sure we will actually do it.I really hope they get rid of Kelly. I'm sick of seeing this guy give up easy goals, stifle our run out of the backline and mouth off at other defenders. Time to go Kelly.
