Good,

The way we finished the game, intensity in second half was first rate...9g to 2...double their possies in last qtr...all terrific signs that there is some genuine fire in the belly.

Backline worked beautifully albeit the Blues had a host of no names down there

Good support for Foley with Newy, Tucky and Johnson stepping up for some contested pill

Pettifers last q...11 possies...I like the Boy

Sarge putting it on the line...in last qtr he was collected, %^$# that would have hurt those ribs:o

Mcmahon worked very hard, making space and creating options, generally used the pill crisply

Kingy...i like the Boy...ordinary players just cant play at that level...traps the ball cleanly, confidently takes on his opponents, quick and has a bit of %^$# in him...where's he been all our lives:p

Richo...moving and marking beautifully, was on a wet nosed rookie...Give us the same next week Big man

Bad...especially in 1H we picked some poor options going forward...why would we single out Howat in a contest or tambling...Good sides would really have made us pay for those mistakes

UGLY...the decision by the umpiure not to award richo a free whilst he backed into a marking contest with his opponent collecting his head, arms what have you was a disgrace and a blight on the game

anyhow a win we had to bank and gives some confidence going into next weeks Big game against the roos that we have matched up ok on in recent years:thumbsu:

THE GOOD
The form of Johnson, finally barging through packs with the pill in his hands and giving it off reasonably cleanly.

The mecurial efforts of N Brown, some very exiting stuff there

Richo - back to his dominant self

Kingy - i love this little bloke, just keeps on keeping on

Terry - i rekon he outcoached ratten last night, tried things - had bowden at half foward (not good for dreamteamers) but it is good to see that he is willing to try different stuff

THE BAD
Some of tamblings efforts, i am just wishing every week that this guy will step up, made alot of **** ups

Alot of the entry in to the foward line still isnt up to scratch. one stands out clearly when cam howat just dobbed it straight to 3 carlton blokes in the middle of the ground

THE UGLY
Carlton

Fev. Fevs attitude. Fevs toilet training.

The amount of imported carlton supporters, get back on the boat

Good: It was just fantastic to see the boys putting their bodies on the line last night. Richo (as always), Cleveland Steamer, Jacko, Raines, Will T, Tambo (after a bit of a squib earlier), Sarge...... Also the fact that we regained our composure after really looking nervous in the first half and playing accordingly

Bad: some of the skills and decision making were reminiscent of years gone by

Ugly: Kingy's switch that went out on the full:o

Good:
Richo - just...Richo
Kingy - legend
Thursfield - love the kid
Foley - still the same
Tambling - copping a bit of shit here, but he did some good things. That mark backing back near the bench, he would never have done that in the past couple of years
Johnson - he did good
Browny - pops up when we need him. Clutch player. Tiger woods-esque dare i say it.
We seemed to use the corridor a bit more often. Good sign

Bad: First half of the second quarter

Ugly: When Simmonds was about to take a mark, a Carlton player backed back into him, Simmonds put the slightest touch on his back, but not only that, it was clearly using his forearm. He did it perfectly actually, with this stupid 'interpretation' where if you touch someone it's a free, there is no way he could have done it any better. And yet he still got penalised. Doesnt matter though, cos WE WON!!!

bj mchahon butchered 4 out of his first five kicks so how do you call his delivery crisp?

Good:
Second half turn around, last year we would have faded away and got done by 8-10, instead we were able to step it up a gear after the break and take complete control of the game.
The game was not necessarily won by the experienced players, while Richo was great and Sugar, Bowden & Simmonds played well, I thought most of our better players were the younger kids. Players like Will, Hughes, Moore, Jackson, King & Raines were good and all contributed when we were struggling early.
No real injuries means we can go into next weeks game without having to change the squad needlessly. Of course match ups might mean a few changes but I would be happy to take the same side in next week.

The Bad:
McMahons first half was rather ordinary and I hope that he is not going to end up being a great front runner in that when we play well he does. Would like to see him play like he did in the second half when things are going poorly and at least trying to lift the side.

The Ugly:
Our shitty skills in the first half, running at 50-55% efficiency is fine against a rabble like Carlton but do that against a good side and we will get smacked. Hopefully it was like Kingy said the players were a little nervous being the first H&A match but it is still and area that concerns me.

you could have picked up possies in the last quarter BJ.

Good - we did what we had to - win and win well.

Ugly - it was last v second last in the first quarter and a half. Although it was a worry, couldnt stop laughing at the keystone cop capers that both sides showed.;)

The Good - Richmond winning, Jake king has officially dethroned God.
The Bad - Carlton (hehe, they teabaged)
The Ugly - The monsterous plumbers crack on the fat chick who kept jumping up and down in front of me. I swear she had a fold up chair wedged in there.

Wasn't it on channel 10??
I live in Qld (don't hold it against me) You wouldn't see hardly any live games if you relied on free-to-air in this rugby dominated state. Most games are on at 11.00pm Footy Show 1.30am etc Also with no daylight savings here that game started at 5.10 pm on austar :(

Good
  • Jay Schulz at Centre Half Back. He just looked so right there. I know he played on a nobody BUT, the way he spoiled and ran and just played, its like it was meant to be.
  • Our direct footy in the last quarter. Seriously, the handball and chip kick crap in the first half was why we were down. When we switched to just booting it to a very good forward line is what we should do. Give our blokes a chance at the ball.
  • Browny - hes back. We know first hand how far he can drag us up the ladder when we are shit (2005). We have a MUCH better side now, its scary to think what vintage Browny could do.
  • Probably for the first time in a while i havent seen our players drop their heads and get absolutley bashed around after getting into a spot of bother. They clawed their way back into the game and overpowered their opposition and i loved every minute of it.
