Excellent
Jack Grimes - what a star, very very good player, his smother of Mitchell, his movement in close, I'm excited. Might be worth a punt for rising star
Our tackling, everyone laid strong committed tackles - the only miss might have been on Dew.

Good

Spencer
Garland
Frawley
Bate (after getting towelled by Garland in the intraclub)
Petterd's courage
Davey
Bail
Skills by foot - not great but an improvement

Bad
Newton
Injuries to Wona and McDonald, but they don't look serious
The umpiring! - PJ's report what a cracker (and I loved big Spence's)
Moving the ball by hand out of the backline, some players are starting to work it out, most are not!

Ugly
The last quarter
Sylvia
Our fitness - hawks ran straight past most of us
That boundary line, bloody morons down there, pulling it in 13m just so it is symmetrical just confuses the players.

Good

- James Frawley and Colin Garland were excellent in the back half. We already knew Garland was good but I had serious doubts about Frawley. Not so much anymore!

- Grimes looks pretty good. Bail did some nice things.

- 12 months ago we were flogged by the reigning Premiers which gave the supporters little to no hope for the season ahead. Today we were the better side for 3 quarters and were unlucky to be pipped at the post. It's not a win but it's encouraging.

- Davey and McLean fit and firing :thumbsu:

Bad

- Injuries.

- Couldn't hold onto a match winning lead.

- Newton, Sylvia

Ugly

- Dwayne Russell

Spot on mate, I can excuse some mistakes like not knowing Bail and confusing Petterd and Bartram, but he made multiple mistakes including calling Garland for Bartram and Dunn at one stage when he was nowhere near the ball.

It was also hard to listen to Dunstal through his man crush on Roughead but you can understand that, at least he knew some of the Melbourne players and had tried to keep himself in line.

Good:
Spencer
1st three quarters (esp 3rd)
Bate
Green
Mclean

Bad:
injuries to aussie and junior
PJ and Spencer reported (should get thrown out though)
Dunn (W.O.G. IMO)
Umpiring (should have been a free to martin in the 4th against roughhead for in the back)
our kicking (8 goals 9 behinds-we would have won if we kicked straight)

Ugly
4th qtr (our lack of commitment, its like we just gave up)

our forward line has definitly improved since last year, its nice to see, when the ball gets kicked into our 50, players going after the ball. unlike last year when we never had anyone there.

Good
- Jack Grimes' smother
- Garland/Martin/Frawley/Warnock in the back half.
- The tackling early on.
- Petterd's courage.
- New boys (Spencer and Bail, particularly the Spence)

Bad
- Disposal (Cale Morton is a worry, Bruce 2.0)
- Falling away like that.
- Injuries to Wona and Junior.
- Losing.
- Set shots for goals (Sylvia, Miller, PJ all guilty)
- Losing.

Ugly
- Michael Newton (no marks).
- Colin Sylvia (not worthy of a spot in the 22 at this stage)
- Did I mention losing?
- Bailey, no excuses, thoroughly outcoached in the final quarter.

Sylvia was the worst by a long mile, I'm convinced that this guy can't play football. I know its early but i say it every year, Trade the idiot!

I thought Cheney was very good today, maybe it's just me though.:thumbsu:

He was super, specially in the 2nd half, disposal got better and better. He was the yungest player drafter last year(?) so in a way he cud be seen a first year player this year. Does anyone else think he is a mini peter walsh?

Spencer was very good as well.

Good: Spencer, a very good effort.

Bad: Low Disposal skills ( Turnovers)

Ugly: We had just about a best team in, and welost to a team that had
8 or 9 of their best players unavailable.

We had our best forward (Robertson), best defender (Rivers), midfielders Moloney and Buckley, and experienced defender Wheatley all out. We then lost our captain McDonald, plus the very dangerous Wonaeamirri early on in the match, which didn't help our cause.

So by half time, we had about 7 guys unavailable who would probably be in our best 22.

Not to mention, that it was a case of top vs. bottom, so really I don't see how it is such a negative.

moloney and rivers are always out anyway so that doesnt count. At the end of the day, they didnt have buddy. theres 6 goals right there, on top of rougheads 5 i reckon.

And how did you come to the conclusion of 6 goals for Franklin?

He could have kicked 6 but he could just have easily kicked nothing.

Moloney and Rivers are in our best 22, even if they are injured frequently they still count.
