I think that Riska's refusal to move to Carlton just shows how disadvantaged we are in that players, once here, never want to leave. Clearly some some sort of allowance is required to counter the stay-away-from-home factor.
:D

JMac wants to go - and many of us on this board have said that we only want players who want to be here, so he should go.

The flip side to that is that Riska has shown how much he wants to stay a Lion, so we need him to stay.

Good for you Riska. Hope you have a great season in 2010, you deserve it.

I wonder if the title of this thread will change next season when Riska's contract is up for renegotiation and he walks to Essendon via PSD without Brisbane getting a scerrig. I'd suggest a more apt title "You Bustard Rscha"

while i admire his loyalty to the club if his refusal costs us the most awesome forward line in the league i reckon he had better start learning how to get them through the posts something he aint to flash at and he better have a bloddy good year.:(

I'm not buying the clubman angle just yet. Talk has been circulating for that Rischa would be heading back to Victoria via. Windy Hill for some time.

As was the talk of Bradshaw looking to head back to Victoria.

Call me a cynic, but I'm not buying his undying loyalty to the Lions.

I suspect that if he was offered as a trade involving Lovett (and Essendon accepted) we may have a different scenario.

My opinion is that Mr. Rischitelli felt that he wasn't likely to be within with Carlton's best 22, given their impressive midfield depth, and going there could comprimise his job security.

The other is that he is eyeing a spot with GC17, and that holds true to the happy in Queensland line.

At is a self-serving move; and to say it is not, is a bit counter-intuitive. The club asked him to make the move, and he has said no... his answer was not for the betterment of the club, but for his own well-being.

Ultimately, as a professional footballer, that is his perogative and his responsibility to look after himself and his partner by finding the most secure and lucrative deal available to him and his family.

These things don't get forgotten, and seems silly to think this won't hurt the Lions and Rischitelli moving forward.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say his situation's changed. Given most of the talk was about his long-term Queensland-based partner, that'd definitely affect matters. However it wouldn't surprise me if it's the GC that's used to boost up his value next year instead. Hopefully I'm wrong though...

TBH I am with Ichiban. Just hope that he actually does something worthwhile like win a few clearances every now and then next year

Difference is Mr Carlton he has ethics. Your club has a different culture.

if Carlton didn't want to improve its ethics and culture, it would have kept Fevola, we all know how talented he is

speaking of ethics, did anyone hear Rick Olarenshaw on the radio this morning (in Melbourne)? he was talking about what Voss said to Risca, not sure I heard it right

It sounds like the main reason he didn't want to move was because of his gf. That doesn't make me think of him having a passion to stay in Bris to play for the Lions. His position next year will be under threat and career wise it may have been best for him to move to Carlton but I am glad he stayed and hope he can improve a little more next year.

Good on him for making a stance, but he needs to back it up with on-field achievements. Being stoic and loving Queensland is great but won't matter unless he gets a few kicks.

Are you saying that it's easier for him to get a game in the Carlton midfield .. as opposed to the Lions midfield? :spade:
