Goodes hamstring??

lol. A bit of an over-reaction from those defending Goodes isn't it? RUNVS was the only person who suggested he should be dropped. Everyone else has just said he looks slightly off his game but still one of our best basically.

I don't see a problem with this kind of discussion. He's what? 32? You'd expect he'd be slowing down a little at this age and even if he can only perform at 60-70% he'd still be a valuable player.

I just hope he doesn't want to hang the boots up as soon as he can no longer perform at his peak. Hopefully he only gives it away when he can no longer perform the role asked of him each week because I don't see that happening for a long, long time.

The only thing on the weekend that wasn't up to his normally high levels was his marking IMO. He really improved his contested marking before the 2009 season (when he was told he would be playing forward more) and since has been a very strong contested mark whilst leading or one on one. He had quite a few opportunities against a smaller opponent on the weekend to clunk marks but he didn't quite do it. That's the only thing I think you can genuinely identify as a part of his game he was down on on the weekend.

You could say he needs to be more selfish too I suppose but he still set up 2 or 3 three goals whilst kicking 3 himself. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any worrying about his form.

The only thing that has worried me a bit is him shirking the contest a little. Before someone attacks me for that, I don't mean he is being soft. There are just occasions I've noticed where he doesn't go up for the mark or doesn't try to hit a pack, but instead peels off.

I wonder if there is quite a psychological issue about coming bak from a long stint on the sidelines, something which he hasn't really experienced before? Possibly exacerbated by the fact he knows he is getting older and doesn't want to risk re-injuring himself and that being it.

I think he's worried about being suspended.

First few games back looked like he was on the angry pills and his timing being a bit off resulted in a couple of near misses.

Recently he's looked a bit cautious going into those situations.

It is all in the timing. Hopefully it just clicks and we''ll see Mr Goodes clunking marks and dancing through packs with the ball on a string again real soon. Soccer skills and goal kicking have been ok so maybe not that far away.
