I think the man deserves his own thread.

He's pretty much been in career best form this year. He's put in more BOG performances than he has in recent years, his quieter games have been much more productive, and he's had fewer quiet games overall imo. But most importantly, his touches are quality, and he has provided alot of spark for us this season.

Definitely a smokey for the brownlow this year, especially with how he's finished off the season. No doubt he's relishing being unleashed in the middle, I think he's finally found the balance between the forward/midfield role.

He's a true barometer for how the swans are going. Looking at his stats for the season, he's averaging 99.3 (fantasy score or whatever it is). When he scores above that average, we win, when he scores below, we lose. The only exceptions were round 10 vs North & round 12 vs Richmond where he scored sub-100 and we still won, and round 20 vs Essendon where he scored 139 but missed the kick on the siren to win it.

Everyone expects alot from Goodes, because he's such an amazing player, and this year, he's pretty much been able to meet those high expectations.

Bottom line, he's a true champion of the game, he's a huge player for us, and I just wanted to show my appreciation.

For him to be still as athletic and quick as ever at 31 is incredible. That he's playing possibly the best footy of his already glittering HoF career at age 31 is even more incredible.

We've all said it before, but it bears repeating. Once in a lifetime player. Probably once in more than one lifetime player really. Will be sat snugly beside Bob Skilton as greatest Swan ever when his career comes to an end.

**** I hope he wins his third Brownlow medal at the expense of Chris Judd. Would be almost as sweet as a Swans premiership!

Agree with that 01, and it would also justify my belief that Goodes is the better player. Judd is brilliant, obviously, but Goodes at his best can do anything and is unmatched imo.

It'd be the next best thing if we can't get a flag.

There is no disputing that Judd is a great player, but he is just such a smug bastard that I really hope he doesn't his third Brownlow. I would love for Goodes to be the deserved recipient of his third. Unfortunately, I think Pendlebury will more than likely win it and who I will be putting my money on.

yeah, I'd love to see Goodes win a third brownlow. Last year people were saying he was undeserving of being a dual brownlow medalist. I don't think many people would question his worthiness if he won a third at this point, especially if it's at Judd's expense.

On a side note, Goodes' performance against Brisbane should just about lock in the Marngrook player of the year award, so at least he'll receive some acknowledgement for the amazing year he's had.

It's funny, cause you hear those calls all the time. But 12 months is a long time in footy when you're 30+, let alone 4-5 years. It's definitely possible, but he'd need alot to go right injury wise.

There are 2 main things working in his favour.

a) even if he's struggling with injury towards the end of his career and he loses his explosive pace, we can park him in the forward line and he can still be a dangerous weapon. He's got good hands, great skills and he's an intelligent footballer.
b) the swans are improving as a team and expect to be finalists/flag contenders for the next 5+ years, if all goes well for us, he'd have more of a chance retaining his spot than if we were rebuilding.

The flip side is, I think a player of Goodes calibre would want to go out on his own terms. He seems like too-proud-a-player to risk going on a year too long.

Goodes is an absolute champion. I've never doubted that - people will recall me criticising his captaincy, but never his ability - and I hope he plays on for as long as he can. However, the end can come quickly for players, so let's not forget that. As he gets older he could become more susceptible to injury, who knows, but let's hope not!!

Was going to make this thread when I got home from work, damn you!

Far and away my favourite Swan. I just love the guy. Really inspires me with all his community work and love of the club.

I started watching every Swans game in 2004 so I'll always regret being around to see him win the 2003 Brownlow, even though I watched 7-8 games that year.

I got a few favourite memories of him that are pretty wierd, but here they are.

- When he broke down after the defeat to West Coast in the 06 GF. Really touched my heart. It almost seems sometimes like hes greater than Sydney, a pretty irelevant club in the world of football. And it was just nice to see so much love and sadness.
- Offering to shake players hands on a number of occasions.
- Massive hit he did on Cameron Ling a few years back when Ling was trying to protect the ball as it dribbled over the boundry. Loved it.
- An extremely important fend off he did on Daniel Kerr, I think in 2009 in that game where Jude kicked that really late goal from the freekick to win it. Fended off Kerr with such strength and put him on his back and went on to make a goal assist.
- The vintage Adam Goodes goal he kicked in the 2005 Grand final.
- Every single checkside goal hes ever kicked!
- His enthusasim in helping teammates up from the ground and encouraging passes made to him on the lead, even when they dont work out.

Hopefully there are more. Id love to see him play 350. He's one of the fittest men in the AFL. His body does not look to be deteriorating and he could easily remain in the Swans team as a forward even as his form drops slightly over time. He'll probably want to leave on a high though, but Id love to see him become the most capped indigenous player ever.

I have just had a quick look over his games for the year and estimated what games he is likely to poll in. Feel free to disagree.

Games where he is likely to poll 2/3 votes:

Round 2 v Essendon
Round 3 v West Coast
Round 11 v Brisbane
Round 15 v Adelaide
Round 16 v Gold Coast
Round 18 v Western Bulldogs
Round 20 v Essendon
Round 23 v Geelong
Round 24 v Brisbane

Games where he is a good chance of polling minor votes:

Round 7 v Western Bulldogs
Round 8 v Port Adelaide
Round 14 v Collingwood
Round 22 v St Kilda

Agree? Disagree? Think he will win with that?

I hope the change in coaching staff means he wins our best and fairest as he should. The lack of respect he has had in the past from this club has been disgusting. For proof, see 2008 where he was 3 votes off winning the Brownlow Medal and wasn't even deemed in the bloody top 10 at Sydney.

Goodes is a superstar of the game and I was glad to see him finally be given full captaincy honours when McVeigh was missing. He gets much less respect from the Swans than from the rest of the league, where he was named International Rules captain as well as Indigenous All Stars captain, which I think is a much fairer reflection of his standing.

And if this post sounds familiar its because I wrote almost exactly the same thing at the start of the season.

The issue is Judd is on track to get 30+ votes. All depends on how the umpires rate Murphy's season and if he can turn a lot of Judd's 3 vote games into 2 vote games.

I just saw Judds sling tackle, going by the charges all year if he doesnt get at least a week for it the AFLs MRP will lose the rest of what very little credibility it has.

I hope the Saints produce a damning medical certificate

A star. A graceful thoroughbred amongst draughthorses. An athlete, a team player and a leader. And a great bloke! We won't see his like again for many a long year!
Vale Adam Goodes!
Go the Bloods!

Has Chudd had a better season this year? He was way out in front at the end of last seasons Brownlow count, Goodesy probably won't be able to catch him, 30+ likely votes is massive, nearly half BOGs for Blues 22 games this season, all depends how the umpires voted, Murphy and Gibbs will take a few...

Judd has been better but as has been said, it's whether the umpires judge him harshly after last year and if Murphy and co take votes off him.

If Goodes is within 6-8 votes of Judd with 4 games left, it's Charlie no.3 for Goodes imo. Also depends how guys like Pendlebury poll.
