Rumor has it that St Kilda is to merge with another Vic club and move to Tasmania in 2007.

Jeff Kennett has denied that Hawthorn want to share Launceston with St Kilda, but Hobart is an option for further Hawk privatisation.

Panthers, I originally didn't respond to this tripe.

Do you really think the most successful Victorian club ATM and one which is highly profitable would be the first choice for relocation / merger?

There are several clubs currently receiving a huge amount of money just to keep them afloat. I think the Western Bulldogs are safe because they fill a geographical niche that may be filled by opposition codes if vacated. Other than them, the monetary drains on the AFL will be the next logical choices. The Kangaroos, Melbourne and even Richmond and Carlton would be way ahead of us on any list. Hawthorn may also be ahead of us too, but again they fill a geographical niche that the AFL don't want to vacate.

The Saints are as safe as can be, but there has never been an absolute guarantee that any team is safe.

The way to ensure our permanence is PREMIERSHIPS, memberships and profit.

I highly doubt Richmond and Carlton would be ahead of st kilda...Richmond and Carlton have massive supporter bases and great histories which would prevent any relocation.... The only reason why st kilda are economically stable is due to the clubs success (with no premiership! :) :D  )in the past few years.
If you look at st kilda's membership base between 1999-2003 you would see that its extremely low, in fact jokingly low!... funds for st kilda have also come recently through sponsorship as the club has been winning games the past few years, but once they go back down, down will go sponsorships (as happens to any team winning games) St Kilda also has a extremely poor history, I think that may come into consideration when choosing between say Melbourne (12 flags) to St Kilda (1 flag)
Even though i completely support 10 Victorian teams i feel 1 or 2 will relocate or merge in future years - Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond have too big supporter bases and Glorious histories ( Essendon and Carlton 16 – Collingwood 14 – Richmond 10) , Geelong is safe because of their location , Hawthorn are financially stable...so i think the Kangaroo’s, Western Bulldogs, st kilda and Melbourne may have a unfortunate future...
StKildonan, i agree with you about the bulldogs, however, i feel their is a possibility of a merger between the bulldogs and the kangaroo’s as they will be the western suburbs team... therefore i think st kilda or Melbourne may relocate to either Tasmania or the Gold Coast…think about it, the AFL runs the competition like a business, they want to maximise profits, sadly I think st kilda’s future here in Melbourne is black, maybe not now, but 5 years plus down the track.

This thread is crap. Why even reply to rubbish like that?

As a Bulldogs fan I see what you guys have done as a benchmark off field now.

Premierships have nothing to do with anything. Did Fitzroy's 8 premierships save them? What a ridiculous argument. I suppose people like yourself can't understand how a club with our lack of success can have so many supporters. Don't worry, you've got plenty of years to think about it.

I would like to think that we could retain 10 Victorian clubs and the struggling teams are at least given financial assistance these days. There are clubs like Richmond and Carlton, traditional powerhouses, who would love to be in the situation we are currently in.

With 18,000 thousand members already we are set to record our third consecutive 30,000+ membership figure, we will more than likely record another $1 million profit and we'll continue to have people like yourself say our future is black (or perhaps bleak).

Time to get your head out of the history books and look at things as they sit now. This is the 21st century. The same four or five teams are not always going to be the powers of Victorian football. Get used to it.

yeah thats why they are spending millions doing up all the moorabin facilities!!

Carlton, Richmond, North will go before stkilda.

I don't think it's a matter of teams dying before us. There's enough room for 10 Victorian teams.

I just don't understand why Sound seems to think we are in danger. Somehow I don't think the amount of premierships won by a club will mean much to the accountants when the administrators are brought in to a bankrupt team.

Sound is a poster who reregistered using a new name to hide his identity.

Notice in his post that every club mentioned is typed correctly i.e. first letter is a capital, whist he ALWAYS typed St Kilda all lower case.

Whoever he or she is, there is a definite anti-St Kilda bias there, without even considering the tripe written.
