Oh for the days when Ansett and TAA / Australian used to have first class on domestic flights. Metal cutlery and linen napkins. I used to have a "souvenired" Ansett spoon but my wife would usually throw out those items that somehow got lifted from airlines as she has higher ethical standards than I do.

I especially liked that Ansett spoon for stirring coffee but sadly, it when to cutlery heaven with all of its brothers and sisters. The TAA ones were not as good though so I didn't care abut those.
Domestic Business class still lets you use metal cutlery, and glasses. But the cutlery is that same weird pressed crap from the lounge.
International business you get proper stuff, but not the old branded stuff.

I got a thai airways spoon in the collection somewhere, turns up occasionally as it works its wey through general population. Wife hasn't thrown it out.

My company cracked the sh!ts on business class domestic flights many years ago for all but directors and some "special" others but one of the admins must have missed the memo and booked me business class to Sydney. She obviously got hauled for it so she called me up and asked me to request a downgrade for the flight home, and to ensure I got a refund. Being a decent human I did so when I got to Sydney airport to come home - I suspect nobody had ever asked to be downgraded as Qantas didn't seem to know what to do. Anyway, in the end they managed it but when I got to the gate the plane was almost full and the staff still seemed to think I was holding a business class ticket.

They had filled business class however, and anyways, I expected to be in cattle class. They apologized profusely and escorted me to my seat, but an old lady was sitting there. They tried to move her but she refused and by now the flight was due to leave.

Being a decent human I just said I'd take her seat and eventually the crew agreed as the lady wouldn't budge - I think one of the crew had reached for the pepper spray by that stage.

Anyway, we got into the air. The captain made a special apology to me over the PA and the crew all came by to say hello and sorry.

I was served business class food and drinks and when we landed everyone had to stay seated until I was first out of the plane, with a special farewell greeting from the captain.

Naturally, I slipped the Ray Bans on and acted rock star for five minutes.

_-----------

One of my guys had a pretty unique skill set and he'd travelled interstate weekly for a few years. This was above board but clearly, none of the top brass were aware until Qantas wrote to the CFO asking for approval to fly him to a gala event in Sydney as he was one of the top corporate flyers in Australia. They also wanted to do an article featuring him.

We'll, the shit hit the fan. He was banned from flying except with special approval and I copped some stick as well.

Trouble was, his girlfriend at the time lived in a different city so he had to break out the frequent flyer points to continue the relationship. Being one of the top customers they always seemed to find a seat for him, where I and most others can almost never get the flights we want using points.

Anyway, we both have the company the big A soon after. The fun had evaporated.

Gasometer - were you unhappy with Telstra?

Thinking of getting the hardware discount, paying the residential plan till late in the month then changing to traveler plan for the last few days then parking it. Which literallyeans you get a caravan setup for about 360 bucks taking into account a 1 month sub.

The traveller account can be parked and reactivated instantly in month installments via the web interface.

I was thinking of @tting you - glad you are onto it.

They seem to indicate that this can be used as a traveller (I might be wrong) and that the account can now be parked on a pro-rata basis which might be an advantage.

I understand that it's M*sk and now T*lstra are in bed with him but what the hell. If it's a good deal then why not. I had a friend who worked out how he could make phone calls back in the day which cost Optus more than the price they were allowed to charge. He got a buzz out of causing them to lose 9 cents every time he rang somebody.

There is simply nothing to compare it to when you go bush. You can modify the cable as well to inject the 40v for the dish via a dc to dc converter as well. Making it far more efficient than using a 240v inverter.

I saw some cheapie 12v DC to 240v AC inverters in Bunnings on a discount shelf the other day - not sure of the original price but they were being cleared at $15. Not the same thing you're talking about but even if they are pretty low powered, that was a steal.

Didn't buy any though.

I’m currently using Starlink in a van. Bought at cheap residential price and moved to roaming. Elon pro rata’d me at some stage and the month cycle was on the same date so I made a billionaire richer. Anyway, back to the grumpiness … I still haven’t seen North win using it.
