Hi there, tried searching with the search function but it wasn't working so apologies if this topic has been bought up before.

With Essendon doing well, and loaded with talls, and talk of Gumby maybe coming home, Freo look like a logical destination (we are set with tall forwards), what would you give up for him? would you want him?

Could help fill the hole at CHF that's looming in the coming years.

The guy has talent but is injury prone.

PSD only for mine or at best a last round draft pick.

He is too much of a risk.

This would suck, I love Gumby :(

Unfortunately he just can not break into the side at the moment, we have talls coming out the you-know-what.

If he did leave, I 'd wish him all the best.

But you are right, he'd come at a cost. Nothing ridiculous mind you, but with the entry of GWS it would improve Essendon's bargaining position.

Wouldn't be prepared to pay anything substantial, all he'd really do is occupy our injuries list and constantly be used to elevate rookies. We're not a team looking for KPF's as we don't really utilise them like most and what we have in them is sufficient at the moment. If he wants to come home it'd be similar to a Jon Griffin deal.

It's a difficult one - injury prone key forward who was taken number two in a very strong draft, and if wasn't injury prone, would probably be holding down their CHF position. If he comes good, his value is probably a first rounder (top 10 pick) + more, but that's a big if, given injury concerns.

I can't see Essendon parting with him easily. Yes, they have a few quality talls around at the moment, but Hurley went back on the weekend with Fletcher out, and Hille is also getting on a bit (but probably has more than a few years left). There's no guarantee their talls are as secure as they'd like.

Having said that Schammer and a later pick would be worth a view

I like the idea of Gumby although he does not seem to have the fwd pressure that our structure relies on.

We would not pay over the odd's. Scaham plus 3rd rounder? Whilst he was a high pick, he has subsequently shown little thru injury so it would definately be buyer beware. Note he already has had back sugery!

GWS - whilst Sheeds might want him, they can not afford to have a key draft signing sitting out every other week. We might be able to cover it whilst he sorts his body out.

Of course it would, because Essendon would have no interest in that. Maybe the pick on its own would be more appealing.

Monitor how his body holds up over the rest of the year. He could be worth something, but he has missed so much development that even if we got him right, we'd be lucky to get a couple of years from him at his best. Unfortunate, because the guy could have been a superstar if his body allowed it.

He hasn't shown enough at afl level to be worth much. It's still all about potential with Gumby. Wouldn't mind him as a rookie.

Anyone who thinks we would not be interested in a KPF is kidding themselves.

1st, check his contract status.

2nd get a medical prognosis from our medicos.

3rd check the price.

If the price was right and the prognosis from our medicos is good, pull the trigger.

The possible recruits over the next 2 seasons include;

CHF; Gumbleton
Midfield; Jaeger

Ruck; Moeller
Forward; Head

Head won't be a serious contender for a few years, and Gumby if he does get a good prognosis will. Use our other picks for KPB's, and keep upgrading on skills, pace and aggression.

As far as Bombers wanting something for him, at this stage he has achieved less than Bradley did, were both high draft picks, and they don't seem to have a vacancy for his position. And as another poster stated, GWS are unlikely to go crazy and recruit injury prone key signings. If they think their window is opening then it won't be picks they will be looking for, but it won't be best 22 that we would be looking to give up.

If:

- he survives the season injury free
- has a season in the VFL like Bradley did prior to coming to us
- wants to come home
- has no degenerative medical condition we don't know about
- doesn't become a bomber's regular by seasons end
- Mitch Clark isn't still on the agenda

Then we would be stupid not to get him at the right price (PSD, 4th/5th round pick or spud player).

Few 'ifs' to negotiate between now and the end of the year.

forget about his injuries, is he really any good.
I heard all the hype.

But from the games ive seen he has hard hands.
Always drops marks.
No good having a key forward with bad hands.

What i seen of him in u18 his hands are very good and he was a very good mover around the ground.
His mobility from the back injuries i would assume has dwindled greatly though.

Has some Rhys Palmer-itis i reckon, really struggled mentally coming back from injuries.

With all due respect, most here are dreaming

He would cost a 1st round pick. A 2nd pick would be a bargain

I'd love to get Gumby. Still have confidence that he will become a quality forward. Would definitely trade a 3rd rd draft pick without thinking. Probably even a 2nd rd draft pick as it will be around pick 35-40.
