Good to see you not wasting your time watching teams you don't care about.

There's a lot of Hawks fans. But definitely not more than 50%. Patches where the Hawks looks bigger, but pretty much the entire western side looks majority Giants.
There were plenty of Hawks fans (but what do you expect?). The Bears and early Lions used to get outnumbered all the time by the bigger Vic clubs. But that never happens now (even against Collingwood). The Giants fan base is building and it is overwhelmingly young.

How about this for a reply:

Bullshit. stop wasting your and everyone else's time.
The more you protest about GWS the more people assume GWS must be doing something right.
The more you post stupid emojis the more people assume GWS must be doing something right.

Ok mr 7000 posts enjoy living in your basement.

No wonder afl has a bad culture with lgbt and racism issues with bigots like yourself

Lol I knew you'd be on here all dirtied up about the giants getting over 20k, pretty loud fans too, shame they didn't get over the line. Definitely more orange than hawks fans despite your rubbish.

I honestly don't understand why anyone obsesses over these things.

It's good for football in Sydney. Couldn't care less who goes for who, as long as the footy interest is growing that's the main thing 👍

Don´t worry, we we know you don´t.

You and your boyfriend must be angry today seeing this crowd. Probably preparing for the ideal opportunity to tell us how this crowd number is fudged and/or all the tickets were all freebies.

Don't let them tell you anyone was there. It's all false.

Giants v Hawks unlikely to sell out. Around 500 currently on sale. Every time it looks close to exhausting tickets, they release more. Should still be a good crowd to get 20k but disappointing that it won’t be a full house.
Firstly, lets be happy about the Hawks win!! Secondly, seriously the crowd wasn't bad. So 1500 more would have made "full house".....and most of them would have to be standing.

I’m a big believer in GWS no longer playing in Canberra and bringing all their games back to Sydney.

GWS don’t get to play at Showgrounds Stadium for a month due to the Easter Show.

I’ve previously suggested GWS should look for a new ground to play their entire season at.

But that would cost a lot of money, to build a new oval stadium with over 25,000 capacity.

So I’ve been thinking, what does the Sydney Easter Show use the Showgrounds Stadium for? I’ve never been, so I don’t know. But I presume it is similar to the Perth Royal Show at Claremont Showgrounds. Horse riding, fireworks…

Does the Easter Show really need a 25,000 capacity oval stadium? Could they be served with a smaller capacity?

Could it be possible, for the Showgrounds Stadium to be cut out from the Easter Show venue and allow it to be used by GWS. Host AFL games and entice Easter Show patrons to buy a ticket and watch some footy?

In compensation, construct a new Amphitheater with 7,000 seats on the grass patch north of Kevin Coombs Avenue which gets incorporated into the Easter Show venue? This would be a much cheaper way to allow GWS to return to their home for the entire season.

It would also just be a nice way to incorporate some green space with trees into the Easter Show venue.

I presume it’s like the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane where they run cattle prizes and fire work displays during the show? The main grandstand on the broadcast side, fwiw, is the Sydney Royal stand.

Melbourne Showgrounds got rid of their arena years ago. You can parade the winning cows on that bit of grass (Cathy Freeman Park) between Showgrounds and ACCOR surely.

You responded quick, and beat me to my edits to clarify some things.

GWS don’t get to play at Showgrounds Stadium for a month due to the Easter Show.

The showground's arena is used less and less these days.
Since the Sydney showground is in fact a stadium it must be relatively easy to isolate the arena.
There must be convenient times to play AFL during the Easter Show
and in fact it opens up possibilities for mutual benefit.

Good Friday is now the biggest fixture on the NRL calendar because it runs side by side with the Easter Show. Could the Giants and AFL do something with Engie on Easter Monday — that way they could have an early game that runs into the Haw v Geel Easter Monday game at the MCG

The cows and horses are using Engie at Easter, so, no.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the show, just that it is Easter and people are not working. Look at Easter Monday Hawks v Cats. So, an Easter game at SCG GWS v Pies would draw 30k.

The cows and horses are using Engie at Easter,

and could easily moved somewhere else, especially somewhere closer to attendees.

So, an Easter game at SCG GWS v Pies would draw 30k.

I would imagine that would be true of anytime not just Easter.
There is great potential for the showgrounds and GWS to work out a mutually beneficial event.

Looking into this concept a bit further, the Easter Show is actually visible on GoogleMaps. Great timing for the aerial capture.

Anyway, perhaps instead of building the amphitheatre on Kronos Hill (to the north), it could be built in the Brickpit Park (to the east), which is already an amphitheatre shape due to the quarry. Be a great reason to rehabilitate a portion of the site.

Access to Showgrounds Stadium could be via Cathy Freeman Park when the Easter Show is on, and a new enclosed pedestrian bridge (orange arrow) could be built to ensure quick access from the east and west sides of the Easter Show over the access to Showgrounds Stadium (keeping both ticketed patrons segregated).

The new pedestrian bridge would also be beneficial when the Homebush V8 Street Circuit is on. It could maintain public access over the circuit to Olympic Stadium, the Superdrome and Showgrounds Stadium, if the circuit and pit lane were re-positioned from the blue alignment to the purple alignment.

Essentially, the point is, there could be a way to get GWS to play the full season at Showgrounds Stadium, if the club and the Royal Agricultural Society could come to an agreement to not use the Showgrounds Stadium.

How about this for a reply: the stadium wasn’t full and hawks fans outnumbered giants fans in their own home. Embarrassing. Is there another professional club in the country that gets outnumbered in their own home final?
Lol you moron the stadium and media always under-reports giants crowds. I have heard this from good friends in the industry.

There were actually about 26500 there when you count for the standing room and corporates

And the camera always tries to show opposition fans in sydney

Does anyone actually know what any of their strategies actually are in terms of identity and base?

Across commentators in game on Fox, 7, and the radio to articles, panel shows, and podcasts, I heard the initials ‘GWS’ used about 17 times - they’re almost always being referred to as ‘Giants’ and it doesn’t seem coincidental.

Throw in their obvious openness to playing at the SCG - home derbies, the away side to Richmond, finals - what actually is their customer base and what are they representing?

The stadium looks shit on TV and everyone I talk to finds them hard to watch and a bit unlikeable because of it. There’s a genuine family and almost country, suburban weekend feel to Gold Coast home games. You watch a GWS one and I have no idea who this team is supposed to be for? It seems almost all their fans are single 35-plus year old single males, a bit like the A-Leagues odd supporter pool.
