Seems they want some mature aged players, maybe package Porps/Reilly to get it.

Or perhaps Lyons/Riley combination?

Given our previous trades with them to secure Crouch and Brown I would hope we have at least started asking the questions to get this pick.

We won't get even close to the price that it would cost us to get pick #1. Not even worth discussing. Porps who has had a terrible season and Reilly to teach the kids some of his bad habits? Packaged they are worth a second rounder and maybe a 3rd if we are lucky. Lyons Riley? two players who can't make our best 22 when GWS had 20+ first round picks, never going to happen worth less than Reilly/Porps on the trade table.

Our previous trade the get Crouch and Brown involved us effectively giving them Davis and Pick 10 for Crouch and Brown. That was only considered because GWS were not able to put those players onto their list (O'Meara, Crouch) and no other team offered them any better than that.

Multiple spuds will never equal pick 1 no matter which way you look at it or how much you dream.

These are the players that I think could get us pick 1 (singularly):

Dangerfield
Walker
Crouch
Last year's Jacobs

I just can't see the next tier doing it, i.e. Sloane, Talia etc. and we wouldn't want to trade them anyway.

Forget it. It's unobtainable.

We should be targetting early second round picks. GWS, Melbourne and WB all need experienced players.

Otten is probably the one who fits the bill to be used as trade bait. I like him but he's out of contract and hasn't ever cemented his spot. With Shaw, Hartigan and Siggins on the list, I think we can afford to lose him. He'd be worth a pick in the mid 20's IMO.

We also need to sign up Kerridge ASAP before he gets poached.

Pick 1 is completely out of the question for us. The only 3 players that could get this deal done is Dangerfield, Crouch and Walker... But GWS wouldn't go after Walker with already Patton, Cameron and perhaps Franklin in the side. They wouldn't go after Crouch because of the talent in the midfield already, And Dangerfield we wouldn't give up for pick 1, Danger is in the prime of his career and will only be getting better and better, while if we trade for pick 1 it may take 4-5 years for the bloke to make it to AFL standard.

If the number 1 pick is going to be used on Boyd i see a team like the Bulldogs, Saints or even Geelong offering up better picks and players then what we currently would

#1 is out of reach, but could we get their first round compo pick somehow? #13 I think it will be.

If Otten is worth mid 20's (as suggested by jackster) is it that big a jump to pay #13, if they need experienced bodies (especially down back).

Worth asking the question to them.

GWS will not be able to secure a Danger quality player from any club, no one will give up their stars for pick 1. GWS are in desperate need for experience, 1 star player is great but not enough to fill their holes. I think a trio of good players could get it done. Otten, Douglas and Vince. If we would even contemplate this then guys like Grigg, Lyons and Kerridge need to play out the year so they can fill the void next year.

Anyway - don't we want pick two?

Talia and Sloane probably only things that'd get us close. And even then - not.

We should give them three 20c pieces and ask for $1.

No way we can land #1 straight up.

If theres a chance to be involved in any trade as a third party we should jump at it. We need every other club to know we can help them make a deal.

And if GWS etc. are looking for older bodies, we should be putting the fire sale sign out.

We should trade into round 1/2 by giving experienced players to Melb / WB / StK and use free agency to pick up the only things we really need, a classy outside mid and a pure small forward. We are not in a position to go for the #1 pick without weakening ourselves.

Gold Coast and GWS 2nd round picks should be a key target you'd think.

Shouldn't have to give up the earth to get them, would be early 2nd round and give us a shot to pick up some talent that we otherwise will have a MASSIVE hole in.

Get a couple of 2nd round picks, and package that with players and who knows, we might be able to land someone's first round pick.

Exactly. The worth of the pick is only what is being offered.

No club will give up an elite talent for this pick, unless they want to go there. So it comes down to us offering a second tier player that is better than another clubs second tier player.

Of course we could offer em Thommo? He would fit their bill nicely.

We need to do multiple trades, each which progressively improves our position from the last. Kind of like that guy that started out trading a paper clip and ended up with a house.

Dylan Orval can be our paperclip. 430 trades later, we should see James Aish in the tri-colours. Piece of piss.

Get pick one, then offer it to Carlton for gibbs and their first round pick ;)
Tell them its either this year or next we take him, at least this year they'd get a good replacement at #1 (Boyd)

We could hold a gun to their heads? That's about the only way.

Could work if everyone else is only offering 57 cents......

Or they could just keep their dollar.

They've shown no interest to just give away picks for experienced players so far. Why would they now?

I would think Kreuzer or Dane Swan would be likeliest.

I think trading for their later picks is something we should look at, as they won't be using them. They'd probably just give them away.

The Age speculated yesterday it'd be at pick 11 and would be a little bit overs for Otten. Might be more likely to get their 2nd round pick at 20 or 21 and try and squeeze in an NT zone selection player. NT have a small forward similar to Neade and an attacking half back flanker we could have a look at in the trade.

I can see Collingwood getting that pick. Buckley wants to break up the rat pack and inject some new blood. Expect Swan to be right in the mix, with maybe a Ben Reid chucked in as the tall defender GWS need. They'll likely be able to work in the Thomas free agency situation too.

The Pies hold all the cards on this one.
