That's why the team is in Sydney and not Tasmania. The AFL wants to grow the game in a market where AFL is not the number 1 sport to get more money in the long run into the AFL.

Kaiserchief, the sort of thinking that says we can ignore football areas and concentrate on non-football areas meant that we didn't put a team in Canberra and now its pretty much a rugby town.

It's not a stupid idea, but it's a rushed one.

The GWS experiment is a long term project which will incur short-term pain.

The AFL rushed this franchise, probably more than any other club in it's 116 year life.

While they've still got another year to sign out of contract players, GWS didn't sign enough 24-27 year olds to make them competitive in their first year.

They've basically either got 18/19 year olds or 33/34 year olds, not enough players in the middle.

I doubt they'll win a game this year, and the clubs recruiting (Trade week/out of contract signings) are to be blamed for that if that's the case, not the AFL.
