Some advice to any future potential cricketers on the forum:

The best way to counter-attack in that scenario is not to dance down the pitch like a goddamn moron and open yourself up, it really ****ing isn't. No, the best way to counter attack in a situation like that is to try to turn the good balls into singles, look positive even in defence, turn ones into twos, so as to keep the strike rotating and when the bowlers do produce the rare bad ball, you make sure it goes to the fence. That's how you counter-attack when you're 5-15.

Natural game my aching ****ing arse.

This exactly. If we were 5-400 odd, fine, come out and attempt to put the foot down. There's counter-attacking, then there's just being too dumb to assess the situation properly. 5-15 shouldn't be too hard to analyse, really.

120 more reasons from Wade today as to why he's ripe for the picking. :thumbsu:
Haddin has been good for us, but is that enough of a reason to keep him in the side, when there's a better current option out there? Are we all about picking the best available team, or is it about rewarding those in the side for their past achievements, as though the money we've paid them and the fame they've received isn't enough?

You can see the problem when you read Haddin's comments. He said himself "scoring runs is the bottom line".

No it's not - it's wicketkeeping first and foremost you egotistical clown. Batting is a nice bonus, and you can't even do that anymore.

This is not a new phenomenon. Ever since Derryk Murray in the 1980s cricket teams the world over (like the sheep they are) have become obsessed with picking wicketkeepers on how well they bat. Gilchrist comes along so it gets further reinforced.

Personally, I'd take the best wicketkeeper every time, and if they only average 25 so be it. I'd rather that than regulation catches or stumpings getting missed. Won't happen though.

On form and merit, plus youth, Wade comes in immediately. However, Haddin is clearly Clarke's mate, and is not going anywhere.

I think he just confused his natural game in a T20 hit and giggle with his natural game for a test match.

I don't think he's confused them. Haddin only has one natural game, and it carries over no matter what format of cricket he's playing.

Even Healy has now started moaning about Haddin's keeping. Took him long enough to point out that Haddin's footwork is ****.

Haha....Haddin deserves all the criticism. Focus on ur keeping Haddin and then ur batting. I like him butbeen a bit unsurewith him lately.

Dont think he will go anywhere til the end of the Aussie summer

Moaning? I'd saying Healy has given Haddin a right old spanking;

Ian Healy said:
"His footwork, sharpness and crispness are nowhere near what an Australia wicketkeeper's should be and that really surprised me. I was disappointed to see his form in Sri Lanka when he had [former wicketkeepers] Steve Rixon and Tim Nielsen both over there. His form looked very lethargic, and that happens because of one of two things: you're nervous or you're lazy. Only those closest to the arena would know which one it is."

Whatever you want to call it, it's about time. I could never really understand how Healy could sit there like a stooge on the commentary team and praise Haddin as he has done for aeons. Having been an excellent keeper himself, he must have felt obliged to keep up the 'aren't all Aussies brilliant at everything' line to have done it.

How many times did he drop or fumble relatively simple and straightforward balls last night? At one stage it was twice in two overs and he'd spilled another one a few overs earlier than that. Are they waiting till he starts dropping balls that have been edged before they send him back to SS?

Clarke enjoys having a joke with him at first slip, it's very important.

Anyone notice Clarke pissing himself laughing when SAF were 3/220?

Wanted to reach through the TV and Katich him.

Why should Ricky Ponting of all people be carried? Is he going to turn into a match-winner that can play 10 years for us?
Because he carried us for years.

Unless there is clearly a better option, I think we can afford to give Ponting a bit more time.

Haddin / Johnson / Siddle go tomorrow.

Hussey / Ponting are both told that they have this Summer, anything after that comes purely down to weight of runs.

Marsh isn't the answer. Keep Khawaja there.

Watson either needs to move down the order, or only bowl 8-10 overs an innings. Even then, the reality is, we might need to forget the idea of Robot the All-Rounder and play him purely as a batsman.

That's pretty damning from Heals...

If Haddin batted the way he did last night in every match this thread wouldn't exist. He showed that he is able to play a responsible innings while still attacking. He doesn't need to charge down the pitch at the bowlers.

I have been calling for his head but if that is what he will produce regularly, he may have a reprieve for now.

I know you love Khawaja and fair enough because he is a good prospect, but he has not done anything that Marsh hasn't done at test level. Im my opinion, they should not be fighting for the same number 3 spot, I think we'd look a much better side with Khawaja opening rather than Hughes, his technique is perfect for it.

Half agree - but we've decided Hughes is potentially part of our future, so we need to stick with him for a while, if his form drops that heavily, drop him, but for now, he has to stay.

And maybe not at Test level, but Khawaja's domestic form, how does that match up to Marsh?

Khawaja is going to be a massive part of our future, he should be #3 for the next decade - Marsh is ~28 with constant injury concerns and has only just pulled it together, and even then, he hasn't exactly dominated the domestic side and demanded he be picked.

We might get 2-4 years out of him, provided he doesn't go through a form slump, and then we're back at square one.

It's the same thing we did with North - we need to learn from our mistakes and start looking towards the future; we aren't slotting a player in surrounded by stars (like Huss was) to continue our dominance - we need to start building a side that can compete for the #1 ranking for years to come.

Haddin has probably saved his spot for the Australian summer on the back of last night's innings. Paine is the next in line, so I don't see the selectors dropping Haddin for Wade when Haddin has done just about enough to win the test for Australia.

I don't like it, because Haddin doesn't bat like he did last night often enough to be worth persevering with (especially at his age).
