Very necessary change. Couldn't care less how many debutants there are, as long as one is a wicketkeeper.

How is it unnecessary to replace a keeper who can't keep and can't bat anymore?

Wade and Paine are both superior and waiting.

I reckon we should play both, one with the bat in an De Villiers style. Gives both the chance to impress and develop in training and in games. Can't be worse than the middle order

Thankfully Siddle has shown that he has some ability with bat and ball, unlike Haddin.

Its much like how bemused I get when they call Mitchell Johnson an all-rounder when he can so clearly do neither.

Haddin has always been like this because it the current Australian Team philosophy. 1 or 2 years ago when Paine was keeping in the Tests and he was out injured his response to are you worried about the form of Paine in the side, his reply was along the lines of no I am the number 1 keeper. He knows he is not going to get dropped. I will say it a million times, its this thought process over the last 5 years by him and others with in the Baggy Green ranks which is why we are about to get destroyed by India and England won the ashes 12 months ago.

The standards aren't high for batting in this team at present,just look at the year's averages for at least three of the top 6. There's no real reason for him to say or think any different in all honesty.

2011 Averages as it stands now.

Marsh - 56.80
Punter - 27.70
Haddin - 22.07
Hughes - 28.85
Watson - 24.09
Khawaja - 30.00

Hussey and Clarke are both averaging in the mid 40's.

Given that it's a mass problem, you can see why Haddin is not worried. He's the keeper and he is not doing much worse than half the top 6 who don't even have another skill to recommend them.

Based on that who the hell do you drop? They can all have justifications for being kept, mainly based on how bad everyone else is and 'oh, but he just got a 50'.

Such are the standards at present.

you must have missed the 2nd test in south africa. That's a shame. Was epic.

He also got 80ish the test just gone at the gabba. Not sure if Sidds troubled the scorers on that occasion
 
Great revelations, guys.

We've established that sometimes players don't play well, but other times they do.

Siddle and Haddin are both lucky, with Haddin hitting two half centuries recently and Sids looking as cranky as ever against minnows NZ. The Indians will help us see if they've actually improved at all.
 
Haddin is incapable of batting to the situation, threw the bat around in both SA tests, the second innings of the second test was as streaky an innings as you'd ever see and the first test effort should have seen him sent home in disgrace, and he strolled out at Bellerive seemingly oblivious to the carnage that had gone before him and batted like he was still at the Gabba. Sometimes it works, but having half a brain would help.

I don't particularly rate Siddle, but if Haddin batted with even half of the guts, determination and, more importantly, sense of responsibility that he did, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Brownlow - that's a genuine worry of mine; is Siddle finally getting it together, or is it more to do with NZ and some favorable conditions?

I'm worried the Indians will torch him.
 
Those stats for our batsmen this year are abysmal. How can anyone justify keeping these guys in the team? I am sick of all these "career saving" 50's. That is the logic around here though sadly.
 
Because it's a massive boys club and always has been. The problem is that in he past we had enough quality depth that it didn't matter and we could carry players. Now we can't, but there is still the same mentality.
 
Definitely has to go now.

We have pretty decent depth in the Keeper/Batsman department (well, compared to top order batsmen and any type of bowlers.)

Nevill, Wade, either will do.

Nevill strikes me as (and NSW viewers please confirm/deny) a nuggety type of batsman rather than a Haddin-style stroke-maker, which is probably more to our needs.
 
In fairness, Haddin was simply playing his natural game today.
