Really liked his game yesterday. Worked hard around the ground, took a couple of cracking marks and laid some cruncing (and important) tackles.

Seemed to have more desperation and stood up in what was one of the worst games I have seen Hamish play.

Hale is quality and will definitely come good.

I hope he does play well, then there will be more value for him at the trade table years end.

Thats harsh I know, but we are just so used to mediocre to poor displays from Haley now that we get pumped up when he turns out something half respectable. He is 23 now, how much better is he going to get really? I say strike while the irons hot and while he is "potentially" anything (like Leigh Brown was when we recruited him).

There seems to be this pattern of thought that we need to keep playing him because we have put so much time into him. I agree he was OK yesterday, but he is now miles behind Hamish and I reckon that Moran has more to offer overall. Plus Todd Goldstein is in the wings aswell.

Be warned laidley, if Moran doesnt start getting a game there is plenty of clubs who would take him in a heartbeat and play him, something that we should be doing now.

Moran has been pretty average in the vfl this year. hale is a much better option at this stage.

Be warned westernRoo, only 20% of players that get drafted only make it to 100 games and by 26 are washed up/ out of the system completely. :)

I did notice Hale's pressure and tackling yesterday - a pleasant surprise.

McInotsh was very quiet, but was due for a down week. Great to see his ability to mark strong and kick true late in the game regardless of his quiet performance.

Even more reason we should trade him for someone better Woody.

I think Hale would be ok elsewhere, just not what people think he will be.

Way overated.

I too liked his game yesterday. Hope he has turned the corner. He's a better player than he's been showing lately.

How much better is he going to get? A lot better. 202cm, great below his knees, beautiful kick - if he keeps working as hard as he did yesterday he will be one of our best players.

We can play Hale, Moran and McIntosh in the one team. None of them are traditonal slow lumbering ruckman wh can't use the footy.

FFS the bloke has been coming off an injury.

Only a moron would trade Hale unless WCE offered us a straight swap for Judd.

We know have what coaches **** over the thought of - two young high quality ruckmen.

Let's keep them.

If Moran can live up to his potential, then he'll force his way into the team and we may consider a trade.

At the moment, we keep both.

Trade talk is short sighted and just plain stupid. He's a big developing bloke coming back from an injury. Given some time he will perform more consistantly at the level expected of him.

Never a truer word spoken.

Trading blokes like Hale is frought with danger, just ask the Dee's supporters what they think of the Jolley trade.

Hale can play and did his job yesterday and he'll get better. Haley being dropped was just the kick in the pants he needed.

The upside to big Hale playing is that we can give big Hamish a rest without moving big Drew away from his position. We also don't lose anything from the ruck as big Hale is a serious ruckmen.
I was happy with big Hale's game and I was even more happy with big Drew's game.
Big Hamish is allowed to have an off day.;)

Should be traded. His output wont ever match his value at the moment and we would lose nothing as a side without him. He is expendable.

It's an iteresting one - not too sure where I stand on Hale to be honest. Yes I was also excited about his game today, but come to think of it, WesternRoo has a point - the game was only half decent, yet we're excited.

He is 23 and does have some obvious deficiencies. He still goes for contested marks as though he is contesting a boundary throw in. Marks in the forward line just isn't a strength of his.

Unfortunately I just can't see him ever being a star player we were hoping he'd become. Yes he can still improve, but he won't be a top notch ruckman and won't be a top notch forward. IMHO.

If I could get a fast running player of moderate ability like a Montagna or a Ben Johnson or a Tenace, I'd take it.

We need to retain Hale. He is a good ruckman. Ordinary key position forward but good ruckman. Ive said it weeks ago, if McIntosh is played 80% of every game in the ruck he will be a sore sight by about round 15. He needs rucking help and Hale is the man for the job. As Angus said we dont want to be ripping petrie away from key position defensive post (or attack) whenever we need to rest Hamish.

And i think most of us over inflate Moran's reputation on this board. I will go as far as saying no other club will take Moran 'in a heartbeat'.

And Im setting myself up here but if I see Goldstein as a regular senior ruckman in next 2 or 3 years I'll eat my shoe.

I'd be reluctant to see him traded - be good to have some pretty deep ruck stocks and I am worried about Hs body - would be surprised if he can take punishment all year. We need Drew in the backline too much

Johnson and Tenace?

Both are fast and cant kick.

Montagna though is a gun.

IMO we must keep Hale. I don't understand how harsh he is rated on here.

It takes time for big men to develop. Moran although promising is an unknown. He hasn't made it at this stage. Goldy is an anbsolute unknown, no matter how promising he may look at this stage.

Good ruckman are few and far between. You want two in your team and you want a third to cover for injuries and keep pressure on them.

We know Hale and Hamish can be a very good long term prospect. Don't throw that away on the belief that Moran will make it.

The other upside is Drew in the back line. IMO by far his best position, for the side and himself.

I think we can give hale another year because at 24 other clubc will still be keen to pick him up if we feel the need to trade him.
When we have thommo back and our forward line is stronger,we can put hale down there and then he might be getting the 3rd best defender. We could even put hamish down there like on sunday,he wont get pushed around so easily.
About moran he hasnt done anything and he might be the trade to be done but noone wants him, unless the ppl that give him glowing references on here are from other clubs.

One Eyed Roo ... good points. Hale is only 23 and ruckmen take their time. He hasn't had that much footy this year and he will get better with time out on the park. He has a lot of natural ability and it's a very handy ruck combination which will only get better.

I like the option of McIntosh and Hale resting in the goal square at times... it may stretch some defences. I reckon Hale will start to take a couple of contested grabs in forward 50 soon and once he does, his confidence will go through the roof. McIntosh will definitely take a few contested grabs down there. They're both pretty mobile too, as Hale showed with his roving goal.

McIntosh played pretty well, he competed hard in the air and at ground level. How about when he grabbed the ball one handed? ... he's an imposing figure. Hale just got pushed back as he jumped under the ball a bit too much ... just getting his timing right. Moran is a big talent and reminded me of Goodes the way he moved in a practice match against St Kilda. I would play him up forward instead of Leigh Brown, what's there to loose?

It is important we have 2 very good ruckmen at the club over the next 10 years, a strong McIntosh/Hale combo can give us a significant advantage. We would never get back more than what we have invested in Hale, an early first round pick plus years of development, would be utterly insane to trade him in his early 20s.
