Nothing wrong with off-label uses of substances.
A study done in the US showed of the 160 most common drugs prescribed by doctors, 21% were for off-label (unapproved) uses.

You can test for peptides although there are fewer labs with the capability. One in Cologne, Germany (which is where the AFL send samples off to), and one in Montreal. HGH can be tested for, although there is only a short time window. Plus there is no evidence out that afl players were using HGH.

For whatever was tested. If it's something they don't know to test for they can't test for it. It's not a blanket peptide test.A clean blood test doesnt mean that anybody has NOT taken drugs.
It just means they were clean at that time of the blood test.

CONCLUSIONS:
Off-label medication use is common in outpatient care, and most occurs without scientific support. Efforts should be made to scrutinize underevaluated off-label prescribing that compromises patient safety or represents wasteful medication use.
I would have thought the main issue with the AFLPA is not to let their members get into this position again. Harcourt saying what he said would have given the AFLPA ammunition to put the responsibility further onto the clubs. This is what Harcourt was saying. He was not being critical of the players. He was saying it was surprising how easily the players went along with it - meaning that that is the way it is in such a group dynamic coming up against club authority figures. So therefore processes need to be put in place with that in mind. This was also a theme in McDevitt's request for co-operation. They had decided to go easy on the players because of what Harcourt and others found.I am wondering why the AFL Players association are so outraged at the comment that Essendon players did nothing to question the supplements program. How would they know, seeing they were kept out of the loop aswell.
Not the news the bombers and their fans wanted to hear.If you are a horse perhaps
The Herald understands that lab, in Cologne, is the only WADA lab that can screen effectively for peptides - but it is as yet unable to test to an evidential level, meaning the results would likely not stand up in court.

Harcourt talked about 'Fan syndrome' due to the old 'hero' footballers being around the club. In essence he was referring to the Stockholm Syndrome where victims support their abusers. So whatever God Hird says is like a drug on the reptilian brain and people react emotionally and not logically in their self-interest. This is supported by their propaganda machine in Fox Sports and News Corp. It is a tough one to break and it is like a spell where people think there is nothing on the other side so they sustain their denial. Not the news the bombers and their fans wanted to hear.

It has been taken down as it is a "inconvenient truth" and their will be lawyers circling as usual.Anyone got a link to this presentation? It seems to have been taken down. Or is it all like the first season of Underbelly?
Thanks.
I reckon it is exactly what the bombers and their fans want to hear. It provides full support to EFC/Hird for the trial. Hird's lawyer even exploited it at today's hearing. Not the news the bombers and their fans wanted to hear.

...He (Harcourt) also stated that “the real reason” the AFL teamed up with ASADA to investigate Essendon was to give the anti-doping body “enormous power” it did not have to access information and coerce witnesses.
...
Essendon and Hird, whose lawyers could issue the Harcourt subpoena, believe his admissions in Switzerland back their claim that ASADA exceeded its powers when investigating the club’s 2102 supplements program.
AFL trying to get rid of the evidence.Anyone got a link to this presentation?
So, when it was clear that EFC couldn't run a lemonade stand, let alone a football club was revealed, the AFL were just meant to sit around and do nothing?
So reading this morning's Age, Essendon believes the AFL should 'sanction' Dr Harcourt. Meanwhile, 'Doc' Reid ...
ASADA was entitled under the Act to work with the AFL. But the diversion by Hird/News Ltd and Co makes people think that there 'might' of being something suspicious. They work the public over to think there is a conspiracy AGAINST Essendon. Classic textbook defense when you have lost all moral standing.AFL trying to get rid of the evidence.

Few corrections - peptides are not necessarily illegal. They may be against certain rules, but if they were illegal you would not be able to buy/import them which you can.
Second just because it's a peptide doesnt mean it's bad. Peptides are simply a chain of amino acids. You have peptides in milk, meat and many other common foods.

On the contrary the players actively supported the program under the "Fan Syndrome", they were swept away with the propaganda of Hird and Co and they were being led to the promised land of glory. Look at me Hird would have whispered, I am the friend of the rich and famous and loved by the peasants as well. Follow me to the promised land. They have been brainwashed and there have been lots of little punishments if you seek to stray. Hird had all sort of volunteer enforcers.****! That's a huge admission.Ifwhen this thing gets dragged through the courts... OBW!

Here is another bombshell:
The AFL Players’ Association condemned Harcourt’s assertion that there was a “broad acceptance” by Essendon players of the club’s supplements program.
“We disagree with Dr Harcourt’s suggestion that players passively accepted the use of supplements and did not ‘jack up and say what the hell is going on’,” acting AFLPA chief Ian Prendergast.
Huh?
Prendergast is telling ADADA that contrary to Harcourt's view, the players were in on the doping progam, 100%.
Boy, with friends like that....![]()
