Player Watch Harry Schoenberg - Ruptured Achilles

Despite it being 2-years I really hope he is still read the riot act by club officials at the end of the season, he’s not the type of person/player that can act all larrikin/old-school country footballer he actually needs to become a strict professional sportsman, needs to also improve his deficiencies in the off-season; his kicking mechanism is totally broken & he should actually seek out of club help to fix that and most importantly he also needs to be told that he can not have another massive off-season drinking junket holiday like he’s always done so far in his career.

I'm fine with this deal, he has shown he is capable to play at the level required. If anything he is at least good back up to our current midfield group if they get injured. And if he keeps his current SANFL form up he will be putting pressure on players in the current side to continue to perform or they will make way for him.

So many of you wrote off Jones. I still have faith that Harry will make it.

This is a bit of a different situation. Jones had never put consistent AFL-calibre performances on the park before he got going this year, whereas Schoenberg was one of our better players in 2021. He has shown he can do it, but has fallen away badly in the past 18 months.

He has been given another chance to prove he belongs. Now it's up to him to do the hard yards. No doubt he can make it as an AFL player, but does he have the want?

Two years seems right

Harry has shown some AFL traits but has not nailed his selection at AFL level

He now has 2.5 seasons to become a consistent AFL player

If he is not in our best 22 at the end of this next contract period, he will likely be gone

On a side note... will Murray, and Schoenberg be put on long term injury list, and does this give us some space?
Murray will be back late in the season so probably not.

Schoenberg will be out until 2025 though you'd think, so yes it should open up a spot.

Achilles ruptures are a "12 month injury" that frequently has miracle recoveries within 6-9 months.

Van Berlo was theoretically pushing for selection for the non-existant finals run in 2014 after a pre-season Achilles injury. Michael Marrone for Adelaide United ruptured his Achilles in the 2016 final at Adelaide Oval, he was back halfway through the following season
